Tortoise & Hare Trail Race - 10K and Fun Run

Inspired by the classic fable, this trail race welcomes runners of every speed and puts the focus on reaching the finish. Set amid the scenery of Buttermilk Falls State Park, the 10K+ course (about 6.5 miles) weaves through varied terrain, from the easygoing Larch Meadow Trail to more technical footing on Bear Trail and rolling stretches along the Treman Lake Trail. One extended climb gains roughly 450 feet in under a mile, which means a steady hike up followed by a swift descent. A free one-mile fun run for kids of all ages heads around the Larch Meadow loop at the beginning, and it is untimed and non-competitive.

Canandaigua Academy (NY) Bottom, Granby & Leg Defense

At Canandaigua Academy, this wrestling clinic centers on the CMP Bottom System, emphasizing simplicity, precise execution, and reliable scoring from the bottom position. Athletes learn to identify key pressure points and positions that allow them to control exchanges rather than react, with instruction designed to help participants process, retain, and apply advanced techniques with minimal risk. A major focus is the Granby System, demonstrating how to use an opponent’s pressure to generate points from multiple positions through purposeful movement. The curriculum pairs these tactics with proven leg defense so wrestlers can confidently choose bottom and convert defense into offense. Led by CMP Coach Cliff Fretwell, the clinic welcomes all ages and skill levels. Plan for a full day on the mat with a midday lunch break, and bring lunch and drinks. The cost is $150. Unseen Canvas 2

The no peeking paint night returns to The Artist’s Lounge after an initial session that drew 22 participants and sparked plenty of laughter, guessing, and canvas comparisons. This guided workshop provides a full step by step painting lesson without showing the example image until the very end. Participants follow verbal directions, work with the same brushes and colors, and paint without a reference photo, without looking at the instructor’s canvas, and without clues, simply trusting the process as the image comes together. The final reveal happens at the end, and the last event’s unveiling drew big reactions. The focus is on creativity, surprises, and the fun of seeing how differently everyone interprets the same instructions rather than painting perfectly. Spots are limited, and the cost is $30 per person, or $25 when signing up with a friend using code UNSEEN25. Refunds, store credit, or class transfers are available with at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice receive store credit or a transfer to another class, and no shows are not eligible for a refund, store credit, or transfer.

July-Aug| Advanced Cooking Series Ages 14-18

A hands-on summer cooking series for teens who already feel comfortable in the kitchen or have worked with the instructor before. Weekly menus and lesson plans adjust to the group’s skills, interests, and curiosity, allowing for deeper exploration of ingredients, techniques, and flavor. Students will build confidence and strong kitchen safety habits while preparing dishes they can recreate at home. The format supports greater independence, ownership of the cooking process, and creative thinking about food. Each session reinforces core techniques and introduces more advanced skills, fresh flavor combinations, and practical problem solving in the kitchen. Participants collaborate, experiment, and cook with intention, growing technical know-how along with the confidence to explore their own ideas. For the best experience, wear an apron or clothes that can handle a bit of mess and closed-toe sneakers. Students are encouraged to bring a knife they feel confident using. Every class ends with time to enjoy the dishes prepared together. Plans remain flexible from week to week so menus and skill-building can evolve with the group’s experience, interests, and enthusiasm, keeping each session responsive, engaging, and just a little bit magical.

River Lynch LIVE at the LBC!

Singer songwriter River Lynch returns to Laurentide Beer Company for a solo set built around a clear message in his songs... stay true to yourself and become who you want to be. He began writing at seventeen in Rochester, NY, left college to dedicate himself to music, and made a pivotal purchase of a six string Rickenbacker guitar at a local music shop that helped shape his path. His sound draws from rock and roll, roots rock, blues, and Americana, blending bluesy, hook driven, vintage influences with fresh energy and earning comparisons to Tom Petty, The Black Keys, and Alabama Shakes. Coverage from EarToTheGroundMusic.com has noted that the music reaches beyond a typical rock outfit. Influenced by the 1950s through the 1970s yet intent on originality, his approach centers on strong songwriting, with a rock solid band when performing with The Spiritmakers. He released the debut EP There Goes the Heart in 2016 with bassist Schuyler Skuse and local Rochester musicians, a project that grew into River Lynch and The Spiritmakers. Since then they have independently issued six additional singles and performed across New York, the East Coast, and Canada, opening for Three Dog Night, Dave Mason, Rusted Root, The Blue Stones, Jesse Dayton, Carbon Leaf, and the Legendary Shack Shakers. There is no cover for this performance and reservations are not accepted. Seating is available on a first come basis.
