At Gallery 40, Between Black and White presents a group exhibition of four contemporary artists working across painting, textile, photography, and mixed media. Centered on the expressive range of a limited palette, the show pairs crisp contrasts with measured touches of color that function as deliberate interruptions. Grounded in the dialogue between darkness and light, the work illustrates how constraint can expand artistic language. Each artist brings a distinct approach, from graphic abstraction and intimate photographic studies to tactile, sculptural forms, revealing how monochrome can heighten form, surface, movement, and meaning. Brief flashes of color appear like punctuation, shifting perception and guiding the eye. Rather than treating black and white as opposites, the presentation lingers in the gradations between them, emphasizing nuance, ambiguity, and quiet transitions while drawing attention to structure, materials, and the play of light and shadow. Featured artists include Jill Enfield, Yoko Izu, Holly McCabe, and Jennifer Prevatt.

Lindy Hop

Locust Grove teams up with Got2Lindy for a slate of swing dance activities. The day features a Lindy workshop with Linda and Chester Freeman of Got2Lindy Dance Studios, open to all levels and welcoming solo participants. A self-guided mansion tour is planned, weather permitting, followed by a beginner swing dance lesson and live music from Danny Lipsitz and the Brass Tacks. A cash bar will be available with beer, wine, and soda. Tickets are available at the door. Prices are $45 per person for the workshop, $65 for the workshop plus the swing dance, or $35 per person for the dance only.

NDSO salutes the American music scene from the 1950s through the 1970s, celebrating distinctive sounds, enduring melodies, and influential artists. The first half pays tribute to Elvis Presley with the orchestra and features guest artist Gene DiNapoli, with songs including "Burning Love," "Suspicious Minds," and "Can't Help Falling in Love." DiNapoli, a leading Elvis tribute performer in the United States, is known for a three-and-a-half octave vocal range and authentic costumes, has performed with members of Elvis's original band, and has been named "Fave Elvis in New York." The second half broadens the spotlight with music associated with The Beatles, Burt Bacharach, Simon & Garfunkel, Herb Alpert, Brazilian jazz, and more.

Words on Wednesday: Ina Claire Gabler and Judy Marano

A Words on Wednesday program at Gallery 40 spotlights June’s featured authors, Ina Claire Gabler and Judy Marano. Gabler’s fiction for adolescents has appeared in Scholastic Scope magazine, the Scope English Anthology Level Two, and Young Miss magazine. Her young adult novel Laura Who? was longlisted in a UK annual writing competition. She has also published short fiction for adults in US and UK literary journals, earning finalist recognition in several international story contests. She taught writing at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where she completed a Ph.D. focused on methods of teaching writing, and she read her flash piece Cold Remains during an interview on The Roundtable on Woodstock radio. Marano is the author of Words Matter and So, I’ve Been Thinking, with the latter receiving the Literary Titan Gold Award for Nonfiction. She is at work on Questions That Keep Us Up At Night. Her professional roles include college professor of writing and communication, college counselor, and owner of Educational Awareness, a college-prep company. She lives in Brewster, New York, and draws inspiration from daily yoga, her happiness journal, and conversations with new people.

Settle in for a calming, kid-friendly yoga session with Mindful Yoga with Liz created for toddlers and their caregivers. Using hands-on materials, little ones explore body awareness and balance, build core strength, and practice fine and gross motor skills in a playful, supportive setting. The story follows the Freagan clan’s rousing reunion on the farm, complete with hearty fare, singing, plenty of whoops and hollers, and a yearly call-the-pigs contest where a slop bucket stuffed with cash is on the line. Trouble brews as Pa’s fondness for moonshine puts the homestead at risk and Beauregard Hogwallerin looms as the one who could take the farm. For Living Lovers

For Living Lovers offers an intimate acoustic performance by Brandon Ross and Stomu Takeishi, a long-running duo whose rapport began in Henry Threadgill’s bands. Their unplugged format favors a chamber-like approach to modern string music, with Ross on acoustic guitar, soprano guitar, and banjo, and Takeishi on acoustic fretless bass guitar. Ross is recognized for moving fluidly across styles, from electric and electronics-focused projects to this refined setting, and for collaborations with artists including Henry Threadgill, Oliver Lake, Archie Shepp, Leroy Jenkins, and Butch Morris. Takeishi is noted for adventurous fretless bass work and a finely tuned sense of tone and texture, with credits that include groups led by Myra Melford, Erik Friedlander, and Cuong Vu. Over nearly three decades together, they have released the album Revealing Essence and introduced the Chamber Music America–commissioned suite Immortal Obsolescence. Their recordings capture strikingly close detail that brings out every nuance, and that same focus shapes their live interplay. Presented by Elysium Furnace Works, the concert takes place in the historic VBI Theatre at the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center.

Tumbling Classes Begin June 8th

PowerForge Athletics in Poughkeepsie, New York launches the first installment of its Summer Elite Training Series with a nationally recognized, cheerleading-led advanced stunt clinic. The program focuses on stunt progression, precise body positions, elite timing and synchronization, advanced transitions, collegiate-style stunt training, and building confidence and strong technique for dedicated athletes. Separate sessions are offered for Levels 1, 2, and 3. Athletes must enroll based on their current stunt level, and group placement may be adjusted according to age and skill to ensure appropriate training. Registration is open, space is very limited, and enrollment is handled in the order received. Pricing includes an early registration and team member rate of $65, a standard rate of $75 as capacity begins to fill, and a $90 option for athletes participating in both Level 2 and Level 3. This clinic kicks off a summer of specialty clinics, guest coaches, advanced intensives, and expanded athlete development opportunities throughout the Hudson Valley.

Cornhole for a Cause invites players and spectators to gather at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for a friendly tournament that supports the St. John’s Food Pantry. Participants of all ages are welcome. Form your own team or sign up to be placed on one. The entry fee is $5 per player, and additional donations are appreciated. All proceeds go directly to the pantry. Food and drinks will be available, and the event concludes with special awards. The house trio features Larry Ham on piano, Matt Garrity on drums, and Ben Basile on bass. Hudson Valley Riders present the Street Scholar Mentorship Program, a training experience that connects range practice to real-world riding. Created with input from clinical trauma experts and veteran riders, the curriculum concentrates on advanced road strategy and essential emergency life-saving skills. Purchasing or donating a ticket directly supports hands-on mentorship for new and returning riders, Stop the Bleed certification in partnership with WMCHealth, and scholarships that help unendorsed riders earn a license and receive training. Operated by HVR, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the program is built around development, community, and the knowledge needed to return home safely after every ride.

Get The Led Out presents a concert that brings the spirit of Led Zeppelin’s recordings to life on stage. The Philadelphia-based ensemble of six seasoned musicians uses a wide range of instruments to recreate the rich layers and studio overdubs from the albums, so when a song features three guitars, three guitarists take the spotlight. Skipping wigs or imitation accents, the focus is a high-energy performance delivered with precision and heart. Often called The American Led Zeppelin, the show highlights the band’s early catalog and ventures into lesser-heard deep cuts. A special acoustic segment features favorites like Tangerine and Hey Hey What Can I Do. The pacing balances power and subtlety, reflecting the light and shade that define the music. The lineup features Paul Sinclair on lead vocals and harmonica, Paul Hammond on electric and acoustic guitars and mandolin, Theremin Tommy Zamp on electric and acoustic guitars and vocals, Eddie Kurek on keyboards, guitar, vocals, and percussion, Derek Smith on drums and percussion, and Seth Chrisman on bass and vocals.
