Advanced Pistol Class

Built for shooters who have completed Basic and Intermediate Pistol at CCGCI or can safely and proficiently draw and fire, this advanced class at Central Carolina Gun Club, Inc. focuses on clearing malfunctions and running failure drills, shooting from varied positions such as kneeling and using cover, and working strong-hand-only and support-hand-only. Timed exercises are included to build speed and consistency, with the aim of sharpening current skills and laying the groundwork for future training. Firearms and magazines must arrive unloaded and secured in a case before entering the class. Bring the handgun you want to train with, preferably a full or compact double-stack model such as Glock, SIG, or S&W. Subcompacts like the S&W Shield, Glock 43, or Sig 365 can be used, though expect more frequent reloads. A revolver is permitted but not ideal. If a micro compact such as an S&W Bodyguard or Ruger LCP is your only option, contact the instructor in advance to discuss use and alternatives. A sturdy belt and a secure holster are required, with Kydex preferred and no SERPA or nylon holsters allowed. Pack at least two magazines and 300 rounds of factory ammunition, with 9 mm or larger preferred, and bring what functions reliably in your pistol. Eye and ear protection are mandatory, along with closed-toe, supportive footwear. Dress for outdoor conditions and wear a closed-collar shirt or a scarf to keep hot brass off your skin. Bring note-taking materials, plus water and snacks, with breaks taken as needed. The class fee is 25 dollars to offset target costs. This is a CCGCI-sponsored shooter education class for club members, and non-members may also attend for 75 dollars, paid to Zev Firearms and Tactical Training, LLC. Payment can be made online or in person on the day of class.

Coffee & Conversation: Birds of Alamance County - From Backyard Feeders to Trail Finds

Explore the birds of Alamance County in a Coffee & Conversation program that moves from backyard feeders to discoveries on local trails. Retired Guilford College biology professor Dr. Lynn Moseley shares guidance on identifying birds, practical ways to attract species to backyard spaces, and insights into local Bluebird Trail initiatives, along with ideas for getting outdoors with both new and experienced birders. Her background includes studies at the College of William & Mary, a Ph.D. in zoology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill focused on the behavior and communication of nesting Least Terns along the North Carolina coast, and 33 years of teaching at Guilford College with birding expeditions to the Galápagos Islands and East Africa. In retirement she continues to lead occasional birding trips and conducts annual surveys for state and federal organizations, while also spending time with her family and two grandchildren. The program also offers opportunities to connect with local recreation and parks staff about birding hotspots, scenic trails, lakes, and outdoor programs throughout the area. Coffee, light refreshments, and conversation create a welcoming setting for sharing sightings, tips, and favorite locations. Designed for adults of all ages, this free event takes place at the Graham Civic Center, and online registration is requested. Presented as part of the Coffee & Conversation series by the Graham and Burlington Recreation & Parks Departments, the session highlights ways to explore stretches of the Haw River Trail in Alamance County with binoculars in hand.
