Deep Restore 4/23

A 90 minute session designed to soothe body and mind weaves together Restorative Yoga, Thai bodywork, and yogic sleep meditation. It begins with an hour of restorative yoga, with the body settled into supported shapes while participants receive hands-on Thai bodywork that blends assisted stretching, gentle pressure, and rhythmic touch to encourage deep release. Grounding elements include soft drumming along the back, a touch of essential oil at the temples, and light compressions that help ease accumulated stress. The practice closes with 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra, a guided yogic sleep meditation often likened to the restfulness of four hours of sleep, inviting profound stillness and renewal. Attendance is limited to 9 participants to provide personalized attention and abundant hands-on support.

BCC Weekly Youth Gathering - Sedmično Okupljanje Omladine

The Bosnian Community Center of Central New York has partnered with Utica City Sports Center to present a weekly youth gathering for ages 13 to 21. There is no established trail, so expect mud, brush, and uneven terrain. Wear durable clothing and sturdy footwear rather than your best outfit. The hike is expected to last about two hours. Uptown Improv Academy: Saturday Night Showcase

This showcase presents long-form improv created live on stage with no script, so everything unfolds in the moment and anything can happen. Old Burying Ground Cleanup

Volunteers are invited to tidy the Old Clinton Burying Ground, resting place of the town’s founders. This community cleanup offers a meaningful way to share local pride and get into the spirit of America’s 250th anniversary. If you can, bring rakes and other cleanup tools to lend a hand. Activities begin at the Old Clinton Burying Ground and continue until the work is finished.

The Greatest American Clean-Up

Groups and individuals pitch in to pick up litter as part of the annual Great American Clean-up. Organized by an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, the effort supports a nationwide push toward removing 25 billion pieces of litter and highlights America’s semiquincentennial. Bags and gloves are provided, litter grabbers are available to borrow, and the city’s Department of Public Works collects filled bags from locations participants report after their clean-up.

Mrs. Bruno and the Art Masters - Claude Monet & Bob Ross

Dog Man is visiting for a story hour as part of Indie Bookstore Day. A ticket provides a discount on books purchased at the event. There are three available time slots, and space is limited. The event features a story, photo opportunities with Dog Man, and a themed activity.

9-Ball Open—Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour Stop #17

Mike Zuglan’s Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour returns to Utica Billiards for a two-day open stop featuring a double-elimination main event. Pros enter for $120 and amateurs for $70, and a tour membership is required, either $15 for a single event or $40 for the season. Registration is handled in person on the day of play only, and participation is confirmed once payment is made. A collared shirt is required. No sweats, shorts or T-shirts are permitted, and clean, neat jeans with sneakers are acceptable. The tournament director may decline an entry, and polo shirts are available for purchase if a collared option is needed. Matches on the winners side are even races to 9. After a first loss, players move to the one-loss bracket with even races to 7 for the remainder of their run. An additional $1,500 is added to the main event purse. Competition continues until four players remain undefeated and four remain with one loss, then the final eight return on day two to decide the champion. The finals follow true double-elimination, so a finalist from the one-loss side must defeat the undefeated player twice to claim the title. Players eliminated on the first day who are not professionals can enter a Second Chance tournament on the second day, which has $500 added to the entries. Utica Billiards is an alcohol-free, 6,600 square foot room that welcomes families, community groups, teens and dedicated pool players. The tournament uses 10 Brunswick Gold Crown III tables covered in Simonis 860 cloth. Additional amenities include five 7-foot tables in the main room, a back room with a tight-pocket 9-foot Gold Crown, a 10-foot heated carom table, a 12-foot snooker table and a Stiga 400 series ping pong table. A wide selection of beverages and food is available, including hot coffee and tea, seltzers, energy and sports drinks, sodas, salads, sandwiches and baked goods, and there is a pro shop with cues, cases and accessories. There is ample parking on site.

April Volunteer Day

At you matter garden, volunteers will focus on pulling weeds, picking up litter, and straightening the border beams to neaten the beds. Rocks that need a makeover will be collected and moved so people can take them to repaint. If turnout is strong, there may be time to begin adding fresh mulch. Bringing useful items such as a wheelbarrow, trash bags, or buckets will help the work run smoothly. The aim is to get the garden ready for the first mowing of the season.

