Friday Night Magic Commander (7 PM)

A sanctioned FNM Commander event at The Cool Place - Albany offers multiplayer Magic in pods with clear rules and structured prizes. Entry is $5, with $4 going into the prize pool and $1 to the shop. Every participant receives at least one promo for playing, and additional prize support is awarded to the highest ranked players. Payouts are provided as store credit or promos, or a combination of both. Participation promos come from WOTC Official Promo Packs that are shuffled and then redistributed at random. Matches begin in pods of up to four players, or divided as evenly as possible based on attendance. The event follows single elimination, with the winner of each pod advancing until a final winners pod is set. That last game is played out to determine placements, with first through fourth recognized as the event winners. Gold bordered cards are permitted. Proxies are not allowed, with no exceptions. A brief 5 to 10 minute grace period is available for those who let someone at the event know they are running late, including while a casual game finishes. Arrivals after the start and grace period can still be added, but with the relevant round losses. Each Commander game is timed at 1.5 hours. When time is called, the active player completes their turn, then each other player takes one additional turn. After those turns, the player with the highest life total wins, and when applicable, remaining life totals determine round placements from highest to lowest. This event may be skipped if another activity takes priority, such as a prerelease.
