BS&BF: Colorful Highland Cow

Settle in for an upbeat paint night filled with music, drinks, and friendly vibes. Brush Strokes and Buzzed Folks with Haley West will guide you step by step as you create a bright spring bouquet on canvas. This is a social painting party, not a formal class, and beginners are welcome. Enjoy your favorite beverage while you create, whether it is a date night, a friends’ outing, or a solo treat. All painting supplies are included. Bring cash for food and beverages, and wear clothes you do not mind getting a little paint on. Open Mic Night

The Library Society presents an open mic night at Oakland Library featuring local writers, poets, and spoken word performers sharing their work. This event is free and open to adults, and participants must be 18 years or older. The Library Society is a social club where adults can read, socialize, craft, or play board games to unwind. Wreath Interchangeable + Munchkin Paint Party

Enjoy a creative evening at Passion & Bliss featuring a guided paint session with all materials included. Participants receive step-by-step instruction and on-the-spot help, and drinks or ice cream can be purchased separately. Attendance is capped at 15 painters to keep the experience personal. This monthly gathering suits a night out with friends or family, or a little solo creative time. Beginners are welcome, and the focus is on relaxing, painting, and having fun. Friday Night Magic Commander at TCP! (7 PM)

Enjoy a sanctioned Friday Night Magic Commander (EDH) event at The Cool Place - Albany with competitive pods and clear prize support. Entry is $5, with $4 added to the prize pool and $1 to the shop. Every participant receives at least a promo, and additional prizes go to the highest ranked players. Awards are paid out as store credit and or promos. Participation promos are drawn from Wizards of the Coast Official Promo Packs, shuffled and then distributed at random. Pods seat up to four players, or are divided as evenly as possible, and the format is single elimination. Pod winners advance until a final winners pod is formed, then that game determines first through fourth place. Gold bordered cards are allowed, and proxies are not permitted. A brief 5 to 10 minute grace period is available for players who notify staff they are running late or as a casual game wraps up. Late arrivals after the start or grace period may still enter but will receive relevant round losses. Each game is timed at 1.5 hours. When time is called, the active player finishes their turn, each other player takes one additional turn, then the highest life total wins. Remaining life totals are used to set placements when needed. On occasion, a higher priority event such as a prerelease may take precedence.

Local Weekly Yu-Gi-Oh Tournament at TCP - Albany! (Saturday)

A weekly Yu-Gi-Oh tournament takes place at The Cool Place - Albany, offering Standard format play with a $5 entry fee. The number of rounds and any top cut scale with the size of the player field. Rewind: National Poetry Month

Rewind marks National Poetry Month with a special program at the Albany Area Arts Council featuring Bummi Niyonu Anderson. An Albany native, Anderson is a poet, author, educator, and storyteller whose work engages themes of grief, love, culture, faith, and lived experience. With more than two decades of writing and appearances across stages, campuses, churches, and cultural venues, she brings a broad body of poetry and prose to the spotlight. The evening includes a featured set by Anderson, an open mic welcoming poetry, spoken word, music, and storytelling, and light refreshments with non-alcoholic beverages. Admission is pay what you wish. Open mic slots are limited, advance sign up is recommended, and walk-ins may be accepted. Women's Handgun Fundamentals Course

This women-focused handgun fundamentals class introduces the essentials of self-defense firearms and core shooting skills. An optional laser targeting segment is available, and the session does not include any live-fire exercises. If you plan to stay for the laser portion, bring your handgun but leave all ammunition at home. Any firearms brought will be inspected and cleared before anyone enters the classroom. For those interested, additional instruction on disassembling and reassembling your handgun will be offered after the main class. Friends and family can see if they would like to participate as well, since a larger group can add to the experience. The fee is $50 per person, and enrollment is limited to 20 participants. First Responders Contribute Cook Off Festival

Now in its fourth year, this cook off and festival honors first responder heroes and directs all proceeds to first responder charities. The event features food vendors, arts and crafts, bounce houses, and a barbecue competition with cooking teams in the park. Live entertainment runs throughout, including a performance by OUTTA INK. Raffles are announced during the event, and trophies are awarded to the winners at the end. The festival takes place at Jeffords Park.

Designed for children ages 3 and 4, this program at the Zoo invites little learners to explore through play and discovery. Each session features an interactive animal encounter, a craft activity, and a story focused on animals, all tailored to suit the interests and attention spans of this age group. Participation is covered by Zoo admission and is complimentary for members.

A celebration of street food and local creativity is coming to Downtown Albany. Sample a range of bites from local food trucks, then explore craft vendors showcasing handmade goods, art, and unique treasures. Blakgraz brings a multi-genre showcase to Pretoria Fields Brewery in Albany, Georgia, delivering more than three hours of continuous music filled with singalongs, danceable grooves, surprise giveaways, and plenty of interactive moments. The set draws on a catalog of over 114 original songs and features six distinctive guitars, affectionately known as Tiff, Rosa, Betty, Stella, Chosette, and Sandy. The Albany Area Arts Council invites artists 18 and older to submit work to the 26th Annual Southwest Georgia Regional Fine Art Exhibition and Sale, a juried showcase regarded as the largest of its kind in the region. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces are eligible. Each artist may enter up to two works for a nonrefundable fee of $35. Student Sculpture Workshop: Albany Turtles with Jack Hopkins

Designed for students in grades 3 to 8, this hands-on series is led by AMA Teen Art Board member Jack Hopkins, who has twice won the annual Southwest Georgia Student Art Exhibition. Working with homemade clay, participants learn core techniques for shaping and constructing as they create their own miniature Albany turtle sculptures inspired by the well-known turtle figures around the city. The series also introduces local turtle species and Albany’s natural environment, helping students connect their artwork to the world nearby. By the end, each participant will have a finished turtle sculpture ready to paint and take home. The $15 registration fee covers all three sessions, which take place over three consecutive weeks at the Albany Museum of Art.

2026 Snapper Hunting - Overnight “Floating Date”

Head out for an overnight, two day spearfishing trip that begins on the reefs and moves into federal waters, with snapper as the main target and other species also in play. Participants can bring home a two day harvest. The schedule is flexible because federal for hire snapper dates can shift, and final timing will be confirmed with plenty of notice. This outing is intended for divers who already have spearfishing skills and is not a training session. Advanced scuba certification is required along with a spearfishing course or verifiable spearfishing experience. Diving will follow a buoy style approach. Meals and snacks are provided on the boat, while travel and personal expenses are not included. A $250 nonrefundable deposit secures a place. There is also a hint of a special perk, with a new speargun possibly awarded for the largest catch.
