South Walton Turtle Watch marks 10 years of its weekly sea turtle education series at The Big Chill, a family-friendly South Walton tradition focused on inspiring stewardship and protecting local nesters and hatchlings. Hands-on stations invite all ages to examine sea turtle skull replicas, see sample egg chamber demonstrations, take part in paint-your-own wooden turtle activities, and explore interactive lessons about endangered sea turtles and their hatchlings, including how to keep beaches clean, dark, and flat. Recognized as a Perfect in Walton Awards winner three years in a row, this nonprofit educational event directs all purchases and donations to sea turtle education and conservation in the community. Continuous adult supervision is provided, with staff overseeing the course and common areas, and separate time blocks set aside for middle school and high school groups. Drop-off and pick-up are simple. The cost is a $20 flat fee per student, which covers unlimited mini golf during the session, and snacks and beverages can be purchased on-site. Hosted at Dunes Mini Golf in Sandestin, it gives teens a sense of independence while offering parents a safe, organized option.

Sip N' Science: Lost in Space invites adults 21 and over to an interactive planetarium experience that pairs drinks and appetizers with a journey through the cosmos. Explore why the planets in our solar system carry the names of Roman and Greek deities, learn the name traditionally used for Earth’s moon, and uncover how planets, dwarf planets, and several moons received their legendary titles. The program blends science, mythology, adventure, and tales of unrequited love, and features trivia and audience participation. Admission includes one planetarium show inside an inflatable dome, access to Space Stations with activities from the NISE Network before the show, two drink tickets redeemable for beer, a specialty cocktail, wine, or soda, and appetizers. Guests sit on floor cushions inside the dome. Capacity is limited, so advance ticket purchase is recommended. Arriving a little early helps with check in, picking up drinks and appetizers, and getting comfortable. Tickets are $25 for nonmembers and $20 for members. Cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance incur a 10 percent administrative fee. Cancellations within 48 hours incur a 30 percent fee. Guests who do not attend will not receive a refund after the event has occurred. The planetarium is powered by FPL, and the Galaxy Gateway is courtesy of Impact100 of Northwest Florida.

At Emerald Bay Golf Club, this All Sports Association golf tournament turns a day on the course into meaningful support for youth athletics across the Emerald Coast. The association is volunteer driven and raises funds for local nonprofits with a strong focus on sports, supporting organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club of the Emerald Coast, Special Olympics Florida – Okaloosa, the Eleanor J. Johnson Youth Center, and Okaloosa Walton FCA. Participation helps provide opportunities and resources for young athletes and the programs that serve them. The format is a four person scramble, and the field is limited to the first 36 teams. The team fee is 800 dollars and covers four golfers, sponsor signage on a hole, lunch after play, and water, beer, and soft drinks. Raffles and prizes are planned, with opportunities to connect with local business and community leaders. It is a full day on the course in support of local youth sports, and spots tend to go fast as the event sells out every year.

Wear long trousers made from natural fibers and closed toe shoes, preferably leather, and do not wear Crocs. A long sleeve natural fiber shirt is suggested since scale can sting bare arms. Expect more than a thousand miles on some of Florida’s best byways with plenty of stops. A guided route highlighting top back roads is provided to attendees each morning. Her honors include South Walton Artist of the Year and Best Gallery on the Emerald Coast. She has served on the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County board, including as president, and co-founded the Underwater Museum of Art, where her sculpture Anamorphous Octopus is installed.
