Daily Guided Garden Tours at Berkshire Botanical Garden
Wander through 24 acres of vibrant gardens in the Berkshires, close to well known destinations such as the Norman Rockwell Museum and Tanglewood. Public guided tours are led by knowledgeable volunteers and typically last about an hour. They are included with admission, do not require reservations, and are offered weather permitting, with departures from the Visitor Center. Those who prefer to explore independently can use a smartphone audio tour available throughout the season in English and Spanish, also included with admission, featuring 21 narrated stops across the grounds. The Colonial TheatreNorth Adams Draws Weekly Drawing Sessions
This uninstructed, drop-in studio session welcomes artists at every experience level to practice rendering likeness, proportion, and striking lighting at a comfortable pace. A single portrait pose is maintained throughout, arranged in 20 minute segments with short stretch pauses and a 10 to 15 minute break at the midpoint. With no teaching or critique, the atmosphere remains low pressure so participants can focus on developing a personal style. Please bring your own paper and drawing materials. Recommended options include graphite, charcoal, conté, colored pencils, ballpoint pens, and clean, mess free sketchbooks. Oil painting is not permitted at this time while ventilation and disposal solutions are being addressed, with the goal of allowing oils in the future. An intimate performance with the Stéphane Wrembel Quartet centers on the acclaimed guitarist from Fontainebleau, France, known for weaving jazz, gypsy swing, and world music into a distinctive voice. His original pieces have appeared in the films Midnight in Paris and Vicky Cristina Barcelona, including Bistro Fada, and Midnight in Paris earned the Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack. He was invited by composer Hans Zimmer to play with an all star band at the Academy Awards. Across more than twenty albums under his name and the Django Experiment moniker, his projects continue to explore new directions. Triptych, created with improvisational pianist Jean-Michel Pilc, drew praise from leading music publications. His latest, Django New Orleans II: Hors-Série, brings together New Orleans brass and rhythms with the spirit of jazz manouche, offering new takes on classics and two original compositions, including his first outing as a vocalist. Wrembel has worked with artists such as Elvis Costello, Patti Smith, The Roots, Medeski Martin and Wood, Me’shell Ndegeocello, John Scofield, Larry Keel, Stochelo Rosenberg, and Sam Bush, and has appeared on NPR’s Mountain Stage and the syndicated Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour. A rare combination of banjo, harp, and drums fuels a new project from Béla Fleck, Edmar Castañeda, and Antonio Sánchez. Fleck, the recipient of 19 Grammy Awards, has widened the banjo’s possibilities across settings from bluegrass and the Flecktones to a duo with Chick Corea and a fresh interpretation of Rhapsody in Blue. Castañeda, originally from Bogotá, Colombia, leads his own ensembles and has collaborated with artists including Hiromi, Paquito D’Rivera, and Grégoire Maret. Sánchez, who has earned five Grammy Awards and grew up in Mexico City, is acclaimed for his work with Pat Metheny and for his stature in contemporary jazz. The trio appears in support of their album BEATrio, presenting original music, much of it co-written, with memorable melodies, rich harmonies, and grooves that twist and evolve. The collaboration has drawn praise from NPR Music and Jazzwise. Tickets are $49 to $89, members receive $5 off each ticket, and a $15 ticket is available for those aged 30 and under through the box office or by phone.

Volunteer: West Branch Housatonic River Cleanup
Berkshire Environmental Action Team and the Housatonic Valley Association invite volunteers to an annual cleanup along the West Branch of the Housatonic River. Participants will meet at Westside Riverway Park, then head to nearby areas on the banks and into the riverbed to collect trash, with canoes used to haul what is found. A free lunch from a local restaurant will be provided after the cleanup for those who RSVP in advance. Registration is requested so organizers can prepare materials and food and note any dietary needs. Volunteers should be ready to get wet and dirty and are encouraged to wear old clothes, a hat, sunscreen, and old sneakers or waterproof boots or waders, and to bring a full water bottle and sunglasses. A limited number of waders will be available to borrow. In the event of pouring rain or lightning, the cleanup will be postponed. Over the years, these efforts have removed items such as mattresses, shopping carts, inflatable pools, bicycles, televisions, tires, construction materials, metal barrels, everyday litter, and even an empty ATM, leading to noticeably smaller piles of trash as the work continues. Take part in a community 5K road race that follows much of the Pittsfield hometown parade route and finishes at Wahconah Park. Registration uses tiered pricing, and Berkshire County students in grades K-12 can enter at no cost. An online processing fee applies, and there are no refunds or deferments. In-store registration and bib pickup are available at Berkshire Running Center before race day, with bib pickup only at Wahconah Park on race morning. Day-of registration is not offered. The first 1,000 registered adults and first 300 youth will receive a technical shirt while supplies last. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three overall finishers and to the top three in each age division. Team bragging rights are on the line with Corporate Challenge and Team Challenge trophies recognizing the fastest teams based on five combined times. An awards ceremony will be held at Wahconah Park after the race. Parking is available at the park with designated access, municipal lots in the downtown area are open, legal side-street parking is allowed, and drop-offs are encouraged. For safety, pets are not allowed and headphones are discouraged. Wheelchairs and disabled push strollers are welcome, and accommodations can be arranged in advance. Restrooms are available at Wahconah Park before and after the race, there are none at the starting area, and a water station will be provided at the start and finish. Spectators will find ample viewing along the parade route and should remain outside the finish chute. Proceeds benefit community programs at BMC, and business sponsorships help raise funds for BHS community wellness programs while providing race entries for corporate teams.

