"By the People" Music from the Old North State

An in-person program at the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, presented by NC Humanities and the Hall of Fame, spotlights the rock traditions of the North Carolina Piedmont. The program features music demonstrations and a conversation with singer-songwriter Hope Nicholls and music writer and historian Daniel Coston, highlighting sounds that reflect the state's vibrant culture and a strong sense of community. This event is part of By the People: Music from the Old North State, a series that explores North Carolina’s music heritage in collaboration with partners including Arts of the Albemarle, the Earl Scruggs Center, and the NC Music Hall of Fame. It also connects to By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, a community-driven initiative of humanities councils and local partners nationwide, developed by the Federation of State Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage as a complement to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

Glass & Resin on Painted Wood

Explore mixed media on wood as you craft a beach scene from start to finish. Paint a peaceful shoreline with a boat, then add texture and shine with real sand, glass accents, and a high-gloss resin finish. Complete the piece with seashells for a coastal touch. You are welcome to bring your own shells if you prefer.
