Blood on the Clocktower Organized Play Night

During a violent storm in Ravenswood Bluff, a scream shatters the calm and the town discovers its storyteller dead by the clocktower. A demon now hides in plain sight, striking after dark and masquerading among the townsfolk by day. The race is on for the forces of good to reveal the culprit before evil takes control. This face-to-face social deduction game gathers five to twenty players with a storyteller. Participants sit together in a circle and receive a unique character token aligned with either good or evil. The good team shares clues and compares insights to pinpoint the demon, while the evil side bluffs about their roles, spreads misinformation, and works to keep the monster concealed. Good prevails by identifying and executing the demon. Evil wins if the demon evades detection and the village falls. This organized play night for Blood on the Clocktower takes place at Bard & Baker with Greg. A game cover applies and can be purchased in advance or at the register on site. Food and drinks are available for purchase during the event.

Club D’Elf

Club d’Elf marks the release of Loon and Thrush with a performance featuring Reeves Gabrels, channeling the group’s hypnotic blend of Moroccan trance, dub, electronica, jazz, and free-form funk. Led by bassist and composer Mike Rivard, the ensemble draws from an ever-shifting roster of players from Boston, New York, and beyond, creating a living musical ecosystem where trance sits at the heart and grooves open into exploratory journeys. The band’s deep connection to Moroccan traditions was shaped by longtime member Brahim Fribgane, and his influence continues to resonate through Rivard’s commanding sintir work, developed under Fribgane and Gnawa masters Hassan Hakmoun and Mahmoud Guinia. Captured live in the studio with only light overdubbing, the new album leans on Rivard’s compositions while saluting key inspirations with Moroccan-tinged takes on the Grateful Dead’s Bird Song and New Speedway Boogie. A thread of flight ties it all together... from the avian imagery of the title to starward wanderings and the enduring guidance of Fribgane that lifts the music forward.

Dodi & Diana

At Capital Repertory Theatre, a new play by Kareem Fahmy explores a marriage under strain. Jason, a white Wall Street banker, and Samira, an up-and-coming performer of Egyptian heritage, reach a breaking point when her controversial TV role as a terrorist could catapult her career. Worried that fame will consume their relationship, Jason seeks guidance from an astrologer, and the couple checks into the Hôtel Ritz Paris on the anniversary of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed’s death. As they wait for a promised celestial moment, they enter a charged, sensual negotiation of power, trust, and desire that may redefine their future. Critics have lauded the piece, with The New Yorker highlighting its gripping insight into the puzzles of marriage and Theatremania noting its challenge to a sexist fairy tale. Capital Repertory Theatre has championed Fahmy’s work before through its Next Act Summits, which featured American Fast and A Distinct Society, and continues that support following the play’s world premiere with Colt Coeur in New York City. Dodi & Diana

Written by Kareem Fahmy, this play follows Jason, a white Wall Street banker, and Samira, an emerging actress of Egyptian heritage, as their relationship strains under the pressure of her potential breakout role playing a terrorist on television. Worried that fame could harm their bond, Jason seeks advice from an astrologer, and the couple checks into the Hôtel Ritz Paris on the anniversary of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed’s deaths. As they wait for a celestial sign that might chart their future, the story becomes a charged exploration of power, intimacy, ambition, and identity. Critics from The New Yorker and Theatremania have praised the work for its gripping insight into marriage and its challenge to a sexist fairy tale. Capital Repertory Theatre continues its association with Fahmy, having previously showcased his American Fast and A Distinct Society in its Next Act Summit, following the world premiere of this play with Colt Coeur in New York City. ICFS presents Tsui Hark’s The Blade (1995)

A screening at Proctors features Tsui Hark’s 1995 film The Blade along with an unannounced second feature. Hark upends the familiar one-armed swordsman myth, following a fighter who must come to terms with the loss of an arm in order to prevail. Rather than spotlighting the honor, dignity, and refined polish often associated with classic sword-fighting films, this story leans into the stark brutality beneath the legend. One critic described it as relentlessly fast, strikingly bloody, and unabashedly sweaty, a film that rewards repeat viewings. The feature is unrated, presented in Cantonese with English subtitles, and runs 105 minutes.

The Egg Presents: Nate Smith

Nate Smith, a GRAMMY-nominated drummer, composer, producer, and bandleader, brings his wide-ranging musical vision to The Egg Performing Arts Center. A Norfolk, Virginia native and early standout invited by Betty Carter to her Jazz Ahead program, he played the Blue Note at 20, began professional songwriting and production with Michael Jackson’s Heaven Can Wait, toured globally with Dave Holland’s band, and launched his own recordings as a solo artist and with KINFOLK. His work has earned multiple GRAMMY nominations, including recognition for KINFOLK: Postcards from Everywhere and as a member of the Dave Holland Octet. Across the years he has collaborated with Brittany Howard, Pat Metheny, Ravi Coltrane, Norah Jones, Jon Batiste, Vulfpeck, Lauren Daigle, The Fearless Flyers, Childish Gambino, Chris Potter, Charlie Hunter, Kiefer, CARRTOONS, and Kurt Elling. He has appeared on the cover of Modern Drummer and supplied the backbeat for the house band on Late Night with Seth Meyers. As a widely followed educator, he has shared clear approaches to complex rhythms and extended that work through the Pocket Change projects in 2018 and 2023. His latest album, LIVE ACTION, showcases a producer-led concept inspired by the Quincy Jones tradition. The recording features contributions from Josh Johnson, Marquis Hill, JSWISS, Charlie Hunter, Lionel Loueke, Michael League, Ben Williams, CARRTOONS, DJ Harrison, Kiefer, säje, Jermaine Holmes, and Lalah Hathaway, who reimagines The Pointer Sisters’ Automatic. Smith kept the sound unified by limiting tools, choosing analog gear, using the same instruments, favoring a few live takes, and avoiding programming. This appearance offers a focused look at an artist whose rhythmic drive, collaborative spark, and live intensity connect jazz, soul, hip hop, and more.

