SCUMBUGS will continue with a smaller role, and the team extends thanks to supporters and organizers including Bill Cutler, Harold Case, Steve Thompson, Jorg Childres, Dewayne Hardesty, and Rick and Mandy Johnson. The weekend begins with Friday arrivals selecting campsites, relaxing outdoors, and settling in for a drive-in style movie after dark on the grass, with grilling permitted in the camping area, followed by an evening cruise downtown to showcase vintage rides. Saturday centers on judging and a car show awards ceremony. Plans include complimentary camping, children’s activities such as bounce houses, balloons, and bubbles, a free swap meet, a drone race, opportunities for non food vendors to set up at no charge, and door prize drawings. Military vehicles are expected on site, there will be a barbecue cook off, and hot air balloons are planned with the possibility of three. Attendees can enjoy a spacious grassy setting, the Riverwalk where bikes are welcome, fishing along the riverbank, and a nod to local history with the National Civil War Naval Museum. Handmade trophies and plaques are part of the awards, and event and sponsor T shirts will be available in limited quantities. Pets are welcome and owners are responsible for them. Sunday introduces a special rally at a nearby six acre site featuring a Baja style track through mud and woods with single car timed runs, along with free camping at that location. Instruction covers firearm safety, types of handguns and their parts, ammunition selection and safe handling, proper loading and unloading, core shooting fundamentals, cleaning and maintenance, and secure storage of a firearm. Participation is open to those who can access the installation, and attendees must be 18 or older. The fee is $70 per person and includes a rental firearm, ammunition, a target, eye protection, and hearing protection, plus two complimentary one-day range passes. CYS Youth Sports offers a Babysitting Basics Course that helps teens interested in working with children build practical skills. Designed for ages 12 to 18, the training covers core babysitting responsibilities and safety practices and includes CPR and First Aid certification upon completion. Juneteenth Mixer and Grant Presentation
Hosted by the River Valley Black Chamber of Commerce, this annual Juneteenth mixer takes place in the Hospitality Suite at the Columbus Civic Center and centers on networking and celebration. The program recognizes award recipients from the 2026 Small Business Revitalization Grants and includes the unveiling of the 2026 directory of Black-owned businesses. Entry is free, and music with a DJ will create a lively atmosphere for making connections. FreedomFest 1776 to 2026 delivers a daytime Independence Day celebration in the Chattahoochee Valley Region, marking 250 years of the United States at the National Infantry Museum. This free, family-friendly gathering features costumed historical reenactors, military displays, and kid-focused activities with bounce houses. A bustling food court spotlights local food trucks, and live entertainment continues throughout the festivities. The day concludes with a finale concert by Keni Thomas, bringing together history, music, food, and fun for the whole community.
Chattahoochee Challenge Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon
This beginner friendly sprint triathlon and duathlon keeps the focus on fun. The experience can start with an optional water slide into the river, and it wraps up with a slide and splash pad at the finish. The swim covers 500 meters downstream where the water stays under six feet deep. Those who prefer not to swim can choose the Floatie Division and float the river instead. Duathletes begin with a one mile run. The 12 mile bike course is flat and both begins and ends on the Columbus Riverwalk. The race concludes with a flat 5k run and a final slide at the finish. Spectators will find plenty of spots to cheer along the course, and family activities continue in Uptown Columbus with bouncy castles and an open market. Registration is open.
