Jewel Orchid Paint + Sip

Set in the lush indoor jungle at Vine, this paint and sip experience welcomes all skill levels to relax with art and a favorite beverage. Local artist Shay Estvold leads a step-by-step session focused on Macodes petola, the Lightning Jewel Orchid, known for its radiant, lightning-like veins and compact form. The method is broken into easy stages so everyone can succeed. Attendees will prepare a canvas, trace the orchid, and build up color in a style similar to color by numbers. All supplies are included, from paints and brushes to canvases and aprons. Participants may bring their own drinks, and cups, ice, and light snacks are provided. Everyone departs with a finished artwork to gift or display, along with a jewel orchid to grow at home.

Kevin Fedarko in Conversation with Chandra Brown

Kevin Fedarko joins Chandra Brown for a conversation centered on his writing and his book A Walk in the Park. For more than two decades, Fedarko has focused on conservation, exploration, and the Grand Canyon, with previous roles at Time and Outside and work published in National Geographic, The New York Times, and Esquire. He is the author of The Emerald Mile and A Walk in the Park, both of which became New York Times bestsellers and earned a National Outdoor Book Award. The Emerald Mile also received the Reading the West Book Award, and A Walk in the Park was honored with the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction. A Walk in the Park follows an ambitious plan Fedarko undertook with National Geographic photographer Pete McBride to traverse the Grand Canyon from end to end with almost no preparation. What began as a bold idea turned into an ordeal lasting more than a year, unfolding in a near pathless, vertical wilderness where water can be painfully scarce and every move carries risk. Along their route, experienced long-distance hikers revealed hidden pockets far from the rim, and members of the canyon’s eleven Native American tribes shared histories that challenged familiar park narratives and underscored the pressures of commercial tourism. Personal reflections, including those tied to Fedarko’s father, deepen the story, while the canyon’s severe beauty shapes a narrative that ultimately urges protection of a singular American landscape.

This full-day, hands-on workshop for middle and high school students explores where art and science meet, led by artist and naturalist Timber Green of TLG Art. Students observe live insects and insect specimens up close, focusing on pollinators, then turn careful observation into accurate drawings that highlight structure, texture, and fine detail. Step-by-step guidance introduces methods used by professional scientific illustrators, helping participants build essential skills while connecting creativity with scientific inquiry. Hybrid Mindful Recovery

Created in partnership by the Red Willow Learning Center and Missoula’s 4th D Club, this hybrid program makes it possible to build a consistent mindfulness practice either in person or online. The Aurora Project

Presented by A Quantum Dream, this play by Bella Poynton follows Constantine, an advanced android so humanlike he could pass as one, and Nora, his genetically modified partner, on an interstellar voyage. When Nora is stricken with a lethal virus, Constantine chooses to place her in cryofreeze until a civilization can be found with the knowledge to cure her, a quest that may stretch across unimaginable spans of time. The story explores love, autonomy, loss, survival, and what endures through the ages. Staged for one weekend only at the Zootown Arts Community Center, this 100 minute production offers six performances with both evening and matinee options. General admission tickets range from $15 to $25. Audio description for blind and low vision patrons is available at every performance with advance notice appreciated. Open captions are provided at select shows and may be requested for others. ASL interpretation is TBA. The ZACC is a wheelchair friendly venue.

Missoula Watch Party: USA v Türkiye Game 3

US Soccer supporters in Montana come together for a World Cup watch party as the United States takes on Türkiye in the third match. The Thomas Meagher Bar will show the game on all screens with sound throughout the venue. Some sections may be limited to standing space, so arriving early is recommended to secure a spot. She frames the craft as a practice that stands opposite to destruction, centered on making, connection, and what sustains life. Alongside her work, visitors can experience Jennifer Leutzinger’s Pershing Avenue, where large-scale quilts translate memory, nostalgia, and personal history into lively textile landscapes. Handcrafted from many pieces, Leutzinger’s quilts showcase how small fragments can come together to form something deeply personal and uniquely her own.

Superhero Night with the Missoula PaddleHeads

At Ogren Park at Allegiance Field, the Brain Injury Alliance of Montana teams up with the Missoula PaddleHeads for a Superhero Night that honors the brain injury community, including survivors, caregivers, families, and supporters. Specialty PaddleHeads superhero jerseys will be featured, and guests are welcome to dress as their favorite superheroes. The atmosphere is family friendly, with recognition of survivors and families and a focus on community awareness and celebration. The first 300 children through the gates receive one green-themed giveaway while supplies last, which may include a BIAMT superhero cape, a glow stick, or a glow bracelet. Special $5 general admission tickets are available. Each ticket helps raise awareness across Montana and supports the programs and services of the Brain Injury Alliance of Montana, celebrating everyday heroes throughout the stadium.

Author Patricia J. Gallegos will present a reading and book signing for her debut novel, The View from My Window, with a separate sidewalk signing also offered. The story centers on Willow, a lifelong apprentice to a renowned shaman, who comes of age as a long-anticipated upheaval begins. Rising hostility toward her Romani community forces her people to scatter, wagons are destroyed, and their trading livelihood becomes perilous. When marauders return and someone close to her is attacked, Willow’s training concludes and she assumes the responsibilities of lead shaman. She undertakes a journey to an unfamiliar land to tend to a gravely ill sovereign. Skilled in healing yet untested in matters of the heart, she confronts a forbidden romance at court that could jeopardize everything while the well-being of her people rests on her decisions. Gallegos is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine who teaches and practices Traditional Chinese Medicine in Portland, Oregon, and she is known as the intuitive Shen Whisperer, also called She Who Sees Inside the Spirit.

