Rueda de Casino: Cuban Salsa Classes

Rueda de Casino classes at WestShore Plaza create a warm space to dance, learn, laugh, and meet others, led by instructor Robert Morales with assistant Laura Cristina. With more than two decades of social dance experience and over 13 years of teaching, they continue training in Cuba and abroad to bring authentic technique and style to every session. The program follows a five week series format with three levels. The beginner series focuses on foundational figures and lead and follow skills within the rueda circle, and because it is progressive, new students are not accepted after the second week. The intermediate series builds on the basics and covers standard Rueda de Casino and Cuban salsa patterns while emphasizing speed, technique, and the hand signs used for each move. To participate, dancers must have completed the beginner course or confidently execute moves such as Vacila, Exhibela or Sacala, Sombrero, Adiós or Prima con la Hermana, Setenta, and Balsero without hesitation. The advanced class is fast paced and explores more complex Cuban salsa patterns while reinforcing partnerwork skills that transfer to social Casino and rueda settings. Entry requires completion of the intermediate course or solid command of patterns like Coca Cola, Setenta Complicado, Dedo, Montaña, Juana la Cubana, and Sombrero Doble. Pricing options include a five class punch card for $60 or a single walk in class for $20. Passes can be purchased in the Dance Factory app before class. Classes take place inside The Dance Factory at WestShore Plaza, and free parking is available in the mall lot.

July Summer Camp

An exclusive summer development camp from Six Tool Mindset centers on building confident, disciplined, game ready baseball athletes. It is designed for families who want true growth for their players rather than simple childcare, with a curriculum focused on real player development. Training spans hitting and defensive work, baseball IQ and situational awareness, strength and overall athletic development, leadership with confidence and discipline, and mental performance. Sessions are led by former professional player Leo Santana, a mental performance coach with World Series champion experience and a graduate student in sports psychology, alongside Dr. Pointers, a professional infield coach who specializes in elite defensive development. Athletes learn to handle pressure, strengthen confidence, compete with purpose, build consistent routines and focus, and approach preparation like serious competitors instead of merely showing up. The guiding belief is that talent alone is not enough, and that those who excel train both body and mind. Space is limited to maintain quality instruction and individualized attention, and registration will close once capacity is reached. Built for long term development, this environment offers a focused path to meaningful improvement and an advantage many players never develop.

Explore how Florida artists converse with the past at Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library. The Tampa Museum of Art’s Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Joanna Robotham, leads a talk focused on Pepe Mar, Mernet Larsen, Purvis Young, and Theo Wujcik, showing how their work draws from Old Master painters, the Russian Avant-Garde, the Impressionists, and influential figures of the twentieth century to connect past and present. Their art is part of the Tampa Museum of Art’s permanent collection, and the artists are featured in the poster exhibition Made in Florida on view across the Hillsborough County Library system.
