Yours Truly

Explore 19th century lives through a focused reading of historic letters drawn from the archive. Participants will read copies while the originals are on view, with transcripts provided to help interpret period handwriting. The collection includes correspondence from figures such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Jacobs, William Lloyd Garrison, and members of the Beecher family, along with other progressive voices of the era. Together, the group will consider the ideas, emotions, and conversations captured in these writings and how letter writing bridged the private and public spheres. Led by Cat White, Director of Historic Collections, this monthly gathering brings remarkable voices out of the stacks and into conversation.
