Gravity in Action STEM Camp

Designed for students entering grades 2 through 6, this single day STEM camp offers hands-on challenges centered on flight, engineering, and physics. Participants create and refine paper airplanes, testing different folds and shapes to improve distance or accuracy. They also get practical experience with drones, exploring how they work while completing guided tasks, obstacle courses, and mission style activities. Activities continue with building a functioning marble roller coaster from construction paper, where the marbles move using only physics and energy. Multiple session options are available in this single day format. Cost is $60.

Company Auditions for 2026 - 2027

Auditions are being held for the award-winning competition team as it enters its 18th season. Dancers will be evaluated in tap, jazz, and lyrical, organized by approximate age groups. Sessions for ages 6 to 10 and 10 to 13 are $20 each, and the session for ages 13 and older is $25. Please wear a leotard with shorts or tights, and secure hair in a bun. Bring all dance shoes, including tap, ballet, and jazz. No group warm up will be provided, so arrive already warmed and ready to dance. A contract must be read and signed by both dancers and parents. Some participants may be asked to stay longer at the discretion of the directors and a guest teacher only. Placement decisions are final and not open to discussion. Email updates will be sent with a tentative competition schedule. This season is a Nationals year.

The 2026 Hector Open brings golfers together at Stonebridge Golf and Country Club for a day on the course with food, friendly competition, and community impact. Entry is 90 dollars per golfer or 360 dollars per team. Lunch is provided during registration with tomato pies on the menu, and an Italian buffet dinner will be served. Prizes will recognize the first, second, and third place teams, along with Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin for both male and female golfers. All proceeds support the Upstate Medical Foundation, the Frankfort-Ilion Food Pantry, and the Shirley Springer Scholarship Fund. Day-of registration will be available. Details are subject to change.

Ravenswood Commander 1v1 1k on the 1st, That's Alot of 1's!

Ravenswood is hosting a competitive 1v1 Commander 1k tournament with a $40 entry fee, using Dual Commander rules and the associated banned and restricted list. Decklists are required. Proxies are allowed only with proof of ownership and prior approval from the shop. With a full turnout of 32 players, store credit prizes are $400 for first place, $200 for second, $100 each for third and fourth, and $25 each for fifth through eighth, with payouts scaling if attendance is lower. This beginner-friendly video game coding bootcamp teaches students how to build their own web-based video games using real JavaScript. No prior coding experience is needed, and it is designed for students entering grades 7 through 12.

Crayfishing & Activities at The West Canada Creek

Head to the rocky creek area called The Splash Alley Exit next to Tent Site 100 for an hour of hands-on fun. PISTOL SKILL BUILDER

Spend an evening improving your pistol skills at this intermediate-focused workshop. It covers range orientation and firearms safety, then moves through pistol fundamentals like grip, stance, trigger control, sight alignment, and follow-through, followed by warm-up drills and ready positions. You’ll also practice reloading and malfunction-clearance drills, do dry fire and live fire exercises, work strong-hand and weak-hand shooting, and train on accuracy and speed, including engaging multiple targets and alternate shooting positions. The class includes gear discussion, Q&A, and emphasizes safe, efficient shooting in a friendly professional setting. To participate, you should already be comfortable with your pistol and able to load, unload, and clear malfunctions, and you should have experience working to and from a holster. Arrive by 5:45 PM for set up, safety, and the first aid briefing. A $10 range fee is due in cash at the class.

STEM Discovery - Lakeside Rocketry Camp

Griffiss Institute presents a six day overnight experience where students ages 11 to 15 dive into rocketry and STEM. The experience concludes with a live rocket launch that showcases their work and sparks interest in careers in aerospace and advanced manufacturing. Join the SUNY Poly men’s and women’s volleyball coaches for a four-day camp focused on improving your volleyball skills through small-group instruction. You’ll work on serving, passing, hitting, and other key fundamentals, then finish each day with plenty of competitive games, including lots of six-on-six play. This camp is for ages 14 to 18, runs Monday through Thursday, and is held at the Wildcat Field House. Registration closes Monday, August 10 at noon, and there are no refunds.

Create An Ogham Pendant

Explore the early medieval Irish alphabet while crafting a personalized keepsake. Guided by Sue Romero, participants shape a pendant from polymer clay and etch a word of their choice in ogham, then finish with a necklace-ready piece. The workshop also includes a brief introduction to the history of ogham writing. No prior art experience is required, only curiosity and a willingness to try something new. The fee covers all materials and tools, plus light refreshments, and everyone leaves with a completed necklace. This hands-on experience supports the Irish Cultural Center’s mission to keep Irish history and heritage alive in the Mohawk Valley. A previous session sold out, and this workshop still has openings.

Homeschool Day: Happy Birthday, United States!

The next Homeschool Day at Fort Stanwix offers a flexible schedule with a morning or afternoon session, making it easy for families to participate for part of the day or spend more time on site. Registration is required for either session, and a sign up link is shared as the event approaches. For specific questions, contact the park’s Education Coordinator at 315-338-7730. Activities are planned for the outdoors, and if weather becomes a concern they will move into covered living history spaces so the program can continue. Cancellation would only occur in the case of prolonged rain or severe conditions. Government Offices State State Office Building

52 Annual Falling Leaves Road Race - CUP RACE

Celebrating more than five decades, this fall running tradition brings runners to downtown Utica at the State Office Building for a 5k, a 14k with scenic switchbacks, and a kids run. The 5k begins with a gentle climb over the first half mile, makes a right at the traffic circle to stay on the 5k route, then moves onto flatter terrain. The second mile starts with a slight rise and finishes level, and the final 1.1 miles largely mirror the opening stretch in reverse. The 14k shares the opening segment, then turns left at the traffic circle and continues with a gradual climb before a steeper push into the park. Middle miles feature picturesque but demanding switchbacks on park roads, followed by a mostly downhill section and a more relaxed descent leading to a quick finish. After the races, a post race celebration and awards ceremony at DoubleTree by Hilton Utica is presented by ICONIC, with awards for overall and age group winners in both the 5k and 14k.

Created with ages 1 to 7 in mind yet made for the whole family, this lively show blends laughter with learning in a shared experience. The performance runs about one hour and twenty minutes and includes a 20 minute intermission. Doors open one hour before the show begins. Kishman spent six years starring in the national and international tours of the Broadway hit Beatlemania and also appears with the symphonic Beatles production Classical Mystery Tour. For more than a decade, he has brought this show to audiences around the world, sharing the songs of the Beatles and Paul McCartney and earning praise for his striking visual and vocal likeness. A seasoned multi-instrumentalist, he has performed and toured with Wishbone Ash, recorded original music with RCA and Mercury Records, and is endorsed by Hofner. A free meet and greet follows the performance, and the event is open to all ages.
