Repair Café

Repair Café at Innovation Barn offers a free, hands-on community repair experience where neighbors work together to fix broken household items, build basic DIY skills, and keep usable goods out of the landfill. Participants collaborate with experienced volunteer repair coaches who help diagnose issues and guide repairs, and no prior repair experience is required. Bring your items and plan to stay with them for the entire process since this is a collaborative session, not a drop-off service. Volunteers bring tools and have experience across many common household fixes. Some replacement parts may be available, though not all repairs can be completed on the spot. If a specialty part is needed, the item can be brought back to a future Repair Café once the part is obtained. Safety guidelines apply. Hazardous or dangerous items are not accepted, including firearms and microwaves. Volunteers are skilled community repairers rather than licensed specialists, and highly specialized needs such as fine art restoration should be handled by a professional. Everyone must remain with their item during the repair. Those interested in serving as volunteer repair coaches can email charlotte@repaircafenc.org. Sun & Ski Sports - Charlotte Group Ride

This weather-dependent group ride sets out from the Sun & Ski Sports Charlotte store and welcomes cyclists of all experience levels. The route rolls through South Charlotte, Waxhaw, Marvin, and into Lancaster County, offering a mix of terrain and sections that share the road with urban traffic. Multiple pace groups head out in short intervals so participants can choose the speed and distance that fit best, ranging from advanced efforts with no planned regroup to steady intermediate options that include a rest stop and occasional regrouping. A beginner-friendly, no-drop option at a conversational pace may be added when leaders and interest are confirmed. Before the rollout, the store opens for restroom access, quick purchases, and basic mechanical help, with last minute essentials available for credit card purchase. The ride focuses on fitness, skill building, and camaraderie within the cycling community. Helmets are required. Road bikes are strongly recommended, and front and rear lights, along with glasses and gloves, are encouraged. Riders are responsible for their own hydration and nutrition, should know basic fixes such as flat repair and brake adjustments, and are expected to understand the route or have it loaded to a device in case of separation. Ride predictably, keep at least one hand on the bars at all times, and never cross the yellow line. Carry a cell phone and emergency contact information for unexpected situations. Cycling carries inherent risks, and each participant is solely responsible for personal safety before, during, and after the ride.

Sun & Ski Sports - Charlotte Group Ride

A weekly, weather-dependent group ride rolls out from Sun & Ski Sports in Charlotte and covers rolling terrain through South Charlotte, Waxhaw, Marvin, and into Lancaster County, South Carolina. Riders of all experience levels are welcome, and groups depart in waves based on pace and distance. Advanced riders tackle roughly 35 to 42 miles at a 20 mph or faster average and this group is a true drop ride with no regroup and no planned rest stop. A fast intermediate option averages 18 to 19 mph with tight pacelines, one rest stop, and limited regrouping, and may be a drop ride. A steady option covers about 27 miles at 16 to 17 mph with pacelines, one rest stop, and several regroup points, operating as a semi-drop. An intermediate choice at about 27 or 35 miles averages 17 to 18 mph with a similar format. A beginner-friendly pace around 14 to 16 mph for approximately 27 miles focuses on conversation, endurance, and skills, includes one rest stop, and follows a no-drop approach when a leader and sufficient interest are confirmed. The ride emphasizes community, fitness, and support for personal goals. Participants are expected to arrive prepared with a road bike in safe working order, a helmet, hydration and nutrition, a cell phone with an emergency contact, and the ability to handle basic fixes like a flat tire or simple brake adjustments. Knowing the route or having it loaded on a device is important in case of separation. Use lights when appropriate, consider protective eyewear and gloves, follow traffic laws, stay on the correct side of the centerline, and keep at least one hand on the bars at all times. Sections of the route mix with vehicle traffic, so ride with caution. Store restrooms, quick mechanical help, and limited last-minute purchases by card may be available before the rollout.
