The Central Ohio Hot Jazz Society presents a show and dance featuring the Whirlybirds at the Clintonville Woman's Club. This Columbus quartet, active since 2016, blends contemporary flair with classic hot jazz, delivering crisp three part harmonies, virtuosic playing, and carefully crafted arrangements. The program moves from traditional standards to original songs, creating an atmosphere that suits both attentive listeners and an eager dance floor. The lineup includes Joe Gilliland on guitar and vocals, Seth Daily on drums, Trent Sampson on bass and vocals, and Joseph Brenneman on reeds and vocals. Alcohol is bring your own, and a selection of food and drinks will be available to purchase, including hot dogs, soup, hot entrees, desserts, packaged snacks, and other beverages. Tickets are sold at the door, with pricing options for the general public, COHJS members, SwingColumbus dancers, students, and music educators. Prior to the performance, SwingColumbus instructors offer a two hour Partner Charleston workshop downstairs at the venue. A single $30 fee covers the workshop plus admission to the dance that follows.

An open house filled with interactive STEAM experiences invites families and curious minds to discover how sports, movement, technology, and everyday science connect in engaging ways. Presented in partnership with COSI as part of the COSI Science Festival Community Event, the activities take place throughout DICK’S House of Sport and encourage exploration at a comfortable pace. Guests of all ages can step into the role of a scientist by visiting stations spread across the store. Check in at the main entrance to receive a wristband and a Science Passport, then collect stamps as each activity is completed. The more stamps earned, the bigger the rewards, with prizes that include sunglasses, stress balls, and free climb passes. Completing every station adds an entry for a House of Sport birthday party grand prize. Hands-on themes include everyday science, where simple concepts come to life through cornhole throwing experiments, RFID footwear technology, and approachable sports nutrition activities. Sport science invites participants to try real equipment such as golf simulators, HitTrax swings, and the rock wall to see physics, engineering, and motion at work. Body science and performance highlights how the body moves and recovers through demonstrations of recovery tools, turf combine speed challenges, and bike mechanics experiences. Science stations are supported by partners including StretchLab Powell, KidStrong Polaris, Grace Haven Ohio, Makerspace Central, and more. The open format encourages curiosity, experimentation, and play, showing how science is woven into the world of sport.

Columbus Humane hosts a signature after hours shelter celebration designed for people who care deeply about animals and the community. This adult-focused evening offers drinks and vegetarian light fare along with immersive, behind the scenes access to the work that supports animals in need in Columbus. Through interactive activities with each department, attendees can see how the organization delivers essential veterinary care, combats animal cruelty, serves pet families, provides behavior support, and connects pets with loving homes. Guests can meet adoptable animals, talk with the people behind the mission, and enjoy special experiences with local artists who shine a light on pet-focused creativity. More than a social gathering, it is a chance to learn, connect, and contribute to meaningful outcomes for animals across Central Ohio. Volunteers help give shelter dogs a chance to stretch their legs and enjoy one-on-one attention at the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center. This public, outdoor volunteer opportunity welcomes newcomers and drop-ins, and no pre-registration is required. Shelter staff match participants with appropriate dogs and provide supplies such as waste bags, treats, and harness leads, so personal leashes and collars should be left at home. Upon arrival, head to the large fenced walking yard behind the building, enter through the gate, and check in at the registration table. Because activities take place outside, plans depend on the weather. Updates will be shared on the event page, and RSVP is available for reminders. Comfortable, sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. Photos of adoptable dogs are encouraged, and social posts can include the hashtag #FCDSAdoptables. The shelter typically cares for between 200 and 300 dogs, and each benefits from fresh air and time out of the kennel. The Moment brings a blend of alt funk, pop, and rock. Founders Chris DeBoard, a singer and drummer, and guitarist Rob Maupin met while playing in a cover band in 2015, then spent the following years co-writing and building a growing songbook. They recorded with Eric Jones at Steezo Sound, who serves as a senior engineer at Woodland's Tavern, and brought in additional session players during the process. Through their musician community, they connected with rhythm guitarist Bryan Bair, who officially joined, and with Shawn Short, introduced by musician Todd Clemmer after playing together at Woodland's. Their story reflects long standing collaborations and roots in the Columbus scene. Tickets are $15 and all ages are welcome.
