Kerri Powers

The Antonia and Vladimir Kulaev Cultural Heritage Fund presents a lobby concert series that spotlights local and regional performers in a comfortable, close-knit setting, with the lobby reimagined as a 70-seat listening lounge. Kerri Powers appears with an acoustic guitar, a simple chair, and a tambourine on her boot, delivering deft country-blues fingerpicking rooted in the Piedmont tradition. Her playing invites comparisons to Rory Block, Chris Smither, Blind Blake, and Gary Davis, while her vocals carry grit, nuance, and warmth. The set spans the bluesy drive of Tallulah Send A Car For Me, the gentle hush of Train In The Night, and the playful spirit of Peepin’ Tom, all shaped by thoughtful writing and assured delivery. A lifelong creator who began crafting songs at nine, Powers grew up immersed in reading, painting, and guitar. Her family history includes a distant connection to Bing Crosby on her father’s side, maternal relatives linked to Herman Melville, and a grandmother who earned a living accompanying silent films on piano. Guided by her mother’s extensive record collection, she absorbed the work of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and John Prine. She recalls first hearing Prine’s Hello in There as a brief yet unforgettable journey that blended sorrow with hope, an influence that continues to color her songs and storytelling.

Mindfulness Hike at Shifting Lots Preserve

Step away from daily routines and slow down with a guided mindfulness hike at Shifting Lots Preserve. Wildlands Trust volunteer hike leader Betsy and Programming Coordinator Amy Burt will lead a quiet walk along the shores of Cape Cod Bay, with mindfulness instruction provided by experienced teacher Betsy Hall. Expect about an hour and a half of standing and walking practices in an open and welcoming space where participants can be themselves, supported by Wildlands Trust volunteers and staff. Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket or towel for beach sitting, wear sturdy closed-toed shoes, dress for the weather, and pack water and a snack. Tickets are $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers. This program is for ages 18 and older, pets are not permitted, and space is limited to 10 hikers with a minimum of 5 required. Parking is available at the preserve and the lot is small, so hikers may be asked to double park. With more than 25 years of experience, meditation teacher Betsy Hall trained under Jose Silva and has also studied with Zen Masters, Buddhist teachers, and Christian leaders. She enjoys guiding hikes in the forest, sees nature as a powerful meditation teacher, and supports participants in self-discovery and delight, drawing on her background as a teacher and guidance counselor. Outdoor programs are weather dependent, and any cancellations or postponements will be shared online with registered attendees notified by email. For questions, email events@wildlandstrust.org.

Seal Sightings

Celebrate the year-round presence of seals off the coast of Massachusetts with a guided sighting that pairs wildlife watching with learning. Experts share engaging facts about these sentinel marine mammals, why they matter to the ecosystem, and which species appear in different seasons. Watch for seals resting on shore and swimming in their natural habitat. Weather permitting, an anatomically accurate seal model will be available to explore adaptations and the traits humans share as mammals. The walk to the water takes only a few minutes and is appropriate for adults and children. Expect uneven paths and a very rocky beach, so wear close-toed shoes. Coastal conditions can be windy and cold, and layers are recommended. Binoculars are encouraged for closer views, with some available to borrow, and seals are often visible without them. Photography is welcome. Parking information: WDC staff will meet attendees at the bottom parking lot. If that lot is full, use the additional trail lot across the street. Parking is limited, so carpooling helps. For more information, call 508-746-2522. Tickets and donations are non-refundable.

The Wailin' Jenny's

The Wailin’ Jennys take the stage at Plymouth Memorial Hall. Nicky Mehta, Ruth Moody, and Heather Masse blend three distinct voices into a seamless harmony. The trio began as a one-time gathering of solo singer-songwriters at a small guitar shop in Winnipeg, Manitoba, then evolved into a widely admired international folk act. Antje Duvekot and more

A showcase of two distinctive voices in contemporary folk, featuring Antje Duvekot and Richard Shindell. Duvekot brings the road-earned presence of an artist who has toured the United States and Europe many times, appeared at premier gatherings like the Newport Folk Festival, Mountain Stage, and the Philadelphia and Kerrville festivals, and headlined Scotland’s Celtic Connections and Denmark’s Tonder Festival. Her honors include the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, the Kerrville Best New Folk Award, and a Boston Music Award for Outstanding Folk Act. Her fifth studio album, New Wild West, reflects a midlife inflection point, shifting from simply naming past wounds to meeting them with resolve. Songs such as Girl on a Wire and Evolution speak to perseverance and the long work of finding a voice, continuing a relationship with music that began as a refuge and now aims to give something back. Richard Shindell, a New Yorker living in Buenos Aires, writes narrative songs that paint scenes, inhabit characters, and juxtapose vivid images. Experiences ranging from time in a Zen Buddhist monastery to busking on Paris streets inform that perspective. His album Careless, shaped across three years between New York and Buenos Aires, is a full length statement built through patient studio exploration. It balances his recognizable acoustic approach with a deeper embrace of electric guitar for a broader sonic range.

