Ayurvedic Chronobiology for Vibrant Health

Explore how aligning everyday habits with nature’s timing can foster vibrant health. This workshop introduces Ayurvedic chronobiology, highlighting how internal clocks and daily rhythms shape sleep, hormone flow, metabolism, digestion, body temperature, and blood pressure. Learn how a master clock in the brain helps keep the whole system in sync through signals influenced by light, and how disrupted timing can ripple into mood shifts, low energy, and broader imbalances. The session looks at how misalignment may relate to challenges such as weight gain, blood sugar issues, anxiety or low mood, sleep difficulties, seasonal blues, respiratory concerns, digestive discomfort, and neurological strain. Practical guidance focuses on building a daily routine that works with the six parts of the day, using your body’s timing to support healthy weight, cultivating deep restorative sleep, choosing foods and movement that fit your constitution, adjusting gracefully with the seasons, and calming the fight or flight response. The format includes discussion and simple movement, and a detailed handout is provided for continued support. Led by Lisa Moore, Ayurvedic Practitioner and Yoga Therapist. The fee is $80. Continuing education credit is available for Registered Yoga Teachers.

Special Day of Mindfulness: Art of Mindful Tea Blending & Nature Walk

Take a restorative pause from everyday busyness to reconnect with your senses, the plants, and the quiet rhythms of nature. This gentle mindfulness gathering invites a slower pace, steady breaths, and the art of mindful tea blending within a supportive community. The experience begins in circle with a brief meditation to arrive in the body and settle into presence. A silent, attentive walk follows through the natural landscape, inviting you to listen to the wind, feel the ground beneath your feet, and notice the subtle ways the world communicates. Returning to circle, participants explore a selection of herbal allies. With simple sensory guidance through touch and scent, each person creates a personal tea blend. The group then prepares the teas and shares a calm tea ceremony, learning about the qualities of the plants and enjoying the nourishment of slowing down and reflecting together. No experience is required. Come as you are, with curiosity and a willingness to move gently. The facilitator, Shawn, founder of Anam Cara Path, offers a grounded, intuitive presence and creates a safe, supportive space for connection and mindful exploration, sharing plant wisdom and ritual to guide the process. This program is offered by donation, with a suggested contribution of 15 to 45. Contributions support the facilitator, materials, and the continuation of this work. Memoirist Tom Junod in Conversation Tommy Tomlinson

Memoirist and journalist Tom Junod sits down with author Tommy Tomlinson for an in-person conversation about Junod’s new book, In the Days of My Youth I Was Told What It Means to Be a Man. This free gathering centers on the story behind the memoir and the life that shaped it. Junod, a two-time National Magazine Award winner, James Beard Award winner, and Emmy nominee, is known for landmark pieces such as The Falling Man, My Father’s Fashion Tips, and his deeply personal profile of Fred Rogers that inspired the film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. The discussion explores Junod’s complex bond with his father, Big Lou, a charismatic figure whose larger-than-life presence and unapologetic pursuit of glamour left a lasting imprint. Spurred by a moment at his father’s funeral, Junod embarked on years of reporting, interviewing sources, speaking with several of his father’s companions, and combing through letters, photos, home movies, and a pivotal autopsy report. What emerges is both an investigation and a meditation on manhood, family secrets, and the cost of inherited myths. The book traces how confronting difficult truths reshaped Junod’s understanding of his past and helped rebuild family ties on a foundation of honesty. The memoir is now available. Tommy Tomlinson, author of The Elephant in the Room and Dogland, guides the conversation. His work has appeared in publications such as Esquire, The Atlantic, ESPN the Magazine, and Southern Living, and he is a Pulitzer Prize finalist in commentary known for insightful storytelling and thoughtful interviews.

