101 Kayaking Class! Sat. June 27th, 2026

Build confidence on the river during a beginner-friendly paddling class designed for first timers and casual explorers. Professional instructors teach how to handle a single kayak, a tandem kayak, or a canoe on moving water. Training covers river and water safety, reading current and weather, what to bring on a paddle, fundamental stroke techniques, and trip planning before each outing. After the safety briefing, each participant practices in a kayak while tethered to an instructor, receiving guidance on moving forward, backing up, and holding position. Once the basics are in place, students team up with an instructor for a short upstream section, then head downstream around an island and return to the bank for a quick water and restroom break. The session wraps up with a four mile downstream run to the takeout that usually takes about an hour and a half, followed by a shuttle ride back to the starting point. All gear is provided, including boats, life jackets, paddles, the shuttle, and experienced river guides. A light lunch is included with fresh fruit, crackers and cheese, chips and salsa, and drinks. Participants must be at least 12 years old. If registering a child, choose a tandem or a canoe and ensure a parent accompanies them. When purchasing, boat options include a single kayak, a tandem kayak for two people, or a canoe for two people. The cost is $45 per person plus tax, and tandem and canoe pricing already covers two people. Completing the class unlocks the ability to rent boats from the shop at a discounted rate for personal adventures.