The Steel Wheels

The Steel Wheels bring two decades of shared music-making to the stage as they mark the milestone with a self-titled ninth studio album. Following their 2024 release Sideways, the third created with producer Sam Kassirer at Great North Sound Society in Maine, the band shifted course and teamed up with producer and engineer D. James Goodwin, who previously mixed Over The Trees. They recorded live together at The Isokon in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, an approach that favored spontaneity, close listening, and a palpable sense of togetherness. The new record showcases the group’s full breadth, moving from the drive of folk rock to the intimate, harmony-rich acoustic sound that has been there since the start, balancing energy, humor, and insight with quiet, personal moments and a fresh spin on the string band tradition. Banjo player and songwriter Trent Wagler grounds the songs with thoughtful lyrics that ask big questions, including the summer-light pull of Easy, which considers what we trade when everything on the other side of our screens feels, well, easy.

Intermediate Sewing Workshop: Memory Bear

Transform meaningful garments into a huggable keepsake in this intermediate sewing workshop focused on creating a Memory Bear. Over three sessions totaling nine hours, participants follow a commercial pattern and build confidence with essential steps such as planning cutting layouts, transferring pattern marks, precise cutting, and reading visual diagrams. Key techniques include navigating curves and circular seams, constructing a fully three-dimensional project, and turning and stuffing for a smooth, finished shape. Bring clothing to repurpose, or use a bundle of fat quarters to make a practice version before cutting into sentimental pieces. Woven fabrics work best. If using stretchy knits like T-shirts or jerseys, lightweight fusible interfacing is needed to stabilize the material. The workshop fee is $165 for the complete three-day course. The finished bear makes a heartfelt gift, whether created from childhood outfits for a graduate or garments that honor a loved one.

Spire Lobby Series: Sam Robbins and more

Presented by The Antonia and Vladimir Kulaev Cultural Heritage Fund, this installment of a series that spotlights local and regional musicians offers a relaxed, intimate concert experience on the mainstage. Known for creating a cozy, 70-seat lounge atmosphere in the lobby, the series brings a close-up feel to thoughtful songwriting and distinctive voices. Sam Robbins, a singer songwriter with an old-soul sensibility, draws on the spirit of 1970s greats like James Taylor and Neil Young while adding a lively, contemporary edge to the troubadour tradition. His third album, So Much I Still Don’t See, reflects years spent on the road, including grueling stretches of about 45,000 miles a year, capturing the lessons and stories gathered through constant travel and early-career milestones. Grace Morrison blends piano and accordion with a love of history, a Renaissance Faire flair, cranberry farming roots, and even a personal coffee blend, channeling a deep connection to New England. Raised on Cape Cod, she has shaped a style she calls Saltwater Country, mixing country-style storytelling and twang with the grit and heart of the coastal Northeast. Her vocals have been praised for their sweetness and clarity, and critics have noted similarities to artists such as Jewel, Joan Osborne, Lisa Loeb, and Natalie Merchant.

Session Americana

Session Americana is a Boston-based collective of top-tier singers, players, and writers that tours internationally, mixing its own catalog with a deep well of songs from the American songbook to create a lively, close-knit atmosphere centered on joy. For this performance, longtime friend and collaborator Kris Delmhorst is part of the lineup. On stage they trade instruments, rotate lead vocals, and share songwriting, continually exploring new collaborations and delivering a sound that feels timeless, equal parts rock energy and folk spirit in an intimate package. The group grew from friends swapping songs in a bar, to a sought-after weekly residency, to a touring collective. Along the way they have released nine albums, played clubs and festivals across the United States and Europe, and built strong ties with a broad community of musicians while choosing their own path over industry formulas. Their connection has drawn admiration from peers and press alike: Anaïs Mitchell has praised their joyful focus and effortless musical conversation, Rolling Stone has noted their rotating lineup and roots in the Irish seisiún tradition while highlighting their blend of country, jazz, and rock within American roots music, and Bluestown Music Netherlands has celebrated the way they center music and the shared emotion it creates.