Yugioh Edison Wednesday 6:30pm

This event centers on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Edison Format at Get Some Game. Built around the environment from the April 2010 Shonen Jump Championship in Edison, New Jersey, it recreates that era’s rules, card pool, and restrictions for a nostalgic and balanced style of play. Deck construction draws from all releases through Absolute Powerforce and the Machina Mayhem Structure Deck, and it follows the March 2010 Forbidden and Limited List that defined competition at the time. Gameplay highlights the early Synchro period, with options that include cards such as Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier and Drill Warrior. Tribute-focused plans remain viable, with Treeborn Frog and Cyber Dragon powering Monarch strategies. The format rewards variety, with competitive choices that include Blackwing, Lightsworn, Zombie, Quickdraw Plant, Frog Monarch, and HERO variants. No single strategy overwhelms the field, which encourages creative deckbuilding and thoughtful decision making. The broader community actively supports Edison through tournaments, deck galleries, and leader boards, and Konami features it within Time Wizard events for those interested in revisiting classic gameplay.

Tommy Hays Discusses His New Book The Marriage Bed with Judy Goldman

Tommy Hays presents a reading and conversation about his new novel The Marriage Bed with Judy Goldman during an in-store event. This is a free program, and copies are available from the store. The story opens with a shocking turn that follows a painful revelation, exposing the heart of a marriage and leaving a husband to face the consequences. Asa Flowers, who teaches poetry at a small college in Asheville, North Carolina, comes home on a stormy night to find his wife Betsy in deep distress. A bitter argument leads him to sleep in their garage apartment for the first time in twenty five years together. Morning brings clear skies and a changed reality. Spanning a few taut weeks and told through multiple perspectives, the novel explores how one tragedy is understood differently by everyone it affects. Asa struggles with conflicted feelings about his marriage and with the challenges of relating to his adult children. As long hidden truths emerge, he is pulled toward a future that asks him to shed parts of his old identity in order to go on and, most importantly, to recommit to being a father. Hays is an acclaimed Southern author whose fiction is rooted in places he has called home, including Greenville, South Carolina, Asheville, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia. His previous books include The Pleasure Was Mine, In the Family Way, Sam’s Crossing, and What I Came to Tell You. Honors include induction into the South Carolina Academy of Authors and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, and he is the retired executive director of the Great Smokies Writing Program at UNC Asheville. Judy Goldman is the author of eight books across memoir, fiction, and poetry. Her recent memoir The Rest of Our Lives was a finalist for North Carolina Reads and was named a best seller by the Southern Independent Booksellers Association. Her memoir Child was selected as a Katie Couric Media Must Read for 2022 and was a finalist for the Southern Book Award in Nonfiction. Together was named a best book of 2019 by Real Simple, chosen as an Amazon Editors’ Pick, and recognized as Book of the Month by Our State. Her work has appeared in USA Today, the Washington Post, Real Simple, LitHub, Our State, the Charlotte Observer, and in literary journals including The Southern Review, Gettysburg Review, Ohio Review, Kenyon Review, Black Warrior Review, Prairie Schooner, and Shenandoah.

Charlotte Relateful Immersion, May 29-31, 2026

A multi-day Relateful Immersion focused on practicing presence in relationships. Participants slow down and explore what is unfolding in real time, moving from talking about connection to embodying it. The practice blends honesty with care so authenticity and belonging can deepen together. Sessions rotate between full-group circles, small groups, and pairs, with an emphasis on sensing experience through body, heart, mind, and awareness. Activities include naming what is happening moment to moment, trying on others’ perspectives, relaxing control to see what emerges, and practicing love and truth in live conversation. Everyone sets their own pace, with no pressure to perform or share beyond personal boundaries. The space is framed as brave rather than guaranteed safe, inviting challenge and ease as equal nutrients for growth. All emotions are welcome without hierarchy, and honest expression is balanced with attunement to impact. Facilitators may pause or redirect to support mindful connection. This is not therapy or a group healing session, it is a collective exploration of truth, love, and awareness. Held at Greatwoods Zen, a Plum Village style community center surrounded by nature and grounded in mindfulness, the immersion is co-facilitated by James Dial of Relateful Charlotte and Valerie Daniel, Managing Director of The Relateful Company. Their long-standing collaboration is known for clarity, courageous care, and mutual respect. Participants often leave feeling more alive and grounded, more fully seen, with greater access to embodied expression in daily life and with renewed courage that softens old either-or assumptions about connection.