Mommy & Me Family Yoga Series

Share mindful movement and breathing in a welcoming family yoga series at In Bloom Yoga Studio. Designed for parents and caregivers with children ages 2 to 5, this class invites moms, dads, grandparents, and guardians to participate alongside their little ones. Newcomers and longtime practitioners alike can expect simple poses, gentle stretching, and connection-focused activities that encourage bonding through movement and breath. An annual pig roast presented in collaboration with the Lee Center Volunteer Fire Dept. offers generous portions and plenty of activity. This popular gathering typically fills quickly.

Plantz & Plants brings a community seed and plant swap to Copper City Brewing Co., hosted by Rome Clean and Green for gardeners, plant lovers, and anyone hoping to add a little more green at home or in the yard. Trade extra perennials, vegetable starts, and surplus seed packets with neighbors while enjoying live music by Chad Plantz and craft beer from the brewery. The swap also supports Jervis Public Library through donations that will help build a new Seed Library so residents can borrow seeds to grow food and flowers. To make exchanges easy, label plants with their names and light or water needs when possible. Seed donations should be sealed and marked with the variety and the year collected. Even without plants to trade, guests can learn about Rome Clean and Green’s mission and connect with fellow gardeners in a relaxed setting. Admission is free, and contributions to Rome Clean and Green are appreciated, with opportunities to explore membership. Spreading the word helps bring even more variety to the swap.

This one day spring retreat at Full Lotus with Bianca focuses on reflection, nervous system awareness, movement, and sound. 2026 Annual Meeting

At Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Utica, the Chamber’s Annual Meeting recognizes members and highlights the organization’s work for the business community. Yin Yoga NEW TIME! (hybrid)

A Taste of Opera

A concert of opera highlights features the Mohawk Valley Choral Society at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes of Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish. The program includes arias and choruses by Bizet, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, Mozart, Verdi, and Gilbert and Sullivan, along with additional selections. Aquatic Sound Bath Float

An aquatic sound bath experience at the MVCC Jorgensen Center Fitness Center invites participants to float on twin air mattresses in a warm pool while immersed in a live soundscape. Gongs, Tibetan, crystal and alchemy singing bowls, chimes and a drum create vibrations that travel through the water and the body, encouraging deep relaxation, steadier sleep, less stress and anxiety, a quieter mind and an overall sense of ease. Many people notice a feeling of lightness, gentle tingling or shifts in temperature, colors or other imagery, emotional release and a sense of energy moving, along with moments of clarity and insight. Lifeguards are on duty to assist with getting on and off the floats, and boarding involves stepping into the pool to just below knee level. Intex Dura Beam air mattresses are provided and accommodate up to 300 pounds. Lightweight fleece blankets and eye masks are included. Comfortable, loose clothing such as shorts and a T-shirt is recommended. Bring a small pillow or folded towel for head and neck support, a large towel and a change of clothes in case of splashes, and drinking water, as the pool area is kept warm. Participation is limited to 20 people and a minimum of 6 is required for the session to run. Prepaid registration is required and the fee is $100, which secures a float. This will be the final session for a period while the pool is closed.

World Ballet Company: Cinderella

Cinderella comes to life with World Ballet Company in a lavish staging with Broadway flair that blends comedy, romance, and the grandeur of classical ballet. Through the Reflection invites artwork that plays with mirrored worlds and shifting viewpoints, where everyday scenes are altered by glass, water, and other reflective surfaces to blur the line between what is present and what is perceived. The exhibition focuses on images that suggest hidden feelings, fleeting encounters, and the quiet rhythms of daily life seen anew. This is a free, open call for a not juried, salon style group show. Submissions are accepted on a first come, first served basis. To be included, send work electronically to executivedirector@romeart.org by the listed submission deadline. Please limit entries to three pieces per artist. Submit JPG files named with the artwork title and overall dimensions that include the frame, and keep each image file to a maximum of 2.5 MB. The Fort on the Frontier: The "Jersey Grays" Occupy Fort Schuyler

Explore the story of 1776 in the Mohawk Valley, when the 3rd New Jersey Regiment, the “Jersey Grays,” fortified towns and villages throughout the region. By late summer, the regiment occupied the Oneida Carry, set about rebuilding the old Fort Stanwix, and worked to protect the border of the new United States of America. This event focuses on their occupation of Fort Schuyler and explains the role these soldiers played in the defense of the Mohawk Valley at the beginning of the American Revolution.

