GLV-Summerlin Spicy Sunday Road Ride

This group road ride departs from Giant Las Vegas Summerlin and typically covers 25 to 35 miles, with some riders adding extra distance. The average pace is 18 to 21 mph. Routes change from week to week and are chosen on the morning of the ride, and suggestions for new routes are welcome. Participants need a road bike, a helmet, and hydration, along with a positive attitude for riding with a fun group. Explore the five exercises of Falun Dafa for free at the Desert Breeze practice site in Las Vegas. Beginners are welcome. If you arrive a bit late and participants have their eyes closed, it is fine to approach quietly... you may need to give a gentle tap on the shoulder, since the group practices in a calm, meditative state with music and qigong movements. Consider bringing a towel or exercise mat for sitting. A concrete bench is available if sitting on the ground is not comfortable. Practice continues throughout the year, with shade in the summer and sunshine in the winter, and pauses only for a strong rain, which is uncommon in Vegas. Falun Dafa is a traditional Chinese qigong and meditation practice that includes four unhurried, gentle, and fluid standing exercises, often practiced for about an hour, followed by a seated meditation with soft music. New participants can sit for as long as feels right, and while the group often meditates for a full hour, leaving early is acceptable. The movements are intended to benefit body, mind, and spirit, supporting stress relief and overall well-being, with a broader aim of cultivating wisdom and enlightenment. Community Breast Ultrasound Screening

Dr. Michiel Pillet of Tucson, Arizona, also known as @pricklyprospects, leads a plant talk on cactus conservation for the club. The presentation looks at why many cacti are among the most threatened organisms, examining the impacts of illegal collecting, habitat loss, and a changing climate, and highlights how safeguarding these species will require fresh approaches and collaboration across society. Dr. Pillet is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the University of South Florida and a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Cactus and Succulent Plants Specialist Group. He earned his PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona, serves on the IUCN SSC Succulent Plant Illegal Trade Task Force and the Cactus and Succulent Society of America Conservation Committee, and is the Conservation Committee Chair for the Tucson Cactus and Succulent Society. His research centers on climate change effects on cacti, and in 2021 he founded Prickly Prospects, a conservation-focused nursery dedicated to ethical propagation of highly imperiled species. Pinocchio resolves to be honest and to turn to trusted adults when in trouble, and he and his father return to repair Olympia and begin a fresh start together. Celebrate Mother’s Day weekend with a restorative sound bath held in the peaceful company of therapy horses from Healing Hooves. As crystal bowls, chimes, and other instruments fill the arena, the horses are invited into the space to offer a calm, grounding presence that encourages stillness, presence, and connection. Guests may line up in their vehicles outside the gate, which opens 15 minutes before the start, then follow on-site guidance for parking. A liability release will be provided to review and sign upon arrival. After parking, attendees will be welcomed into the arena to settle in, and there may be a brief, supervised opportunity to connect with the therapy horses before the session begins.
