The 19th running of the Power of Pink 5K takes place in Frog Level in Waynesville, featuring a community-focused day of running, walking, and fundraising to expand access to care. Since its creation, the event has raised over $200,000, providing 1,975 mammograms and follow up procedures to more than 1,000 men and women in Haywood County. Online registration is offered, and walk-up registration is anticipated on race day, though shirts may be limited. The goal is to keep growing participation to help even more people in the area.

This outing covers about eight miles roundtrip on Bradley Fork Trail, following a creek for much of the way and passing a few waterfalls. The route offers the steady sound of moving water and calm creek views, and it travels on a wide, well maintained gravel path with a gradual incline. The first stretch is shared with horses. Campgrounds are located near the trailhead and around the midpoint of the trail. The hike begins inside Smokemont Campground at the far end of D Loop. This month’s 4-H Horse Club session continues the monthly series that runs March through October, blending a hands-on unmounted activity with learning about breeds, equipment, and horse care. The focus for September includes Warmbloods, an introduction to bits, an overview of basic first aid, and practice with backing. Participation is free for youth ages 5 to 18 who are enrolled through 4-H Online. Questions about registration can be directed to county agent Sally Dixon.
