Mount Hope Cemetery Walking Tour

Explore surprising stories of Bangor’s notable and notorious residents on a guided walk through Mount Hope Cemetery. Learn how symbols carved into headstones convey meaning, and take in views that showcase the city’s scenery. Established in 1834 and covering 300 acres, Mount Hope is the second-oldest garden cemetery in the United States. It was designed by Charles G. Bryant during a national movement to create green havens within otherwise barren urban settings, places intended for the living as well as those remembered there. The tour meets at the Superintendent’s Lodge inside Mount Hope Cemetery. Tickets are $12 per person and must be purchased in advance. Attendance is limited to 25 guests. Tours will be cancelled if thunderstorms are likely, while rain alone does not prompt cancellation. Rogan’s Memorials is the sponsor for this tour.

Outside with Pride - June Rainbow Ramblers

Now in its second year, Outside with Pride invites participants to explore queer ecology on a guided walk at Walden-Parke Preserve with Maine Master Naturalist Nola Prevost. The group will discuss how animals, plants, and fungi express diversity in sexuality and gender, with examples that include same-sex pairing in rams and gulls and gender variance observed in deer. Conversation will touch on the broader scientific understanding of this diversity, including perspectives shared by author Bruce Bagemihl, while the walk highlights how these patterns appear in local ecosystems. Wear sturdy footwear and come prepared for outdoor conditions in any weather, including rain. This program is free and open to the public, and advance registration is required. Performance Track: Matilda the Musical

Adapted from Roald Dahl’s book, this musical centers on Matilda Wormwood, a remarkable child who uses sharp thinking, imagination, and a hint of telekinesis to stand up to unfairness at home and at school. Along the way are memorable figures like the kind Miss Honey, the menacing Miss Trunchbull, and classmates who are just as quick-witted as Matilda. Every camper is part of the cast. Eco Creations Camp invites young eco-artists to craft original artwork and small garden projects using recycled and natural materials. Through daily conversations about sustainability and plenty of hands-on making, campers learn how ordinary objects can spark big ideas and how their creativity can benefit the world around them. As part of the Creative Explorers Specialty Camp series, this experience encourages young chefs, artists, inventors, and makers to try new skills, discover new interests, and grow confidence through imaginative projects. Under the Strawberry Moon, this participatory fire and drumming ceremony centers on harvest, gratitude, abundance, and the wisdom gained through life’s journey. Inspired by a recent full moon gathering that fostered meaningful connections, the circle comes together again to honor ancient ways, the spirit of the land, and supportive ancestral energies while creating space for release and renewal. The experience weaves together a fire ceremony with drumming and rhythm, sacred smoke and clear intention, attunement to moon energy and higher awareness, and time for authentic community connection. Attendees are encouraged to let go of what no longer serves and to activate energy for healing, manifestation, transformation, and new possibilities. Furball Festival is a community celebration that benefits The Animal Orphanage, blending compassion, friendly rivalry, and plenty of four-legged fun. Binette Park is pet-friendly and wheelchair accessible. Another day features the Badge vs. Badge Softball Tournament at OTLL K.C. Explore the real-world settings that inspired Stephen King’s fictional town of Derry on a guided tour of Bangor, Maine with Historically Haunted Tours. The route weaves together literary history, film locations, local lore, and haunted tales, including Stephen King’s house, the storm drain and other sites tied to IT, original Pet Sematary filming locations, and Mount Hope Cemetery, one of the nation’s oldest and most notable garden cemeteries. Along the way, hear stories of Bangor’s haunted past and the legend of Maine’s Ghost Train, then visit a local spot known to be frequented by King that displays a movie prop from the 2017 adaptation of IT. The tour sets out from the Bangor Mall Cinema parking lot on the south side of the mall and runs approximately four hours. A brief wrap-up at the end shares links and additional information about the places visited. All Star Prep & Elite Cheer Team Tryouts

Athletes interested in competitive cheer can attend tryouts hosted by the Old Town - Orono YMCA to form All Star Elite and Prep teams for the 2026 to 2027 season. Evaluations are for Levels 1, 2, and 3, with teams set to compete across New England while pursuing bids that could lead to events in Maryland or Florida. Families can expect two two-hour practices each week, five to eight competitions and showcases during the season, and opportunities to participate in team fundraising. The program emphasizes solid cheer fundamentals, confidence building, leadership, and communication, supported by coaches who foster a safe and encouraging environment for a wide range of ages and skill levels. Tryouts take place at the Cyr Family Fieldhouse at the Old Town - Orono YMCA, and a signing day with a mandatory parent meeting will follow. Developmental Swim Camp