The morning features yoga and meditation on the Williams Inn lawn, weather permitting, supported by Tasha Yoga. The Williamstown Farmers Market sets up in the Spring Street parking lot, and family activities line the street with help from the Williams College Center for Learning in Action, Chapter Two Books, and Pine Cobble School. A hometown parade travels from Southworth Street to Spring Street, followed by a free community hot dog cookout on Walden Street. Brass-O-Mania performs on the Post Office steps with support from the Clark Art Institute. A free community swim is offered at Sand Springs Pool through the Sand Springs Pool and Recreation Center. At Williams College Chapin Hall, a performance brings the founding documents to life presented by Williamstown Theatre Festival and Williams College, and the founding documents can also be viewed at Williams College Sawyer Library. Images Cinema hosts screenings from the 2026 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour with support from the Williamstown Cultural District and Images Cinema. As evening approaches, a barbecue for purchase is available at the Weston Field and Taconic Golf Club parking lot in support of the North Adams Lions Club, and fireworks light up the sky at Taconic Golf Club. A community cleanup of the West Branch of the Housatonic River brings together the Berkshire Environmental Action Team and the Housatonic Valley Association. Volunteers will gather at Westside Riverway Park, then split into teams to remove litter from the riverbanks and riverbed, with canoes used to haul the collected debris. A complimentary lunch from a local restaurant will be provided after the cleanup for those who RSVP in advance. Volunteers should be ready to get wet and muddy. Wearing old clothes, a hat, sunscreen, sturdy old sneakers or waterproof boots or waders, sunglasses, and bringing a full water bottle is recommended. A limited number of waders will be available to borrow. In the event of pouring rain or lightning, the cleanup will be postponed. These efforts make a clear difference for the river’s health. Past cleanups have removed items such as mattresses, shopping carts, inflatable pools, bicycles, televisions, tires, construction materials, metal barrels, and everyday trash, even an empty ATM. Thanks to continued volunteer involvement, the amount of debris has been decreasing. Registration is requested to help organizers prepare materials and food and to note any dietary restrictions. West Branch River Cleanups are organized by BEAT and HVA and co-sponsored by the City of Pittsfield.

Polish Falcons of America Nest 580New York Theatre Workshop's "Mind the Gap"
New York Theatre Workshop brings its intergenerational program Mind the Gap to the Mahaiwe, taking place in the Indigo Room for a full week of collaborative theatre-making. Designed to connect teenagers and older adults, the workshop focuses on identity, legacy, and empathy through storytelling and performance. Participants partner across generations and also work as a full ensemble to create original pieces drawn from their own experiences. The process culminates in a shared presentation of the work as a free public performance in the Indigo Room. The program is facilitated by New York Theatre Workshop, with teaching artists Noor Hamdi and Psacoya Guinn leading the workshop. Youth participants receive $250 stipends.

