    Blind Boys of Alabama

Waterville · Waterville Opera House, 1 Common St

The Blind Boys of Alabama, widely recognized as legends of gospel music, bring the fervor and uplift that have earned them top honors including Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Recording Academy, six Grammy wins, and a place in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Their repertoire bridges traditional gospel with inspired spiritual interpretations of songs by Eric Clapton, Prince, and Tom Waits, and they have recorded alongside artists such as Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Aaron Neville, Susan Tedeschi, Ben Harper, Patty Griffin, and Taj Mahal. Their latest album, Echoes Of The South, recorded in Muscle Shoals, traces a path of perseverance from singing for pocket change in the Jim Crow South to performances for three American presidents, a voice for the Civil Rights movement, and a defining influence on modern gospel. The album earned three Grammy nominations and won Best Roots Gospel Album. Recent accolades also include nominations for collaborations with Béla Fleck and with Black Violin. Their story is captured in the book Spirit of the Century, created with band members and key musical collaborators, with major media features including The View highlighting their enduring impact. Tickets are priced at $45 to $55, all sales are final, and this event qualifies for the Youth Arts Access Fund.