Just Breathe, Relax, Renew & Restore Yoga event for Mother's Day

Created for Mother’s Day, Just Breathe Yoga Studio offers a nurturing experience that honors the women who are always caring for others. A small group of 15 participants will unwind in a 90 minute class featuring a mix of gentle, yin, and restorative postures that welcome every experience level. After the practice, enjoy tea, food, and treats, and feel free to bring a favorite beverage to share. Each attendee will receive a flower and a little something to take home. The price is $45, and registration is required by May 7. Register by May 1 to save $15.

575 & Under 8-ball BCA rules

Compete in an 8-ball tournament at Copper City Billiards capped at 575 and under. It is open to all, and advance registration is required. Matches are played on twelve 7-foot Diamond tables with a randomly drawn bracket run through Digital Pool, and results are reported to Fargo. The entry fee is $55, which covers TT and a $5 administrative fee. Eligibility and rating details include adjustments for robustness. League players with fewer than 200 robustness will be set 25 higher. Others under 200 robustness are moved higher and will be reviewed. Players with no league experience or FR start at 550 unless playing speed is known otherwise. The format is true double elimination under BCA/CSI standards. On the winners side, R5 uses a hot race with a maximum of 8-3. On the one-loss side, R4 uses a hot race capped at 7-3. No one races to fewer than 3, for example a 6-2 race becomes 7-3. Players lag for the break, pocketing the 8 on the break does not win or lose the game, and jump cues are allowed. Breaks alternate, it is rack-your-own, and a scratch on the 8-ball is ball in hand. A players meeting will be held. Side action includes a 10-ball break-and-run pot set at $500 or $50 per ball with $2 tickets, plus a 50/50 raffle.

The first half features a high energy kickboxing segment that welcomes beginners and focuses on releasing stress and mental load, reclaiming a sense of strength, and channeling frustration and tension in a supported, healthy way. It is more than a workout, it is an outlet. The second half shifts into guided energy work, a mind body practice that helps participants slow down and turn inward to process what lies beneath the surface. It includes breathwork to soothe the nervous system and ease out of constant go mode, grounding techniques that foster safety and presence, body awareness to notice where emotions are held, and practices that allow those feelings to move. The session closes with intention setting to move from depletion to clarity and from overwhelm to empowerment. Mothers carry a lot, mentally, emotionally, and physically. This space offers room to feel without judgment, release without guilt, and reconnect with self beyond roles. Afterward, light snacks and refreshments are provided, along with time to connect with other women and a quiet moment to simply be. Cost is $40 per person.

Rome Family YMCA Aquatic Sound Bath Float

Certified Sound Healing Practitioner Andrea Lisette Villiere leads an Aquatic Sound Bath Float at the Rome Family YMCA, inviting participants to rest on twin air mattresses in the pool while a soothing soundscape unfolds. Waves of resonance from gongs, Tibetan, crystal and alchemy singing bowls, chimes, and drum travel through the water and body, encouraging deep relaxation, a quieter mind, and an overall sense of well-being. Many people report lighter moods, improved rest, and a renewed feeling of balance after this kind of experience. Participants may notice a sensation of drifting, gentle warmth or coolness, tingling, or energy moving throughout the body. Visuals such as colors can arise, and emotional release or intuitive insights are possible as attention follows the layers of sound. Lightweight fleece blankets and eye masks are provided. Two lifeguards will assist with getting on and off the floats, and the Intex Dura-Beam air mattresses support up to 300 pounds. Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as shorts and a T-shirt. Bring a small towel for under the head or neck, a larger towel, and an extra change of clothes in case of splashes. Flip flops or slip-on sandals are recommended for walking on the pool deck, and locker rooms are available for changing. Prepayment is required and secures a float. Center Centric is a group exhibition that celebrates the Rome Art and Community Center as both a creative muse and a welcoming gathering place. Paintings, sculpture, photography, and mixed media come together to reflect the Center’s spirit, history, and energy, highlighting its role in artistic expression and community connection. Each work functions as a conversation between artist and place, honoring an enduring hub of imagination and shared experience. This free, open call is non juried and presented in a salon style. Submissions are accepted on a first come, first served basis, with a limit of three pieces per artist to encourage a broad range of voices. Artwork must be submitted electronically in JPG format, labeled with the title and dimensions including the frame, and sized no larger than 2.5 MB per image. All pieces must be ready to hang or display. Wall works should be properly framed or presentation ready if unframed, with secure wiring that does not extend above the top of the frame, and clip frames are not accepted. Artwork may be delivered or mailed, and late entries will not be accepted. At drop off, artists will complete a Loan Agreement and provide their name, address, phone number, title, year, medium, dimensions including the frame, and price. Please place a removable sticker or a Post it note on the front of each piece for easy label matching. Works may be offered for sale, and the organizer retains a 30 percent commission on pieces sold. No artwork may be removed before the exhibition closes.