Lala Tamar teams up with master kora player Yacouba Sissoko for an evening that threads North and West African traditions with a contemporary spark. A singer, songwriter, poet, guimbri player and dancer, Lala shapes ritual-infused North African sounds into a distinctly feminine voice, singing in Arabic, Amazigh and Portuguese with music that feels both nostalgic and dreamlike. She broke new ground by recording a contemporary album in Haquetia and, as one of the first women to carry the guimbri into new musical contexts, has shared stages with Karim Ziad, Khadija El Warzazia and Mehdi Nassouly. She also made her Lincoln Center debut in NYC. With a new album of original songs mainly in Darija, she offers an intimate Moroccan tribute to her heritage, welcoming listeners into a space of play, poetry, softness and strength. The ensemble traces the path of a desert caravan, slides into shaabi grooves linked to Agahadir and Algiers, and weaves African string textures with Arabic ornamentation. The program touches ceremonial healing music, trance-like connection and poetry carried across centuries, highlighting friendship, love and a shared humanity that reaches beyond borders. Yacouba Sissoko devotes his artistry to sharing West African history and culture while carrying messages of peace, love and harmony. Born into a renowned Djeli family in Kita, Mali, he began learning the 21-string kora and its oral traditions from his grandfather at age nine and was touring by fifteen. He studied at the National Institute of the Arts in Bamako and performed with Ami Koita, Kandia Kouyate, the Raoul Fulero Ensemble and l'Ensemble National du Mali. Rooted in community, he presents cultural programs and benefit concerts worldwide and blends his virtuosity with styles from Indian ragas to Appalachian tunes. He performs regularly with Regina Carter and with his own band, SIYA. General admission is $43 plus processing fees, and seating is at café tables. Member and public sales are available.
14th Annual Sweltering Summer 8-Hour Ultramarathon
An eight hour timed event on a certified dirt and cinder loop invites runners and walkers to cover as much distance as they wish. The .355 mile track encircles Clapp Park. Athletes start counter clockwise, switch directions halfway through, may use the full width of the surface, and can step onto the adjacent outer grass. The format is walker friendly, only fully completed laps count, and every participant receives an official marathon split at 74 laps. Chip timing is provided by Mike Melton and MCM Timing with a live, shareable leaderboard for spectators and post race review. Race day only packet pickup is offered. On course support features trackside personal table space with quick bottle refills, packaged snacks, and a no contact water and sports drink setup. Ice pops are served in the morning and pizza in the afternoon as an extra boost, and participants may set up personal areas along the loop. Overall champions are recognized alongside age group awards for 0 to 12, 13 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, and 80 plus, with additional longevity and mileage honors at the finish. A virtual eight hour option is available in support of the AYJ Fund, including a handmade Ragged Cuts medal, an optional shirt for an additional $10, no age group awards, and a requirement to submit distance proof to the race director. Proceeds benefit the AYJ Fund, a northern Berkshire County nonprofit serving children facing a cancer diagnosis. Discounts include half price entry for participants under 20 with code YOUTH50, 10 percent off for those who have completed the race at least three times with code SERIALRUNNER, and 10 percent off for teachers, first responders, and active or retired service members with code SERVICE. Barrington Hall presents the Dave Matthews Tribute Band, a Buffalo, New York based group devoted to honoring the classic Dave Matthews Band sound. With more than twenty years of dedication and a relentless road life dating back to 2004, they have played over 2,000 shows across 46 states and 10 countries. Expect intricate guitar lines, violin that soars, smooth saxophone, and drumming that moves from exploratory to explosive, all crafted to evoke the 1990s era of tape trading, spirited sing-alongs, and adventurous musicianship. The performance blends the feel of the early years with selections from later and current chapters to deliver a rounded and authentic tribute. Summer Movie Night (August) at Clapp Park
The Summer Movie Nights series returns to Clapp Park with sponsorship from Greylock Federal Credit Union. The August installment features a screening of Barbie, with the film beginning around sunset. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for comfortable lawn seating. The Lions Club of Pittsfield will sell popcorn and sodas, and only cash will be accepted. MASS MoCA Museum Educators lead free art workshops at the North Adams Public Library. This is a co-presentation hosted at the library rather than at MASS MoCA. The Northeast Unschooling Conference brings families together in the Berkshires at Camp Winadu for a blend of meaningful conversation and classic summer camp fun. Kids can jump into activities such as foam sword play, tie dye, and Rubik’s cubes. Families with children up to age 6 can take part in a storytime led by MASS MoCA Museum Educators, followed by a brief gallery walkthrough and conversation about the art. Roomful of Teeth, the GRAMMY Award-winning vocal ensemble, returns to MASS MoCA to develop a full-length concert piece with Puerto Rican-born composer Angélica Negrón and Balún, a transnational indie electronic band based in Brooklyn. The Puerto Rico Experiment is a new song cycle that unfolds through brief sound vignettes for voices set within a varied blend of acoustic and electronic textures. It taps the expressive range of the human voice, reimagines Caribbean folk traditions, and layers electronics to form a distinct musical world that moves among history, memory, and an imagined future.
