Douglass ParkD&D 5.5 Encounters: Shadows of Sithicus: Terror in Tepest
Kick off a new season of D&D Encounters with a foray into Tepest, a Domain of Dread, in a focused 90 to 120 minute adventure. The entry fee is $5, participation is limited to five players, and attendees must be 16 or older. Bring a level 4 character or borrow a ready-made one, and remember dice, a pencil, and an eraser. The same character can be carried through the rest of the season’s sessions, and while the adventures share loose ties, taking part in other installments is not required. Characters are level 4, including the option to advance the one used in the Celebration adventure. Build using only the 5.5e D&D 2024 Player’s Handbook and Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. Generate ability scores with the Standard Array or Point Cost methods from chapter 2 of the Player’s Handbook. After first level, increase hit points using the Fixed Hit Points by Class table in that chapter. Begin with normal starting equipment and add one common magic item from chapter 7 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide, or choose a Potion of Healing instead.

Expect dramatic momentum shifts as courts, fleets, and cities drive the struggle for control. The session is intended for those with some modern board game experience. The game will be set up on arrival, the rules will be taught from start to finish, and questions will be answered throughout. These are deeper games that can be challenging for complete newcomers, and you should plan for at least two hours of play. A ticket includes full rules instruction and support for the duration of the game, a game pass for the entire day, one complimentary drink, and a button awarded for completing the concierge game. One ticket per person. Arriving 10 to 15 minutes early helps with parking, grabbing refreshments, and getting comfortable at the table. If the game wins you over, a new copy can be ordered. Purchases of food, drinks, and merchandise contribute to partner non-profit rescues through a 20 percent donation of profits.

Big vehicles will fill the parking lot, including a firetruck and multiple construction trucks that children can touch, explore, and climb into. A firetruck bounce house will be set up on the patio. The fun continues with a bubble party powered by a bubble blast robot, a Father’s Day take-home craft, and popsicles handed out throughout the day. Open play will also be available in the indoor play area. Admission is $11 per child, payable at the door.

Spend a Sunday afternoon on the farm with the goats. Take a guided walk along the pasture, past Saline Creek, through the wooded area, and around the pond which is roughly a mile and a half with photo stops and time with the goats. There is also an opportunity for everyones favorite part of the hike, the running of the goats. This includes a farmstead cheese sample at the conclusion of the hike. The hike is approximately 45–60 minutes long. This event is for ages 8 and up, dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes you dont mind getting dirty.

Learn how flowering plants and their pollinators contribute to more than a quarter of the food people eat, as well as to medicines, dyes, and fibers, and how pollinated plants provide nourishment, nest sites, and shelter for wildlife. The event also addresses current threats to pollinators, including the loss of native habitats, and explains why natural ecosystems and agriculture depend on their survival. Volunteers from the University of Illinois Extension Office will be available to answer questions about pollinators, bees, and gardening. Spend time outdoors at Mattis Park in a hands-on nature journaling workshop led by illustrator and nature enthusiast Liza Wynette. Learn creative approaches to observing and recording seasonal changes in weather, wildlife, and plant life, then practice turning those moments into art. Suitable for all ages, and no advance registration is needed. Basic materials will be available in limited quantities, and participants are welcome to bring personal sketchbooks and tools. Limited seating is available, so bringing a lawn chair is recommended. Gather in front of the parking area.

Summer Reading Celebration!
The library marks the finale of the Summer Reading Challenge with a building-wide celebration that welcomes all ages. The event features games, creative activities, live music, and cold treats from Kona Ice. Children and teen participants should pick up their prizes by this day. Adult participants will have winners drawn and contacted soon after. Library programs are free to attend.
Champaign Public LibraryArt in the Parks: Manga & Comics
Explore simple, effective techniques for drawing favorite manga and comic characters in a relaxed, hands-on session. Pick up methods to add more detail, keep characters consistent, and sketch more quickly with confidence. This activity welcomes all ages and does not require registration. Basic supplies are available while supplies last, and participants are welcome to bring their own tools and sketchbooks. Seating may be limited, so consider bringing a lawn chair.
Artventures for Kids! | Krannert Art Museum
Krannert Art Museum teams up with librarians from The Urbana Free Library for a hands-on Saturday program created for children ages 5 and up and the adults who care for them. The experience starts with a storytime tied to works on view, moves into playful exploration of the galleries that connects the stories to the art, and finishes with creative art making guided by visiting artists and sparked by the exhibition. It offers a welcoming way for families to experience the museum together while encouraging curiosity, imagination, and self-expression as participants listen, explore, and create. Presented in partnership with The Urbana Free Library, with support from the Illinois Arts Council. Nearby parking is free on weekends. Accessibility supports are available, and accommodations can be requested.
Krannert Art MuseumChristie Clinic Presents: Swim Under the Stars
Enjoy a free family swim under the stars at Sholem Aquatic Center, sponsored by Christie Clinic with involvement from chambanamoms. Lifeguards will be on duty and concessions will be available for snack purchases. No pool pass is required for entry. Children younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult, and teens must follow the Sholem Teen ID rules. This event is very popular and admission will close once the pool reaches capacity, so arriving a little early is recommended. A rain date will be announced.

Enjoy an evening with author Maggie Su as she discusses her novel Blob: A Love Story, published by Harper in 2025. The book was named one of the best of 2025 by Debutiful, Electric Literature, and The New Yorker, and it was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award. Su serves as a fiction editor at New England Review and holds a PhD in fiction from the University of Cincinnati. She lives in South Bend, Indiana, with her partner, daughter, cat, and turtle. After her presentation, books will be available to purchase and a signing will follow. Presented with support from the Library Friends and the Library Foundation, this event is part of the Great Authors at the Library series. Admission is free.
Champaign Public LibraryThe Flamazing Race!
The second edition of this playful twist on a duck race sends flamingos coursing down a curving water course toward a finish in the pool, supporting CU Special Recreation’s Flamazing programs. The flock bobs, glides, slides, and spins as they vie for first place. Registration allows entrants to choose how many flamingos to enter, priced at $5 each or $40 for a Zazzle, which is 10. Before race morning, numbers for each entered flamingo are shared so entrants know which ones to root for. A rain date is planned.
Leonhard Recreation CenterWishes on Wheels 32nd Annual Benefit Run
Now in its 32nd year, this community benefit run features a sign-up period, a group photo, and a coordinated ride departure. Motorcycles, cars, and other vehicles can take part, with four-wheeled participants asked to follow the designated chase vehicle to help keep riders safe. Activities include marbles games, 50/50 drawings, raffle prizes, and both live and silent auctions. Proceeds support a local family and help turn wishes into reality for those who need it most.

On the verge of releasing his first Nashville solo LP, he brings a distinctive songwriting voice with striking range and depth, continuing to build momentum within indie circles.