It is suggested for families with children ages 5 and up, though all ages are welcome. The Egg Presents: Brett Dennen

At The Egg Performing Arts Center, singer-songwriter Brett Dennen offers an intimate evening that puts his songs and stories at the forefront. The performance aligns with his album If It Takes Forever on Mick Music, his eighth solo release and his first full-length project following the 2021 album See the World. The evening features a solo set only, with Brett on acoustic guitar. Artwork displayed on stage will help set the scene for the music and anchor a shared exchange with the audience, and the setlist will be shaped together in the room so each performance feels familiar yet uniquely created. 2026 CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge

CDPHP, the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club, and United Way of the Greater Capital Region are partnering to amplify community impact around the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge and 518 Day. Registration is open for this 3.5-mile road race, and the entry fee is $35. 518 Day mobilizes hundreds of volunteers across the Capital Region for hands-on projects that support local nonprofits. When someone volunteers for 518 Day and is also registered for the race, United Way of the Greater Capital Region will contribute $10 to the event’s Charities of Choice, up to a total of $10,000. Participants can indicate they are taking part in both by selecting the option during race registration. This year’s Charities of Choice are Crossroads Center for Children and Catholic Charities Tri-County Services. Support for Crossroads Center for Children will help establish a secure nature trail and perimeter fencing, transforming an underused wooded area and pond into a safe, structured outdoor learning space. Planned improvements such as trail stabilization and drainage will expand access to therapeutic, nature-based activities that encourage movement, emotional regulation, and hands-on discovery for children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Funding for Catholic Charities Tri-County Services will strengthen food and nutrition efforts that serve people across Albany, Rensselaer, and Schenectady counties, with a focus on neighbors facing economic hardship. Initiatives in development include a mobile pantry, expanded home-delivered meals, and enhanced nutrition counseling to meet growing demand. The CDPHP WTC Training Program also returns for those new to running or building a foundation. Over ten weeks, participants receive run coaching, weekly group runs, and a training guide by Golden Runs. Thanks to CDPHP, the program cost is $70 per person, and registration is available within race sign-up for the first 40 participants.

The Egg Presents: L. Shankar feat. Selvaganesh Vinayakram & Amit Kavthekar

A collaboration at The Egg brings violinist and vocalist L. Shankar together with percussionists Swaminathan Selvaganesh on kanjira and mridangam and Amit Kavthekar on tabla, blending electric double violin and voice with the intricate pulse of Indian percussion. Known for work that spans Indian classical, pop, and jazz, Shankar co-founded the ensemble Shakti with John McLaughlin after early performances in the United States with jazz artists such as Archie Shepp and Clifford Thornton. Shakti first featured Ramnad Raghavan and a young Zakir Hussain, with Vikku Vinayakram later joining for touring and recordings, and the group’s influential collaborations are often cited as early building blocks of what became known as world music or global jazz. In the 1980s he designed a 10 string double neck electric violin that covers the range from violin to double bass, a distinctive instrument that led to recordings and tours with Peter Gabriel, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed, and Stewart Copeland. His playing appears on well known tracks like Phil Collins’ In The Air Tonight, Public Image Limited’s Rise, and Talking Heads’ Making Flippy Flappy, and he co-wrote the Grammy nominated score Passion for Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ with Peter Gabriel. Over a career spanning decades he has released 28 solo albums and contributed to award winning film, documentary, and television soundtracks, including seven full length albums on ECM. Recent projects include the 2024 albums Over The Stars with Vikku Vinayakram, V. Selvaganesh, and Swaminathan Selvaganesh, and Full Moon with tabla player Abhijit Banerjee, which reached number 3 on the World Music Charts Europe. Built on a sample of KC and the Sunshine Band’s “That’s the Way (I Like It),” the track has amassed over 25 million global streams, more than 23 million YouTube views, and 220 million views on the official TikTok sound, underscoring chemistry that continues to resonate. The pair’s catalog is defined by Bronx to Harlem synergy, melodic street sensibility, and a flair for reshaping classics, a legacy renewed with Coke Wave 3.5: Narcos and carried forward on Wave Gods: Cosmos Brothers. James McMurtry and the Martial Law Review

James McMurtry and the Martial Law Review bring The Black Dog & The Wandering Boy Tour, with special guest BettySoo. The tour shares its name with McMurtry’s 10 song album on New West Records, co produced with Don Dixon, whose credits include R.E.M. and The Smithereens. It is his first release in four years and follows The Horses and the Hounds, a record praised by Uncut and rated 8.0 by Pitchfork. The album features appearances by Sarah Jarosz, Charlie Sexton, Bonnie Whitmore and Bukka Allen, alongside the Martial Law Review, with Tim Holt on guitar and accordion, Cornbread on bass and Daren Hess on drums. These new story songs draw on threads of family history, from a Ken Kesey sketch used as the cover art to hallucinations experienced by his father, the writer Larry McMurtry, and a poem from a family friend. Known for turning small details into vivid scenes, McMurtry balances humor and heartache over arrangements that nod to Americana while carving their own space, and his influence is cited by younger songwriters such as Sarah Jarosz and Jason Isbell. Advance tickets are $25, and the price is $30 on the day of the show.