The session includes an introduction to the Taoist Five Element perspective along with Qigong traditions and longevity practices, with movements selected to align with the energy of the Summer season. The practice also features the Healing Sounds and the Inner Smile meditation to help release the past while nurturing kindness from within. Please bring a yoga mat to stand on, a water bottle, and comfortable clothing that allows free movement. Home ReSource, in partnership with Missoula Public Health, offers an ongoing program for collecting, reusing, and safely disposing of household chemicals for the Missoula community. This service helps keep hazardous materials out of local groundwater and the landfill. It is limited to residential drop offs only and cannot accept waste from businesses or schools. Each visit is capped at 10 gallons. A $20 non-refundable fee covers up to 10 gallons per drop off, and if the cost creates a hardship, you can contact the program beforehand to explore options. Please review the accepted materials guide before arranging a drop off so you know what can be brought in.

Enjoy a lively evening of big band music with the Ed Norton Big Band in The Show Room at the Zootown Arts Community Center. Lindy Hop dance lessons are offered for anyone who wants to learn some steps before hitting the floor. This event is open to all ages. Founded around 1987 after trombonists Tom Wogsland and Scot Ray performed in the pit for Missoula Children’s Theatre’s first production of The 1940’s Radio Hour and decided to keep playing, this 18-piece ensemble brings together Missoula musicians from multiple generations and is a fixture of traditional and modern big band sounds across western Montana. The group has entertained at community happenings such as Out to Lunch, Second Sunday Jazz, First Night, fundraisers, and birthday parties. Ticket options include general admission, a bundle with a dance lesson, and artist supporter levels.

At the Fort Missoula Native Plant Garden, volunteers support garden care by weeding, transplanting plants out of walkways, and pruning shrubs. Learn to craft a willow pack basket in a three-day, hands-on course that blends traditional technique with everyday usefulness. Create a sturdy basket that protects your belongings from being crushed and keeps gear from poking your back, all while making a functional piece of art you can use regularly. You will explore three time-tested weaving methods from ancient Europe that work for any basket size, learn how to find and harvest willow and compare wild and farm-raised sources, and practice basic leatherwork while making comfortable straps. All materials are provided. The plan begins with a morning discussion on sourcing and harvesting willow, guidelines for working with it, and starting the basket base, followed by an afternoon finishing the bases and building the lower half. The second day is devoted to weaving and completing the pack with a finished rim, with opportunities to help others if you finish early. On the final day you will add a foot to your basket, make the straps, and wrap up with a group photo of everyone’s completed work. The cost is $450. To reserve a spot, a deposit of $225 is required. This kid-first tournament in Missoula, Montana emphasizes longer, more meaningful games. Each matchup is scheduled for a minimum of 1 hour 40 minutes, and when the clock hits, the current inning is played to completion...there is no drop-dead rule. Games often extend to five or six innings, so even players at the bottom of the lineup can expect multiple trips to the plate. All games are held at Fort Missoula, regarded as one of the finest facilities for many miles around. On the final day, teams are placed into four-team brackets that begin with semifinals, with half the field advancing to the final. Fort Missoula Regional Park hosts a week-long international soccer camp experience close to home, led by a team of coaches from abroad and from the United States. Half-day and full-day options use age-appropriate activities so players can progress at a comfortable pace, pick up new skills, and grow into more complete players while enjoying time with the international coaching staff. The curriculum also weaves in lessons on responsibility, integrity, respect, sportsmanship, and leadership. Every participant receives a soccer ball, a jersey, and a certificate, with additional incentives available for early registration.

Full Moon Tantric Latihan

Experience a guided session in Tantric Latihan, a practice with roots in the Indonesian Subud tradition that emphasizes surrendering to inner guidance through spontaneous movement, dance, and unplanned sounds. Movement remains voluntary yet arises naturally, inviting the body to lead instead of the mind. A central segment is done with eyes closed for about 30 minutes so inner energy can flow without mental control, and a blindfold may be used to reduce distractions and deepen felt awareness. No prior training is required, and each participant explores the practice in a way that is uniquely their own. Many people find it supports the release of stuck energy and emotional blockages, nurtures self-understanding and intimacy with others, reconnects mind, feelings, and body, awakens intuition, and encourages authenticity beyond social conditioning. It can help unwind restrictive patterns and nurture a lived sense of connection with oneself, with others, and with Source. Expect to slow down. In a shared space, participants are invited to let go of desires, thoughts, and expectations, wait for inner movement or vibration to arise on its own, and surrender to personal guidance and the present moment. This approach often opens the door to releasing emotional holding, embracing vulnerability, and meeting one’s authentic self. To prepare, wear comfortable, loose clothing and bring a water bottle. Yoga mats and blankets are available at the venue. Bringing a journal for reflections afterward is optional. Arriving a bit early can make it easier to settle in and clarify intentions for the workshop.

Plans include Downtown ToNight at Caras Park with food trucks, a carousel, and a playground, time to explore the Missoula Public Library, indoor swimming at Currents Aquatic Center, a community cookout, a picnic and play at Greenough Park, a collaborative art project, pizza and playtime at Highlander Beer, and a farewell brunch. Montana Shakespeare in the Parks presents two evenings of live theater at the University of Montana, featuring The Merchant of Venice on one night followed by Much Ado About Nothing the next. Admission is free and seating is available in the order guests arrive, so coming early is recommended. Please place tall chairs toward the back so those on blankets or in low chairs have a clear view. Picnics are welcome. The planned setting is The Oval on campus, with a move to the Ballroom if weather requires it.
