Set within Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area, also known as Site M, this third-year gravel race delivers a 55-mile challenge across meadows, farmland, and forest preserves. The course is being finalized, but riders can anticipate roughly an even split between pavement and gravel and about 2,500 feet of climbing. Longer efforts come on smooth pavement with sustained half to three quarter mile ascents averaging 4 to 6 percent. The gravel brings frequent short, steep kickers, typically under a quarter mile, many reaching double-digit gradients with a few nearing 20 percent. On-course support includes SAG assistance, refreshments at the staging area, and an aid station around mile 30 with optional drop bags. A catered meal is planned after the ride. Route marking may vary based on conservation area rules. The race will proceed in most conditions and will only be called off for severe weather such as tornadoes or flash floods. Prizes await the top three in each of four categories, with 50 percent of the purse to first, 30 percent to second, and 20 percent to third. Minimum payouts per podium are $150, $90, and $60, and amounts may grow with sponsorship and registration. Any funds above event costs are directed to prize support. This event shares the venue with the Illinois Senior Games to streamline logistics.
