Rueda de Casino: Cuban Salsa Classes

Explore Cuban salsa in the rueda de casino style at WestShore Plaza with a welcoming series of studio classes. Instruction is led by Robert Morales with assistant Laura Cristina, who bring over 20 years of dance experience and more than a decade of teaching, along with ongoing training in Cuba and abroad to share authentic technique. Expect a spacious floor, plenty of room to practice, and a friendly environment that encourages learning and social connection. The program progresses through three levels. The beginner course is a five-week series focused on core figures, partner connection, and the fundamentals of dancing in a circle. Because it is progressive, new participants are not accepted after the second week. The intermediate series builds on that foundation with standard rueda and Cuban salsa patterns, added speed and technique, and the hand signs used to call moves. Entry at this level requires completion of the beginner course or demonstrated proficiency with essential figures. The advanced class moves at a faster pace with more complex combinations and continued work on lead and follow for both partner dancing and rueda. Placement requires completion of the intermediate course or a skills check. Pricing is available as a five-class punch card for 60 dollars or as a single walk-in for 20 dollars. Purchasing a pass ahead of time helps the session begin promptly. Free parking is available in the mall lot.

The Art of Banksy

Hosted at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, The Art of Banksy assembles more than 160 original pieces in the largest authenticated grouping of privately owned Banksy works, valued at $35 million. This internationally recognized exhibition showcases verified art connected to one of the most discussed artists in contemporary culture. Visitors will encounter a breadth of media, including prints and canvases, screen prints, sculptures, unique creations, and limited editions. Signature works such as "Girl and Balloon" and "Rude Copper" appear alongside lesser-known pieces. A major highlight is the original "Flower Thrower," created in 1997 as a gift for Leonie Laws and accompanied by her exclusively filmed testimonial. Also featured is a signed, previously unseen "Mona Lisa" once purchased directly from Banksy by actor Brad Pitt, later returned to the artist in 2022 and reworked into a new piece, now displayed publicly in the United States for the first time. The Art of Banksy has drawn more than one million visitors across Melbourne, Tel Aviv, Auckland, Toronto, Miami, Gothenburg, and Sydney, and enjoyed a two-year run in London. In 2010, Time magazine included Banksy among its 100 most influential people, alongside Barack Obama, Steve Jobs, and Lady Gaga.

The Hustle: Disco Dance Lessons

The Dance Factory Tampa Bay presents disco Hustle lessons rooted in the authentic syncopated style that emerged from Latin communities in 1970s New York City. Instruction highlights the dance’s evolution from early six-count patterns to the hallmark syncopation of the disco era, with a focus on the modern rhythm that starts on the “and” followed by 1, 2, 3. Two levels are offered. The beginner class welcomes those new to the Hustle and emphasizes confidence on the floor, a strong rhythmic foundation, clear partner connection, and core figures such as the basic step and underarm turns. The intermediate class is designed for experienced dancers who are comfortable with all basics, diving into refined lead and follow, body mechanics, complex turning sequences, and polished footwork to enhance social dancing. These lessons take place at WestShore Plaza. For details or questions, contact Felix Tertulien, Hustle Dance Instructor in Tampa, at 314-623-3678.