Relay For Life of Central NY presented by Upstate Cancer Center

Presented by Upstate Cancer Center, this Relay For Life brings the Central NY community together at Delta Lake State Park to celebrate cancer survivors, encourage those in treatment, remember loved ones, and raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s research and support programs. The day begins with laps for survivors and caregivers, followed by a complimentary lunch reception for survivors. While teams circle the track, there are on-site fundraisers, free activities for kids, music, friendly contests, themed laps, cancer education information, and a variety of food trucks. Admission is free, park entry is complimentary for attendees, and there is ample free parking. Survivors who pre-register online can receive a survivor T-shirt by mail. A luminaria ceremony later in the day honors and remembers those affected by cancer as white luminaria glow around the track, and the gathering concludes with closing ceremonies and awards. Visitors are welcome to stop by and support the teams whether or not they are part of one.

Man-to-Man Cancer Support Group Meeting

An open discussion space for those facing cancer or adjusting to life after treatment, offering connection, support, and shared experiences. Conversations are facilitated by male staff members from Faxton Campus, and participants can share their stories or simply listen. Refreshments will be available. The gathering takes place in the Weaver Conference Room on the first floor of Faxton Campus, and the Green Elevator provides access to the first floor. A Zoom option is available for those who prefer to participate remotely.

Barn Quilt Painting Workshop

At Brimfield Farm Winery, Sara of Little Red Farmette in Holland Patent leads a hands-on barn quilt painting workshop where participants create a sign for display indoors or outdoors. The $70 fee includes a 2-by-2-foot primed signboard that is pre-drawn with a pattern you select from more than 20 options, exterior paint in colors you choose, and all tools and materials needed to complete the project, plus a first drink. Step-by-step guidance is provided throughout to help you finish a piece ready for your home, camp, shed, or barn. Seating is limited, and pre-registration with a $20 deposit is required.

Women's Self-Defense

Build confidence and personal safety skills in a women-focused self-defense session at Bailey’s Karate School in Rome. Designed for ages 13 and up, this beginner-friendly workshop requires no prior experience. Instructors will cover strategies for de-escalation, ways to strengthen awareness and observation, and methods to break free from dangerous situations. 2026 Patriot 5K-10K Run/Walk - CUP RACE

This chip timed event features 5K and 10K races along with a 2 mile walk, supported by the Roman Runners Club and held in memory of US Military College ROTC cadet Richard Mitchell. Race day packet pickup will be available, and the 5K and 10K share the same start and finish. An awards ceremony will take place after the races, with trophies to the overall male and female winners. Age group awards for men and women go three deep in 14 and under, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over, with no duplicate winners. Additional recognition is given to the first place military finishers in the 5K and 10K, male and female, for both active and veteran participants.

This one day 10 ball rotational tournament at Copper City Billiards is capped at 575 and under. The 10 on the break does not count and early combinations are not allowed. The default race is to 7 with handicaps by Fargo range. Players rated 530 to 575 race to 7, 500 to 530 race to 6, and 499 and below race to 5. If opponents are even in Fargo, races are to 7 on both the winner and loser sides. The bracket is double elimination until the final, which is a race to 11, and no splits are permitted. The three foul rule is in effect and only cue ball fouls are called. Shots and safeties must be declared. If a called shot leaves the next player hooked, they may give the turn back to the shooter. Defensive play is not allowed after a ball is pocketed, and breaks alternate.

Oriskany: the Lost Battlefield

Historian Joseph Robertaccio presents a program at the Oriskany Museum that explores the Battle of Oriskany through fresh research and rediscovery. The talk surveys the battlefield using aerial archaeology, historic photographs from the 19th and 20th centuries, and eyewitness testimony to identify key locations and track down long-missing reports about the battle and its aftermath.
