DSP Shows and the State Theatre of Ithaca present an intimate solo performance by Jeff Tweedy with special guest Case Oats. Tweedy, the founding member and lead voice of Wilco, will draw from a wide-ranging catalog. In addition to 13 albums with Wilco, he has released five solo records, most recently the 30 track Twilight Override, called a magnum opus by the New York Times. The evening offers a rare opportunity to hear these songs up close and to explore the world of Twilight Override. Case Oats, a Chicago-based project led by Casey Gomez Walker and Spencer Tweedy, began seven years ago when the pair started writing together. Spencer Tweedy is a seasoned drummer who has performed with Jeff Tweedy, Waxahatchee, Mavis Staples, and Norah Jones, and the duo has shaped a lived in sound that complements Gomez Walker’s lyrics, which are wry, confessional, and full bodied.

During the Haunted Stroll, visitors can wander the gardens and come across spooky characters like witches, goblins, and ghouls. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, including hot chocolate, fresh apple cider, apple cider doughnuts, chips, and adult beverages. Recognized as a roots music supergroup, they made their live debut at Carnegie Hall and were featured in the 2011 documentary How to Grow a Band. Their fifth album, All Ashore, earned the Grammy Award for Best Folk Album in 2018, followed in early 2022 by the tribute release Hell on Church Street. This performance highlights boundary-pushing acoustic music delivered with precision and heart.

Donna the Buffalo brings decades of roots-fueled rock shaped by a devoted community of musicians and fans. Formed in 1989, the band has logged thousands of performances and appeared at landmark festivals including Bonnaroo, the Newport Folk Festival, Telluride, Austin City Limits Festival, MerleFest, and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. They have shared the stage with The Dead and toured alongside artists such as Peter Rowan, Del McCoury, Los Lobos, Little Feat, Jim Lauderdale, Rusted Root, and Railroad Earth. Their touring history also includes a collaboration with Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Ben Cohen to spotlight concerns about corporate spending in politics. Their impact offstage is substantial as well. In 1991 they founded the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival in Trumansburg, New York, a four day gathering that began as an AIDS benefit and continues to raise funds for arts and education. The festival welcomes more than 15,000 people each year and has grown into a family of events that includes the twice yearly Shakori Hills festival in North Carolina and the Virginia Key festival in Florida. In 2016 the GrassRoots Culture Camp launched in Trumansburg, offering four days of music, art, dance, and movement workshops with dinners and dances each evening. Using passages from her letters and journals, the performance lets Alcott speak in her own voice about her childhood, her service as a Civil War nurse, her determination to support her family, and her commitment to equal rights, revealing the hopes, heartbreaks, and experiences that shaped her novels, short stories, and poems. The event portrays her as more than the author of Little Women, highlighting her roles as a writer and poet, an abolitionist and nurse, a patriot, and a supporter of women’s suffrage. He is also known for leading Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, composing concertos for banjo and orchestra, exploring the instrument’s African lineage in the documentary Throw Down Your Heart, and collaborating with artists such as Zakir Hussain, Rakesh Chaurasia, Edgar Meyer, Edmar Castañeda, Antonio Sánchez, Abigail Washburn, Chick Corea, and Renée Fleming on The Fiddle and the Drum.
