The Art of Movement: Isadora Duncan Dance Program with Leslie Schleiger
A program serving Hartsville adults, children, and the wider community focuses on natural, expressive movement in the spirit of Isadora Duncan. It offers a gentle creative movement class for adults, a lively session for children ages 7 to 9, and an inclusive community circle open to all ages and abilities. The adult class builds strength through flowing, natural movement and simple creative sequences set to classical music, helping participants feel energized and connected to their bodies and community. No prior experience is required. Comfortable clothing is recommended, participants move barefoot, and bringing a water bottle is encouraged. The children’s class develops strength, coordination, and musicality with joyful floor work, skips, runs, and leaps to classical music. Themes from Greek myths and nature inspire imagination and confident expression. No experience is necessary. Comfortable attire is suggested, bare feet are requested, tutus are optional, and a water bottle is helpful. The community movement circle is an adaptive, supportive space where people of all ages and abilities, including those who are differently abled, share simple, joyful movement together. Scarves, music, and imagery from nature guide exploration of strength, expression, and connection at each person’s pace. Comfortable clothing and a water bottle are recommended. The program is led by Leslie Schleiger, who brings more than 35 years of dance experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Dance and Theater from Coker University. She is certified in Isadora Duncan Dance Studies through the Isadora Duncan International Institute in New York, has performed nationally and internationally, and teaches with a focus on mindfulness, self awareness, and creativity.
MTG Draft Night
Players draft Magic: The Gathering packs, with the group choosing which set to open, from the newest release to an older option. The experience changes from one event to the next based on that choice. Entry is covered by purchasing four booster packs, averaging about $25 to $30.

Compete on the Pee Dee River in a two-fish weigh-in tournament, with registration, livewell checks, and the final weigh-in taking place at Cashua Ferry Landing. Only rod and reel gear is permitted, and every catch must arrive alive and be released back into the river after weigh-in. Trailering is allowed, and participants may launch from designated public ramps including Cashua Ferry Landing, the Society Hill ramp, Blue’s Landing, and Cheraw Landing, provided all fishing remains within South Carolina waters. The entry fee is $120, and there is an optional $50 side pot for the highest total weight. All competitors must return to the weigh-in location for check-in.

Historian and museum director Brian Gandy presents a talk in Kalmia Gardens’ adult education series, Cultivating Knowledge: A Lecture Series, at the Joslin Education Center. His lecture, Thomas Hart, The Land, Money, and the Legacy, explores the move from Mechanicsville to Hartsville, the ensuing rise and fall, and the land connected to Black Creek Plantation. Pre-registration is required and tickets are $5. A lifelong resident of Darlington County, Gandy has held leadership roles with the Darlington County Historical Society and has spent nearly two decades with the Darlington County Historical Commission and Museum. He is a frequent speaker on local history and genealogy across the county, the state, and the broader Southeast, and is known for an extensive collection of historical photographs documenting the people and places of Darlington County. Under his leadership, the Historical Commission expanded its campus by 18,000 square feet and significantly increased its artifact and archival holdings. He also helped establish the Darlington County Museum, a unified institution representing communities throughout Darlington County and parts of the Pee Dee region, which has welcomed over 14,000 visitors. He describes his focus as promoting and preserving local heritage while building on the collecting foundation laid by Horace Rudisill and the organizing work of his mother, Doris Gandy.
