Beethoven's Fidelio

Opening night at Asbury Hall features Beethoven’s only opera, presented by Sotto Voce opera collective with the Avanti Orchestra. Fidelio unfolds a story of courage and devotion as Leonore, determined to rescue her imprisoned husband, disguises herself as a boy named Fidelio to win the trust of his captors and seize the moment to secure his freedom at great personal risk. This staging brings together singers from the local area, from across the country, and from abroad, and highlights the expressive style of bel canto singing. The Avanti Orchestra from Buffalo showcases Beethoven’s orchestral writing. Two original short films by director Alex Huddleston accompany the two overtures, offering added insight into the unfolding drama. Sunny Side Jazz Band

Sunny Side, a New Orleans based traditional jazz band, returns to Buffalo for its annual dance party at Duende at Silo City. The performance is planned for the outdoor space with plenty of room for dancing, and because seating is limited, attendees may want to bring a chair. If the weather turns, the show will move indoors to the upstairs bin floor. Admission is free and open to all ages, and tips for the musicians are appreciated. The band draws inspiration from early jazz icons including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Fats Waller, and others. During 2020 and 2021 they kept live music alive in the Lower Garden District with a Jazz in Coliseum Square Park series that neighbors welcomed during a difficult period. They are also preparing for a sixth national tour in summer 2026. This concert is part of The Big Easy in Buffalo, an ongoing effort that brings the music and culture of New Orleans and Louisiana to Western New York through free and low cost performances as well as education and mentoring for local musicians, students, and the broader community. The series is supported in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with backing from Governor Hochul and the New York State Legislature, Erie County, Goldfarb Financial, Erie County Legislator Michael Kooshoian, The Cullen Foundation, buffaloFM, Dick & Jenny’s, Duende, and National Fuel Gas Co.

Hands Healing Heroes 13th Annual Veterans Appreciation Day

Hands Healing Heroes presents its 13th Annual Veterans Appreciation Day, a community celebration dedicated to honoring those who have served and their families. Veterans and their families receive free entry. Each veteran is welcomed with an entrance gift, a complimentary haircut and massage, one sheet of basket auction tickets, assistance with an Armed Forces medal search with applications available, prearranged transportation to and from the event if needed, and a full luncheon. Live music will be provided by Wood -n- Steel. Admission for the general public is $20 and includes one meal ticket and one sheet of auction tickets. Additional basket auction tickets are available at $5 per sheet or $20 for five sheets, and big ticket item sheets are $10 each or $25 for three. Fall Stained Glass Event

Enjoy a creative evening learning stained glass with step by step guidance from Honeynutt Glass at Shawnee Country Barns Antique Co-Op. All instruction and supplies are provided, so beginners are welcome. Choose from seasonal designs including Fall Leaves, a Buffalo Bills logo, a Ghost Pumpkin, a Black Cat, or a Pumpkin, then craft your piece and take it home. The workshop is $60 per person.
