George Memorial Donation Based Yoga Class

This donation based yoga class honors the memory of George, the beloved companion of Kristen, owner of Keystone Yoga. All proceeds support First Ladies Farm and Sanctuary. George was born in a local animal shelter in Kristen’s Pennsylvania hometown and was adopted when he was five months old. A steadfast presence who brought comfort and joy, he filled her home with love for over 12 years. He later passed away after battling thyroid, kidney, and liver disease. In tribute to his life and the bond they shared, Kristen has chosen to benefit the sanctuary through this class. The sanctuary began from a passion for rescuing cats and kittens, and its name pays homage to the First Ladies of the United States, recognizing the often unseen work of these women. It is a community supported, no kill rescue in Riverview, Florida, serving the greater Tampa and Gulf Coast region. Beyond cats and kittens, the sanctuary cares for domestic poultry including chickens, ducks, geese, and peafowl, many of whom have survived hardship such as dumping, abuse, and arson. It is the only rescue and sanctuary for domestic poultry on the Florida Gulf Coast. Three Maremma Livestock Guardian Dogs protect the flock, which has recently grown to include three friendly goats. The organization is woman and veteran owned. Monetary donations are requested in place of a class fee to support the sanctuary’s mission, and cash contributions will be accepted prior to class.

Sally Hepworth: Mad Mabel

Bestselling author Sally Hepworth talks with Ashley Kritzer about her new novel, Mad Mabel. The story follows Elsie Mabel Fitzpatrick, an 81-year-old who has spent six decades on Kenny Lane and worked hard to keep her past hidden. When a chatty young neighbor insists on becoming her friend, old secrets begin to surface and the questions grow louder. Who was Mad Mabel fifty years ago, who is Elsie today, and what happens if history repeats. Playing with the idea that people rarely suspect little girls or elderly women, the book blends suspense with humor, charm, and heart as it moves between past and present toward a conclusion shaped by justice and redemption. Hepworth is the author of The Secrets of Midwives, The Things We Keep, The Mother’s Promise, The Family Next Door, The Mother-in-Law, The Good Sister, The Younger Wife, and The Soulmate, and she has lived for extended periods in Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Kritzer is a book-focused creator on Instagram and Substack and serves as editor at large at the Tampa Bay Business Journal, with recent experience hosting an onstage conversation with Blue Owl co-CEOs and new Tampa Bay Lightning owners Doug Ostrover and Marc Lipschultz.

AUDITIONS - Predictor

Powerstories Theatre in Tampa is holding auditions for Predictor, a play by Jennifer Blackmer directed by Gigi Jennewein. The story follows Margaret “Meg” Crane, whose idea in a pharmaceutical lab became the first home pregnancy test, reshaping privacy and autonomy for women. With sharp humor and a touch of the surreal, the play shifts through different moments in Meg’s life as she faces corporate pushback, cultural expectations, and her own doubts. It blends absurdist comedy, game show flair, and heartfelt reflection on personal agency. A cast of seven is sought. Meg Crane is a white female, 26, a graphic designer at Organon Pharmaceuticals. The remaining six performers form a chorus and cover multiple roles. One track is a younger female who portrays Jody, Lillian, and others. Another is a female in her thirties or forties who portrays Mary, Meg’s mother, and others. Another is a female of older age who portrays Meg’s grandmother, Sister Bernadette, and others. A male in his forties or above portrays Martin, Meg’s father, and others. A male in his thirties or forties portrays Jack and others. Another male in his thirties or forties portrays Ira, Bertie, and others. Those auditioning may present a monologue of their choice or prepare selections from the script, memorized. For the chorus three track, if using script selections, prepare piece one and be familiar with piece two. Script pieces are available on the audition information page. Please also complete the date request and audition form. This is a non-union project with an actor stipend. Callbacks are planned, and candidates should confirm they can commit to the full rehearsal process and performance run before auditioning.

Lecture - When Women Ruled the World

Prof. Kara Cooney offers a deep look at women who rose to the highest levels of power in ancient Egypt during the Bronze Age. Despite structural barriers that limited women’s authority in much of human history, figures such as Hatshepsut and Nefertiti ruled the wealthiest state in the ancient Mediterranean. This lecture explores how these female kings navigated power and responsibility within their social constraints, investigates some of the roots of social inequality, and moves beyond legend to clarify their historical legacy. Sponsored by Charles and Elizabeth Lyman. The lecture is included with daily admission, with Art+ Museum Members and college students admitted free and not-yet-members paying $25.
