Brewery Arts CenterRoad to Terminus: The Art of Candace Garlock
This artist reception spotlights Candace Garlock’s Road to Terminus, a body of paintings, prints, and sculptures shaped by the notion of a railroad’s last stop and by pop culture touchpoints like The Walking Dead. The work traces cycles of arrival and departure, treating endings as thresholds that keep the journey in motion. Themes of sanctuary, survival, and the search for community unfold within an apocalyptic frame, while threads of interconnectedness link people, places, and bodies. Visual language from a Nevada upbringing appears in vibrant color, layered pattern, and symbolic detail that mark both home and inner terrain. Garlock’s experience living with multiple sclerosis deepens the focus on acceptance and transformation, moving through vulnerability, pain, and hope. Each piece engages desire, stereotypes, and identity, encouraging dialogue about belonging and the beauty found in shared struggles and triumphs. The result invites connection and radical acceptance, a search for sanctuary and relationship even when the path feels treacherous. This reception is free.
