    The Importance of Being Earnest

New Port Richey · Center for the Arts at River Ridge, 11646 Town Center Rd

Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest offers a bright Victorian romp through double lives, tangled courtships, and razor sharp wit. Jack Worthing maintains the image of a dutiful country guardian, then escapes to London under a different name to indulge in mischief. His friend Algernon adopts his own persona, and their overlapping deceptions quickly collide with matters of the heart. Two young women vow to marry only a man named Ernest, sparking a cascade of mistaken identities, unexpected arrivals, and revelations that turn polite society upside down. Brisk dialogue, lively characters, and pointed satire of social conventions power this classic farce, celebrating the tension between appearances and truth, the pursuit of love, and the very real importance of being earnest. This staging features two separate casts scheduled across different performances.