Enjoy four days of summer training and play at a developmental swim camp that builds strong fundamentals and highlights the fun side of competitive swimming. Kids who are new to the sport as well as those already on a team can expect energetic coaching, focused technique work, engaging drills, dryland games, and team building that keeps them active and learning. The program at Canoe City emphasizes confidence, consistency, strength, and capability, while also nurturing character, communication, and leadership. It is also a friendly setting to make new friends and experience what it means to be part of a team. Participants must be able to pass the Old Town - Orono YMCA Deep End Test and swim 25 yards each of freestyle and backstroke. Membership in CCSC is not required, all athletes are welcome. Pricing is $150 for Old Town - Orono YMCA members and $225 for nonmembers, with a $50 discount available for early registration before the new year.

Imagination Unleashed Camp invites young artists to explore texture, color, technique, and movement through clay, paint, tie-dye, pastels, chalk, and other creative media. Each day brings new prompts that turn big ideas into original artwork, encouraging every child to showcase a personal style and perspective. This camp is part of the Creative Explorers Specialty Camp series, which supports budding chefs, artists, inventors, and makers as they bring imaginative projects to life. Activities are hands-on and tailored to age and skill level, with encouraging staff who foster self-expression, curiosity, and confidence. Designed for ages 5 to 10. Tuition is $180, and families with an Old Town - Orono YMCA Family Membership receive a $50 discount on Creative Explorers camps.

The Wilson Center at UMaine

Queer Hangout

A relaxed hangout for the queer community at The Wilson Center at UMaine offers a comfortable place to keep the spirit of Pride alive, spend time with community, and be yourself. Settle in with a book, try a craft, break out a board game, or simply chat. The pace is low-key and shaped by what participants want to do together. The building has an ADA accessible entrance. Wheelchair users who enter through the lower entrance will need to exit, go up a hill, and re-enter at a different entrance to access the restrooms. An ASL interpreter will not be available. Designed for cheerleaders 6 and older, this summer camp focuses on building confidence with existing abilities and developing new techniques in tumbling and jump skills. The cost is $100 for members and $150 for guests. Register in 2025 to secure this pricing.

High Performance Camp

CCSC’s High Performance Camp offers a focused, four day training experience for swimmers ready to elevate their performance. Advanced age group and senior athletes train together with an experienced coaching team, combining focused pool work on technique and drills, structured dryland sessions, challenging sets, and interactive mindset training to build strength, resilience, and disciplined habits. The Canoe City approach emphasizes confidence, consistency, strength, and capability, while team challenges reinforce communication, leadership, and mental skills for success in the water and in the community. This camp is designed for athletes 11 and older who are committed to refining technique, increasing training intensity, and sharpening their competitive edge, and CCSC membership is not required. Pricing is $215 for Old Town - Orono YMCA members and $350 for other athletes, with a $75 discount available for registrations completed before the New Year.

Champion the Cure Challenge Walk | Run | Cycle

Champion the Cure Challenge unites the community to walk, run, or cycle in support of people affected by cancer. Participants can choose walking or running routes of 1K, 5K, or 10K, and cycling options of 12, 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles. Organized by Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center, it is presented as the area’s only large cancer fundraiser that keeps all funds raised within the community. Since 2010, thousands have gathered with a shared purpose to support loved ones in treatment, honor survivors, remember those lost, and foster hope close to home.

Champion the Cure Challenge Motorcycle Ride

Part of the 2026 Champion the Cure Challenge, this motorcycle ride brings the community together to support friends and family in treatment, honor survivors, remember loved ones lost, and share hope. Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Champion the Cure Challenge is the only major local cancer fundraiser that keeps every dollar raised in the community. Since 2010, thousands in the community have gathered each year with a shared purpose to support loved ones facing cancer. The ride offers a way to enjoy the open road while standing with neighbors who have faced cancer. Registration is followed by a safety meeting, then kickstands go up and the ride rolls out.

4th Annual Ride to Remember

The 4th Annual Ride to Remember brings the community together to honor those lost and those still living with Alzheimer’s disease. Participants will start at the Old Town Elks Lodge and follow a scenic route along Route 16 to Milo, then continue on Route 11 to Millinocket. There will be a pause at the Millinocket Lodge before heading out on 157, connecting to 116 toward the Lincoln Tap House. The return leg follows Route 2 back to the Old Town Elks Lodge for a celebration. Participation is by donation only.
