    The Vampire Circus

The Civic Theatre, 190 S Main St, Akron · verified Oct 12
    See details

A moody, playful and avant-garde blend of cabaret-style circus and theatrical storytelling, The Vampire Circus conjures a world that recalls both Tim Burton and Cirque du Soleil. International artists showcase a range of disciplines, from theater, dance and gymnastics to contortion, juggling and high-flying acrobatics. Physical feats that test human limits pair with music and illusions to swing the crowd between chills and laughter, wonder and delight, with comical crowd interactions and a fan-favorite graveyard clown adding to the spectacle. This 90-minute experience sinks into a vampire underworld inspired by the mystique of old traveling carnivals and shaped by the vision of Francisco Santos, a veteran performer from Cirque du Soleil. Set in 19th-century Bohemia, the story follows Count Dracula as he hides a plan for conquest behind a roaming circus, seeking to swell an army of the undead. The production breaks the fourth wall and pulls audiences into the action unfolding around them and at times seemingly within them. When night arrives, the vampire realm stirs and the unexpected awaits.
