August Artist Reception - Greg Yochum

An artist reception highlights Nebraska artist and educator Gregory Yochum, whose Intermedia practice spans painting, printmaking, drawing, and mixed media. Raised in Holdrege and a graduate of HHS, he earned a BAE from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and an MFA from Fort Hays State University, and has exhibited across Nebraska and Kansas in solo shows including "Pain and Grace" and "Conversations." His work explores the meeting point of the sacred and the secular, using expressive portraiture to spark visual dialogues that cross time and genre. Subjects of profound spiritual and cultural significance appear together, from the crucified Christ and the Virgin Mary to cultural legends like Batman and Superman, inviting recognition of shared experiences of suffering, transcendence, and aspiration. The exhibition is on view at Lost Way, with a special reception to celebrate the artist and this body of work. Support is provided by the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

At Lost Way Brewery in Holdrege, this hands-on workshop guides participants through creating a custom epoxy river charcuterie board or a lazy susan. Each piece begins with premium black walnut and other quality hardwoods, then gets a personalized touch with up to two epoxy colors selected on site. After the session, projects cure for about a week before entering a careful finishing process that typically takes 8 to 10 weeks, with timing influenced by class size and shipping logistics. Finished pieces are shipped to attendees once complete. All ticket sales are final. If you cannot attend, you may send someone in your place. An Evening with George Lundeen

An art-focused evening in downtown Holdrege’s Iron Horse Arts District features Holdrege native and internationally recognized sculptor George Lundeen of Lundeen Sculpture. Attendees will find hors d'oeuvres, a presentation by George, and a curated display of his sculptures at the new Iron Horse Art Gallery. Admission is $25 per person, and capacity is limited to 50 tickets. Tickets can be purchased in person at the gallery office or online.

Let's Go Birding Together Bird Walk

An inclusive Let’s Go Birding Together bird walk welcomes LGBTQ+ community members, allies, families, and anyone who enjoys birds and the outdoors. The outing begins at the Iain Nicolson Audubon Center and covers about a half mile on Rowe Sanctuary trails, offering a relaxed pace along the Platte River with tips for identifying local birds and taking in the sounds and sights of Nebraska’s summer birdlife. This free event encourages registration. For comfort and safety, consider wearing long pants and closed toe shoes and bringing a hat, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

Enjoy an outdoor concert on JB's Outdoor Patio. Tickets are $10 cash at the door, and capacity is limited to 300, so arrive early and bring a lawn chair. Premium parking next to the concert becomes available when doors open. JB's will be open for supper, with appetizer orders available later in the evening. If it rains, the concert will move inside JB's. Fall Nature Festival

Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary and Kearney Parks and Rec present Kearney’s third annual Fall Nature Festival. Costumes are encouraged while visitors explore booths, games, and hands-on activities for both children and adults. Highlights include seasonal crafts, an animal ambassador program featuring live raptors, owl pellet dissections, educational stations, and more. Admission is free for everyone, and donations to support the festival’s future are welcome, with a suggested contribution of $5 per family. Participants walk in memory of loved ones, in support of people they care about, and to show solidarity with their community, underscoring that no one has to walk alone. The fundraising goal is 15,000 dollars.
