ARRL Field Day with PARC

Amateur radio takes center stage at Liza Jackson Park as W4ZBB/K4FWB takes part in ARRL Field Day in Fort Walton Beach. Field Day blends emergency communications training with a friendly on-air contest. Participants set up radios and antennas in public spaces and power them with generators, batteries, or solar so they can practice operating without commercial power. The goal is to make contacts across North America while building the skills needed for real emergencies, showing that amateur radio can keep messages moving when other systems are down. The atmosphere is part campout and part public showcase. Clubs often welcome visitors to see the gear in action, and some offer supervised chances for newcomers to get on the air. Afterward, groups submit logs to the American Radio Relay League for scoring based on the number of contacts and bonuses such as using emergency power or involving youth. Many operators team up with a local club, follow official Field Day rules and categories, and work together to run a larger station.

Distilled: An Artist Series — Opening Gallery Night featuring Jonathan Kattine

An opening gallery night at Distillery 98 spotlights Jonathan Kattine as part of Distilled: An Artist Series, a program that draws a connection between the craft of spirits and the artistic process of refining experiences into creative expression. The evening ushers in a month-long installation spread throughout the distillery. Kattine activates the space with striking, emotionally resonant work that weaves expressive portraiture, layered narrative, and vivid color to convey energy, closeness, and shared humanity. Guests can enjoy drinks from the bar, grab a bite from a food truck, talk with the artist, and explore pieces placed across the venue as art, conversation, and community shape the atmosphere. Admission is free, the event is open to all, and an RSVP is appreciated. A separate ticketed, hands-on workshop with the artist will follow. Presented by Distillery 98 in collaboration with Emerald Coast Storytellers and in partnership with the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County. Jonathan Kattine is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Santa Rosa Beach, working across painting, photography, and sculptural mixed media. He holds a BFA in Studio Art from the University of West Florida. His practice centers on close observation and the interplay between people and their surroundings, as well as the tensions between presence and absence, and perception and reality. Highly tactile works bridge image and object through dimensional paint, organic elements, and symbolic motifs, exploring contrasts like natural and synthetic, endurance and decay, and beauty and discomfort. The Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County is a nonprofit that serves as a creative cornerstone for the region, advancing visual, performing, and public arts through advocacy, education, funding, and programming that support artists and expand community access to the arts.

Josh Davis | 2025 Artist of the Year | Live at Lulu's Destin | September 12

Outlaw country artist Josh Davis brings an intimate, guitar-only performance to LuLu’s Destin, blending fan-favorite covers from country and southern rock with his own traditional country originals drawn from real life. A national touring musician and combat-disabled U.S. Army veteran, he plays more than 150 shows each year. He received the 2025 Josie Music Award for Artist of the Year and is a 2026 nominee for Vocalist of the Year. Expect nods to the traditions of Haggard, Waylon, and Cash delivered in a straightforward acoustic style. There is no cover.
