Learn to build a three-legged stool with instructor Jonathan Thomas as part of the Craft & Create workshop series at Historic City Hall. This hands-on class covers how wood behaves, how to read grain, and how to choose materials for both durability and ease of working. With step-by-step guidance and demonstrations, participants progress from raw materials to a finished piece. The workshop takes place over two days. On the first day, participants select materials, get familiar with key tools and techniques, and shape a matching set of legs. On the second day, they take precise measurements, assemble the stool, and add final touches. There is no admission fee. Open to ages 16 and up, with only five seats available.

2026 SHS Main Campus - Transfer/New Student Enrollment

New transfer students to the Sulphur High Main Campus can complete enrollment at the main campus. This registration is intended for students who will be new to Calcasieu Parish, as well as those who attended a Calcasieu Parish school in the past but did not complete the 2025 to 2026 school year at Sulphur 9th Grade or Sulphur Main Campus. It does not apply to students who were already enrolled in SHS 9th grade for the 2025 to 2026 school year. To finalize the application, bring the student’s birth certificate, immunization records, the most recent report card, custody paperwork if it applies, the student’s Social Security card, and a photo ID for the parent or guardian. Proof of address is required, including an electric bill showing the parent or guardian’s name and service address, plus a second utility bill with the same name and service address. If any required items are missing, parents or guardians will need to visit the Central Office to obtain a permit to register, which will delay enrollment.

Kids Camp Ghost Pals Week | Ages 6-14

Kids ages 6 to 14 can immerse themselves in a creative art camp that keeps minds active while school is out. Each day includes a guided 16x20 canvas painting, lively games and interactive activities, along with crafts that campers can take home. Families may register for the complete four-day session or choose single days. The cost is $200 for the week or $55 per day, and a multi-child discount is available for those enrolling more than one child. Breastfeeding Foundations

Prepare for life with a newborn at a Breastfeeding Foundations class hosted by the WCCH Women's Center at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. Three-Legged Stool Workshop with Jonathan Thomas

Part of the Residency at the Museum program, this hands-on workshop is led by Jonathan Thomas and focuses on traditional carving methods for creating a handmade stool. The class spans two days and is free for participants. Only five maker spots are available, and there will be additional room for people who wish to watch the process. Activities take place in the auditorium at Central School. Finished pieces may be retained for a community exhibit planned for 2027. Registration is available to request a placement. Support is provided by The City of Lake Charles and the Arts & Humanities Council of SWLA.

Families are welcome at a back to school supply drop created through a community partnership between Sulphur Parks and Recreation and the Sulphur Christian Community Coalition. Guests can receive a free goodie bag with basic school supplies, available while supplies last. Families can take in the atmosphere and head into the new school year prepared.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church hosts a community back to school bash focused on encouragement, connection, and practical support for local students and families.