Sunday Serenades: Forever Simon & Garfunkel

Forever Simon & Garfunkel: A Tribute honors the top-selling duo in rock and roll with a concert that follows Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel from their teenage beginnings and early folk days to worldwide chart success, then dips into highlights from Paul Simon’s solo catalog. Award-winning singer-songwriters Sean Altman of Rockapella and Jack Skuller, a Songwriters Hall of Fame Buddy Holly Prize recipient, power the show with wit, spirited delivery, and pinpoint harmonies. The set features favorites such as The Sound Of Silence, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Mrs. Robinson, I Am A Rock, The Boxer, Homeward Bound, Cecilia, Hazy Shade Of Winter, Feeling Groovy, Me & Julio Down by the Schoolyard, and Kodachrome. Altman and Skuller first paired on stage in 2010 for a duet of Mrs. Robinson, bringing together a newly minted AARP member with a just-turned-14 artist and revealing a striking blend. They have toured as The Everly Set since 2016 in tribute to The Everly Brothers, then launched Forever Simon & Garfunkel in 2020 and continue to take both shows to audiences worldwide. This tribute can appear as a two-voice, two-guitar performance or expand to a four-piece with bass and drums.

Chazz Palminteri: A Bronx Tale Live

At Plymouth Memorial Hall, Chazz Palminteri performs his autobiographical one man play A Bronx Tale, a work he first created in 1988 about growing up in the Bronx after witnessing a gangland killing at nine years old. On stage he inhabits 18 characters, allowing family, friends, and adversaries from his neighborhood to step forward with distinct voices. The story behind the show is part of its history. Hollywood pursued the rights on the condition that another actor would play Sonny and someone else would write the screenplay. With only two hundred dollars, Palminteri declined, then Robert De Niro saw the production and offered the opportunity he was waiting for. Palminteri went on to write the film’s screenplay and later the book for the Broadway musical, becoming the rare artist who created and starred in the one man play, the movie, and the musical. Over the past 35 years he has appeared in more than 60 films, including The Usual Suspects, Analyze This, Mulholland Falls, Jade, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Legend, and Bullets Over Broadway, which earned him an Academy Award nomination. His television work spans over 20 series and three Emmys, with recent roles in Modern Family, Godfather of Harlem, Law & Order, and Gravesend.

SHEMEKIA COPELAND

Shemekia Copeland brings a commanding, soulful voice grounded in roots and blues. A multiple GRAMMY nominee recognized worldwide for songs that blend candor, courage and humor, she pairs incisive storytelling with an engaging presence. The Chicago Tribune has praised her as a leading female blues vocalist of today. Her latest album, Blame It On Eve, was recorded in Nashville with producer and longtime collaborator Will Kimbrough. Across 12 new songs she balances weighty topics, including reproductive autonomy and climate change, with tracks built for release and celebration. The collection moves from the autobiographical boogie Tough Mother and the anthemic title track to the easygoing spirit of Wine O’Clock. Guest musicians add distinctive colors throughout. Jerry Douglas contributes dobro to a piece tracing the true story of Tee Tot Payne, the early Alabama musician who taught Hank Williams the blues. Sacred steel player DaShawn Hickman powers the uplifting Tell The Devil. Alejandro Escovedo appears on the searching Is There Anybody Up There?. On Belle Sorcière, Copeland sings the chorus in French to a haunting melody by Pascal Danae of the Paris group Delgres. She also unleashes a deep-blues reading of Down On Bended Knee, written by her father Johnny Copeland, and closes with Heaven Help Us All, a classic associated with Stevie Wonder and later Ray Charles. Raised in Harlem, Copeland first stepped on stage at age eight alongside her father at New York’s Cotton Club, then broke through at 18 with her Alligator Records debut Turn The Heat Up. Early accolades came from The New York Times and CNN, and by The Soul Truth in 2005 she had earned eight Blues Music Awards along with multiple Living Blues honors. Wicked, released in 2000, marked the first of her five GRAMMY nominations. After two albums on Telarc, including the 2012 nominee 33 1/3, she returned to Alligator in 2015 with the GRAMMY-nominated, Blues Music Award-winning Outskirts Of Love, weaving classic blues with Americana textures.

PAUL THORN

Paul Thorn has spent three decades turning soulful grooves and plainspoken lines into songs that land with real force. His background includes years as a pro boxer, and he writes with punch, precision, and warmth, shaping compact mantras that comfort, encourage, and get people moving. His new album, Life is Just A Vapor, carries that spirit forward with messages about resilience and living fully, as heard in tracks like Tough Times Don’t Last and Old Melodies. Across songs such as I Knew, She Will, Wait, and Courage My Love, he shifts from playful warnings and wild characters to intimate confessions about love, loss, and the everyday work of commitment, sometimes pairing the tales with his own cartoons. A music writer has described him as an everyman with candid humor and folksy truth that quickly wins people over. The title track was inspired by his friend and mentor John Prine, and throughout he blends wit and pathos with striking economy.

The journey weaves live intuitive guidance attuned to the group, precision‑crafted 9D soundscapes with 360 degree spatial audio, and affirmation layering that encourages inner change.
