Duelists in Florence can test their builds at a weekly Yu-Gi-Oh! event hosted at Heroes Hideout. Entry is $5, and each participant receives two OTS Packs. For every eight players in attendance, a booster box is added to the prize pool. Prizes scale with turnout: with 16 or fewer players, awards go to the top four at 40% for first, 30% for second, and 15% for third and fourth. With 17 or more players, prizes extend to the top eight at 30% for first, 20% for second, 15% for third and fourth, and 5% for places five through eight. Bring a refined deck, practice your plays, and enjoy friendly competition with the local Yu-Gi-Oh! community at Heroes Hideout.

Red Cross Blood Drive

A community blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross will take place in the Lawson-Rain Chapel. The Red Cross brings more than 135 years of humanitarian service and over 75 years of providing blood to those in need. Every donated pint can assist up to three people, reaching even more families through the care it enables. Donors play an essential part in treatment for accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and individuals receiving care for leukemia, cancer, or sickle cell disease. Community members are welcome to donate or volunteer.

Sankofa Day: Salsa Styling and Shines

Step into a focused pop-up workshop that dives into salsa styling and shines, created for dancers who are ready to go beyond the basics. The session is $35 per person and centers on building flavor, confidence, and personal expression on the dance floor. In salsa, shines are solo footwork sections performed when partners separate. They draw from Afro-Caribbean movement and are influenced by jazz, mambo, and the social dance scenes of New York and Cuba, rising to prominence during the mambo and salsa surge of the 1960s and 70s. These moments allow dancers to showcase rhythm, creativity, and individuality while staying rooted in the music. Styling evolved alongside this practice, adding arm lines, body action, spins, texture, and musical interpretation so movement communicates emotion and presence rather than just patterns. The workshop emphasizes musicality and rhythm interpretation, nuanced body movement with Afro-Latin influence, arm styling, posture, performance quality, confidence and flow, and smooth transitions between partnerwork and solo work. This is not a beginner session. Participants should already be comfortable with salsa timing, basic turns, cross-body leads, and foundational partnerwork concepts. Expect an energetic, technique-forward experience that helps translate personal voice into precise, confident, and authentic dancing.

Hosted by the Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce, this community celebration spotlights the spirit of independence with an evening of music and entertainment, delicious fare from food trucks and local vendors, and activities for all ages. Flagpole Dedication

A ceremony presented by the Friends of the Darlington Library and the Darlington County Library System marks the 250th anniversary of the United States by unveiling and dedicating a new flagpole on the grounds of the Darlington Branch Library. As part of Freedom Fest, the program features the dedication and the raising of the national and state colors. The occasion recognizes the many individuals whose contributions have strengthened Darlington County and the nation.

Aroha Afro Latin Dance hosts a welcoming social at Lula’s Southside location focused on dancing and connection. Everyone is invited, including individuals, couples, families, and friends, and the night starts with a brief introductory lesson to cover the basics. Music will span Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Konpa, Reggae, Soul Line Dance, and Merengue. Entry is cashless with a $10 cover, or $5 for college students, payable online or through CashApp ($ArohaDance) or Venmo (@Adalia-ellis). 2026 SCR Solo 2 - SEDIV Solo Series

South Carolina Region’s Autocross Championship returns to Darlington Raceway for round two, bringing a full day of competition in Darlington, South Carolina. This stop is part of the SEDIV Solo Series, a season-long program that connects select events across Southeast member regions where drivers earn points throughout the year. The day follows a familiar autocross rhythm with on-site registration and tech inspection, time to walk the course including a dedicated novice walk, a drivers meeting, then cars on course, with trophies awarded after all runs are complete. For 2026, helmets must meet Snell 2010 or newer standards. Loaner helmets are available from SCR on a first come, first served basis and must be cleaned before and after use. The event is open to all, and competitors seeking SEDIV Solo Series points can count this round toward the championship.

Created through a global collaboration among the Adler, Sesame Workshop, the Beijing Planetarium, and Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure is a free planetarium program at Dooley Planetarium designed for families with little ones. Aimed at children under age five, it gently introduces the Sun, Moon, and stars in an engaging, age-appropriate way. Doors open before the presentation so visitors can arrive early and explore the planetarium. Seating is first come, first served, and there is no late seating once the doors close, since opening them would brighten the theater and disrupt the experience.

At Dooley Planetarium, Perfect Little Planet presents the solar system as a dream vacation, told through the viewpoint of a family from another star in search of the ideal getaway. Skim above Pluto, take in the towering ice cliffs of Miranda, sail through Saturn’s rings, feel the power of Jupiter’s lightning storms, and imagine walking on the surface of Mars. This guided journey is suitable for all ages. Admission is free and seating is allocated in order of arrival. Arriving early allows time to explore the planetarium before the presentation. Civil War: Battle On The Pee Dee River SC #9

Compete on the Pee Dee River in a two-fish weigh-in tournament, with registration, livewell checks, and the final weigh-in taking place at Cashua Ferry Landing. Only rod and reel gear is permitted, and every catch must arrive alive and be released back into the river after weigh-in. Trailering is allowed, and participants may launch from designated public ramps including Cashua Ferry Landing, the Society Hill ramp, Blue’s Landing, and Cheraw Landing, provided all fishing remains within South Carolina waters. The entry fee is $120, and there is an optional $50 side pot for the highest total weight. All competitors must return to the weigh-in location for check-in.

The Florence Flamingos and the South Carolina BBQ Association team up for the second annual Brews & Que at Carolina Bank Field, presented by Sam Carbis Solutions. This two-day celebration features a barbecue cook-off with recipes from local cooks, restaurants, and competition teams from across the state, along with live entertainment from the stage, a variety of vendors, and activities suitable for all ages. Tasting highlights include wings and pork butt samples offered over the course of the weekend. Awards are at stake for competitors in the cook-off, and the festivities will proceed regardless of weather.

Miles for Moore 5K and Fun Run

Hosted by the JW Moore APT, this 5K and Fun Run raises funds to support improvements to the learning environment and the broader school community, benefiting students, staff, parents, and guardians. Registration is required through the SimplyTiming website. The 5K takes place first, followed by the Fun Run. Early registration is $35, late registration is $40, and day-of registration is $45. Fun Run registration is free, but registration is still required, and it does not include a shirt. Event shirts are guaranteed for early registrants, with remaining quantities available on a first come, first served basis after the early period. Packet pickup is available at Moore Middle School ahead of the event and on race morning.

Now in its 39th year, the Pee Dee Doll Club hosts a doll and toy show and sale at SIMT - Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing & Technology. Browse a variety of doll and toy vendors, request verbal appraisals from Robin Wyatt and Bradley Justice for $5 per item, and participate in both a raffle and a silent auction.
