Historic Skyliner LodgeHistory Pub - Women Lawyers in Oregon: 140 Years of Success, Synergy, and Surprises
Presented by McMenamins and the Deschutes Historical Museum, this History Pub program explores 140 years of women in Oregon’s legal community. The talk traces the journey from the late 19th century to today, featuring pioneers who built careers through paths that were uncommon for their time. It examines the rise of women’s professional networks and the momentum created through statewide collaboration, leading to greater visibility and notable achievements, including service on the bench. The discussion also looks at persistent challenges and the work underway to advance lasting progress for women and others from underrepresented groups in the profession. Trudy Allen, a retired attorney and historian for the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation since 1999, shares insights from decades of research. Admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 1982, she connected with several early women lawyers and set out to preserve their stories. Since the mid 1980s she has written for legal publications, documenting trends in admissions to practice and judicial service.

Hayden Homes AmphitheaterGarret T. Willie
Garret T. Willie channels deep blues and rock with grit, heart, and soul. His second album, Bill’s Café, takes its name from his grandfather’s place in Alert Bay, British Columbia, and was made in Nashville with Grammy winner Tom Hambridge. Written across late nights, long drives, and studio sessions, the record leans into stories of love, loss, addiction, and ambition with a powerful voice and unadorned, virtuosic guitar work that brings timeless traditions forward. At 25, he has already built a reputation on stage for intensity and showmanship. He is known to break into behind-the-head solos or step into the crowd, turning performances into surges of high voltage energy. His debut, Same Pain, co-written with Parker Bossley, earned praise around the world, including spins on BBC Radio 2, Top 20 positions in the UK and the US, two nominations at the Western Canadian Music Awards, and a Best New Touring Artist nod at the Canadian Live Music Industry Awards. He has also served as an opener for Kenny Wayne Shepherd, John Fogerty, Kingfish, and Joe Bonamassa.

StirrUp PurposeKids Studio! Sound & Color: Jazz-Inspired Mixed Media Camp
A creative camp invites young artists ages 7 to 12 to explore how sound and feeling become visual art. Inspired by jazz and the Abstract Expressionist movement, participants listen to instrumental music, capture rhythm and movement with quick gesture drawings, and study how color can convey emotion and how abstract shapes and marks express ideas. Using these explorations as a springboard, they build mixed media collages that translate music into layered compositions with drawing materials, paint, textured papers, and other elements. Along the way, they practice mixing materials and techniques, experiment with abstraction, and talk about how their artistic choices connect to the sounds and emotions that sparked them. Featured figures for inspiration include Romare Bearden, Miles Davis, Robert Thompson, Alma Woodsey Thomas, and Lee Krasner. All materials are provided. Families registering two or more participants can receive 10 percent off with code JAZZ10. Please send a snack and clothes that can get a little messy. Enrollment is limited to 10 students per session. Led by Bella Brown, an Art Education undergraduate at Virginia Commonwealth University whose music-rich background and interest in both natural and social environments inform a welcoming, exploratory approach. Hayden Homes AmphitheaterHorse Feathers & Guests
Horse Feathers marks twenty years of Words Are Dead with an evening that brings the album’s origins back into focus. Kill Rock Stars is preparing a fully remastered edition on a special colored vinyl, packaged with a reproduction of the original six track demo CD and a foil stamped LP jacket. The music at the heart of this gathering looks to the debut for its compass, offering a chance to hear where it began while acknowledging how far it has traveled. The current ensemble features Justin Ringle on guitar, vocals, and banjo, Nathan Crockett on violin and saw, Halli Anderson of River Whyless on violin and vocals, Kati Claborn of Blind Pilot on banjo, vocals, and clarinet, and Luke Ydstie, also of Blind Pilot, on bass, cello, and vocals. With guests, they shape focused dynamics and nuanced arrangements that capture the debut’s intimacy without locking it in place. Across albums like House With No Home, Thistled Spring, Cynic’s New Year, and Appreciation, the group widened its sound while keeping the quiet center of Justin Ringle’s songwriting, which prizes clarity of feeling over flash. This occasion reflects that continuity. It feels more like a continuation than a retrospective, a reminder that some albums seem timeless and wait for the right moment to resonate anew.
