Experience a 24-hour bowfishing tournament built around a Big 20 minus Small 20 format. Each team tallies the combined weight of its 20 heaviest carp and its 20 lightest carp, the light total is subtracted from the heavy total, and the top adjusted weight wins. For example, 200 pounds minus 80 pounds equals 120 pounds toward the final score. Teams may include up to four participants. Entry is $50 for the main competition, with optional $10 side pots that recognize the smallest fish and the biggest fish. Payout goes to 30 percent of registered teams. Carp only, taken with a bowfishing rig. Broadheads are not allowed, use fish or field points only. The competition covers open water throughout Idaho. A valid Idaho fishing license is required, and all Coast Guard and Idaho Fish and Game regulations apply. Participants under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and small children are advised to wear life preservers. Fish disposal will be available for each team. All teams must complete check in before the start to avoid disqualification. Awards will be presented after weigh in is complete, and any additional rules or announcements will be shared before launch. This event is the final leg of the Triple Crown. Formed in the cataclysmic deaths of massive stars, these objects bend space and time, consume nearby stars, and send out ripples in spacetime that instruments on Earth can detect. The story also considers the giants that anchor galactic cores, weighing as much as billions of suns, as well as still-undetected miniature black holes that could be smaller than an atom and fade in bursts of gamma rays. Black Holes: Unknown Horizons runs 32 minutes and was created by Double Dome Films for the la Caixa Foundation and the Madrid Planetarium. After the screening, a live presenter leads a tour of black holes throughout the universe and discusses which, if any, might pose a risk to Earth. Capture the mood of a summer evening on the water in a welcoming watercolor class at Magic Valley Arts Council. Participants practice glowing color washes, shape soft clouds, and create convincing reflections to suggest water, then bring the scene together step by step. The session is led by Southern Idaho artist Jenn Young, whose work spans watercolor and woodworking and who has taught in the Rupert area for several years. Materials are provided. No prior experience is required. Members of the arts council pay $20 and nonmembers pay $25.

At the Herrett Center for Arts & Science, a deep partial lunar eclipse unfolds as Earth’s shadow glides across the Moon. It begins with gentle penumbral shading, then the darker umbra takes a noticeable bite from the lower left. At the height of the event a slim band along the upper edge remains illuminated, after which the shadow steadily retreats. The partial phase wraps up as the last darkness leaves the lower right, with faint shading lingering before the Moon returns to its normal brightness. The observatory remains open as the eclipse progresses, with telescopes available for detailed views as well as opportunities to watch with the naked eye. This activity depends on the weather.
