Trapper Memorial Karaoke Night

A memorial karaoke night at The Pigeon Coop of Carlsbad, NM honors Trapper Cearley, a former employee who performed as a mime and was killed in an accident. The evening centers on supporting his family, including his mother, Teejah, through singing and community giving. There will be prize drawings every fifteen minutes with contributions welcomed from businesses, tip jars for donations, and plans for simple games that need volunteer help. Merchants and vendors are invited to participate, with no required vendor fee and optional setup donations of $5, $10, $15, $20, or any amount that feels right. Donated prizes or small items for the drawings are appreciated. The night brings people together to show care and solidarity for Trapper’s loved ones.

Settle in at Nurvis Purvis Brewing Co. for a relaxed Crafts & Drafts session focused on creating a rag flag hanger inspired by classic Americana. Using layered ribbon, fabric, and lace, participants customize a rustic Fourth of July accent for a front door, patio, or summer décor setup. All materials are provided and an instructor guides the process step by step, so beginners are welcome. Each ticket includes supplies and instruction, and everyone leaves with a handmade rag flag. America's 250th in Artesia, NM

Artesia marks the nation’s 250th with an all-day Independence Day celebration that stretches from first light to a fireworks finale at Jaycee Park. Expect live music, spirited tournaments, great food, family activities, and time-honored patriotic moments throughout town. The day opens with a city-wide salute at Heritage Plaza, broadcast by KSVP Radio, featuring the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer, and the National Anthem. Competitive fun runs strong with the Firecracker Scramble four-person golf event at Artesia Country Club, the Stars, Stripes, & Dinks pickleball tournament at Jaycee Park with divisions for beginners and advanced players plus cash prizes, a co-ed 4-on-4 volleyball tournament with guaranteed games, and the Bags Fly! Top Dog Switch cornhole showdown for cash and bragging rights. Runners can take on the Star Spangled Dash 5K from Heritage Plaza with plenty of color and festive energy. Skydiving is available all day at ATS, the Artesia Municipal Airport. Main Street comes alive for the Let Freedom Ring patriotic parade presented by the Elks Club D.O.E.S., encouraging big, over-the-top float designs that revive classic chicken wire and papier-mâché flair. At Jaycee Park, live music sets the tone with Texas country from Aiden Logsden and rock and roll covers by Shine-ola. The Adobe Rose Beer & ’Rita Garden offers refreshments, and Food Truck Alley keeps appetites satisfied throughout the day. The celebration culminates in a massive, choreographed fireworks show at Jaycee Park lasting nearly 25 minutes, lighting up the Artesia sky.

Suminagashi: Water Marbling

Explore Suminagashi, the Japanese practice of water marbling that translates to floating ink. This hands-on workshop introduces traditional ways of setting ink afloat on water and lifting the flowing patterns onto paper, resulting in prints that are truly one of a kind. The experience is welcoming to beginners and enjoyable for those with art experience, with time to experiment with color, movement, and design while creating marbled papers suited for framing, journals, cards, or other creative projects. Ages 13 and up are welcome, and participants under 18 must attend with an adult. Class size is capped at 20 to keep the setting focused. All materials are provided. Hearts For Heroes

The Sodality Foundation hosts Hearts for Heroes, a community fundraising evening dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellness of first responders in Eddy and Lea counties. At The Valley Venue in Carlsbad, guests can enjoy barbecue from Smokin Kay’s BBQ, a live performance by Fabian Romero, dancing, live auctions, and raffles. A cash bar will be available, hosted by Milton’s Brewing. Carlsbad Lion's Club Golf Tournament

Set on the fairways of Riverside Country Club, this inaugural golf tournament benefits the Carlsbad Community Lions Club with a four person scramble designed for a full day of friendly competition, camaraderie, and time on a beautiful course. Prizes will recognize standout performances, including the top team, longest drive, and closest to the pin. Sponsorship opportunities are available at 150 dollars for a tee box sign, 500 dollars for a four player team package at 125 dollars per person, and 1,000 dollars for a bundle that includes a tee box sign, team entry, social media recognition, and merchandise. TATE BRANCH 20TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT

Celebrate two decades of Tate Branch Artesia at a family friendly event filled with activities and giveaways. Photo Printing Workshop • Carlsbad

CENTER, an international photographic organization, presents a free, hands-on workshop at Carlsbad Museum focused on creating high quality photographic and fine art prints using professional Epson printers. The session is tailored for photographers, artists, and creative entrepreneurs seeking practical guidance on preparing and printing work for sales and promotional use. Participants will leave with finished prints they produced during the workshop. A suggested materials donation helps cover paper and other supplies. All experience levels are welcome, and space is limited. Instruction is led by JC Gonzo, an artist, writer, and filmmaker based in Santa Fe and originally from Anthony, New Mexico. He studied filmmaking, photography, and studio arts at the College of Santa Fe from 2008 to 2011, completing a self-designed BA. From 2020 through 2023 he published the Southwest artist showcase zine Cuidado, which received a Fulcrum Fund Award in 2022. His work has appeared at the New Mexico Museum of Art, No Name Cinema, the Sanitary Tortilla Factory, and additional venues. In 2024 he served as an artist in residence at The Ranch Residency in La Madera, New Mexico.
