Discover the Secret Life of Rocks

Explore the hidden world of geology in a hands-on workshop for all ages that reveals what is inside the rocks beneath your feet and how minerals are part of everyday life. Participants handle real specimens to learn the three main rock types, then watch a kitchen-inspired demonstration that explains how granite forms using a cake-baking comparison. Junior geologists can help combine minerals with special kits to build model rocks. With professional magnifiers, everyone can study color, texture, cleavage, and crystal shapes up close, and learn why certain specimens glow under ultraviolet light. The experience concludes with a surprising demonstration of a rock that appears to float. Questions are welcome throughout. Advance registration is required, and early signups are encouraged to secure a spot. Admission is free for members and children, and $5 for nonmembers, plus an Eventbrite fee. If you cannot attend, please cancel through Eventbrite so a person on the waiting list can participate. The workshop is led by Karen Davis, a retired school librarian and member of the Owyhee Gem and Mineral Society in Canyon County. She has immersed herself in rocks and minerals through field collecting, cutting, polishing, and studying specimens under magnification, and has shared this enthusiasm with schools across the Treasure Valley, presenting to more than 2,400 young people over the past three years in an interactive, hands-on style.

Living Awake for Dying - An Intentional Sound Bath and Exploration of Death and Rebirth

Settle into a restorative sound bath and contemplative practice that invites an encounter with endings and renewal. Through attentive presence, meditation, and layered sound held in a caring space, participants are guided on an inner journey that meets impermanence with courage and tenderness. This intimate gathering grows from curiosity about how everything eventually dissolves, whether the closing chapter is a life, a dream, a relationship, or an era. Recognizing and normalizing these passages can open a path to freedom and deepen appreciation for what is here now. The experience rests on the understanding that when we willingly engage with the changing seasons of the heart, we discover a fuller way to live. Death will be explored in both literal and symbolic forms, honoring the natural cycles in which arrivals and departures mirror one another. Like nature, winter yields to rebirth, time after time. The journey is guided by Chrystalina, formerly of Boise, a practitioner with decades of bodywork experience, a singer, sound facilitator, and birth doula who is stepping into death midwifery and end of life work.
