Fortlandia Brewing CompanyMatriarch Artist Reception
An artist reception at Kinhouse Gallery celebrates Matriarch, a two-person exhibition by Lindsay Martin Gryskewich and Rachael Zur, with both artists in attendance. The exhibition reflects on home as a living portrait of Mother, Grandmother, and self, where memory and place overlap. The influence of a matriarch is sensed in the rooms she shaped, in well-loved furniture and keepsakes, as shifting recollections piece together who she was and who one becomes. Gryskewich’s paintings use space, color, pattern, and mixed media to braid together histories of houses, both personal and borrowed, often incorporating visual traces of places claimed by matriarchs as she considers how spaces change while she steps into that role. Drawing imagery from loved ones’ homes as well as estate sales and open houses, Zur creates paintings with a ceramic quality that focus on domestic objects and their ability to carry the warmth and tenderness of those who are gone. Through materials with a sense of heft, she grounds ephemeral ideas in solid form to honor the traces of lives held within a home. Seen together, their works share an abiding tenderness within domestic spaces and highlight the care that makes them feel almost sacred, offering a side-by-side viewing of new and recent pieces.

An evening attuned to the full moon brings together gentle, therapeutic movement and immersive sound to support deep relaxation and clarity. The opening 45 minutes with Claudia focuses on soft yoga that eases the joints and invites somatic curiosity, with breath guiding each transition. The next 45 minutes with Joe centers on sound as breath, tone, and vibration create spaciousness while waves move through body and mind, allowing the thinking mind to rest. Many find that this cocoon of sound invites insight and a bright sense of clarity. Together, the two halves trace a path from motion to stillness and from embodied practice into spacious being, with the full moon setting the tone. Rest on a mat, choose a chair, or wrap up in a blanket and stay cozy for the sound portion. Every body, every age, and every ability is welcome, with props available and support offered to meet each person where they are. Bring a mat, a blanket, and anything that helps you feel held.
