Henning SEED CenterSouthwest Coastal Louisiana Project Public Meeting, Lake Charles, La.
This public meeting in Lake Charles provides an opportunity for community members to learn about the Southwest Coastal Louisiana Storm Risk Management and Ecosystem Restoration Project, determine eligibility, and connect with members of the project team. For questions, call 877-814-2539. The project is designed to reduce hurricane and storm damage risks while restoring coastal ecosystems across about 4,700 square miles in Calcasieu, Cameron, and Vermilion parishes. With low elevation, flat terrain, and proximity to the Gulf of America, the region is vulnerable to flooding from tidal surge and waves generated by tropical storms. Land subsidence combined with sea level rise is expected to heighten the threats of coastal flooding, shoreline erosion, saltwater intrusion, and the loss of wetland and Chenier habitats.
Calcasieu Parish Public Library Central BranchPoetry Open Mic Night | Share Your Original Poetry in Lake Charles
This open mic is shaped for poets who jot lines on receipts and find metaphors at stoplights. This night invites writers to share work with people who value the craft, from rhythm and cadence to the courage and quiet vulnerability behind each poem. Step up to the mic or relax in the crowd to listen, snap, and cheer among kindred spirits who speak a shared creative language. The aim is not perfection, it is presence. Show up, speak your truth, and find connection in the rhythm of words. Bring a notebook, your heart, and favorite verses if you plan to read, or arrive ready to listen. Settle in with fellow poets who understand that a few lines can carry a lifetime and that every poem deserves to be heard.
