Connecticut Ballet Giselle

Connecticut Ballet brings Giselle to The Bushnell to conclude its 45th season with a revival of this Romantic era landmark set to Adolphe Adam’s celebrated score. The title role is widely regarded for its intense dramatic range and emotional depth. Philadelphia Ballet principal Oksana Maslova dances Giselle, returning to a role she first performed with Connecticut Ballet in 2014. Sterling Baca, also a principal with Philadelphia Ballet, appears as Albrecht in his Connecticut Ballet debut. Maslova most recently appeared with the company as the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker. The story follows a village girl deceived by a nobleman whose betrayal leads to her death from heartbreak. She is transformed into one of the Wilis, spirits of young women who were wronged before marriage and rise from their graves to exact vengeance, placing love, remorse, and the supernatural in poignant balance. First performed in 1841, the ballet remains a favorite with audiences. The artistic director noted that having Maslova featured in the season finale holds special significance for the company. The performance runs approximately one hour and fifty-one minutes with an eighteen minute intermission. It is recommended for children ages eight and older, with the reminder that the themes include loss, heartbreak, and spirits seeking retribution.

Wake Up Wednesday

Wake Up Wednesday is a weekly community outreach led by the Greater Hartford NAACP that delivers direct relief, mutual aid, and immediate support to Hartford residents. It began as a small food giveaway and has grown into a broad effort that now serves hundreds of neighbors. At each gathering, families and individuals can pick up free groceries, enjoy freshly prepared meals such as cookouts and grinders, and find clothing for all ages along with household and hygiene essentials. Everything is offered with no paperwork, no screening, and no barriers. Partners on site provide practical services that meet people where they are. Support includes job assistance and reentry help for those with records or gaps in employment, legal help from Greater Hartford Legal Aid, harm reduction through CTHRA with Narcan kits, clean syringes, and overdose prevention tools, and housing and recovery resources for anyone seeking stability or treatment. The aim is to remove red tape and make vital services easy to access. For many neighbors, this weekly effort is a lifeline where dignity is honored and people look after one another so no one has to struggle alone. Those who wish to help can do so by donating, volunteering, or spreading the word, whether as a local business, a concerned community member, or someone who has benefited and wants to give back.

Women's Empowerment in Business (WEB) July 2026 Meetup

Women’s Empowerment in Business hosts a networking meetup focused on closing the distance between traditional networking and true community building through relatable conversations. As participants learn together and strengthen a supportive business community, referrals become more authentic, well qualified, and successful. This gathering features a conversation about celebrating everyday moments, guided by graphic designer Ava Rodrigues of Party Your World. The first half hour is set aside for connections and mingling before the group discussion begins. Hosted at The Flash Lady Photography, with on-site parking available in the driveway out front. Attendees are asked not to drive on the grass or cross neighboring properties, and carpooling is recommended to respect neighbors. Because the meeting takes place in a working photography studio, attendees should avoid bringing items that could stain. The studio is on the second floor and does not have an elevator. Guests are welcome to bring business cards and invite a friend. The meetup is inclusive of all business owners and individuals in career transition who are seeking a community that supports women in business. Attendance is free and registration is not required, and donations are welcome to help sustain the group. Sales & Discounts

Gamers’ Garage Sale – Dutch Auction

Gamers’ Garage Sale presents a Dutch auction edition where sellers set the opening price for each lot and the price drops as the event progresses. There is no bidding, only claims at the current listed price. The first person to claim a lot gets it immediately, so waiting may lower the cost but also increases the chance of missing out. Prices keep decreasing until they reach a minimum of 10% of the start price or $1, whichever is higher. For example, an item that begins at $100 could sit around $50 halfway through and fall to $10 by the end if no one has claimed it. Once a claim is submitted, buyers can pay and take their items right away. Sellers receive store credit equal to the final sale price of each lot. Unsold items can be picked up after the auction, and seller credit is issued shortly after the event. A seller submission form will be available, and a buyer claim form will go live on auction day. There are set periods for submitting items, a deadline for drop-off, and a final pickup deadline for sellers.
