Free events in Independence, KY

Spend a morning in the gardens helping keep the Arboretum in great shape. Volunteers collaborate with staff on relaxed, hands-on tasks such as planting flowers, light pruning, mulching, and other basic garden care. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to help and enjoy the fresh air. Tools are provided, and you are welcome to bring gloves, a kneeling pad, and sun protection. Work typically continues through brief, passing showers, with cancellations only for steady rain. Most sessions end with an optional group lunch, making it a social experience as well as a volunteer opportunity. Gather at the first parking lot on the left near the flagpole, then head together to the day’s project area. Attend once or come back each week. Please register in advance to help organizers plan projects and materials.
