Charleston Oyster Planter Workshop

A second session has been added due to popular demand. This hands-on, Lowcountry-inspired workshop benefits the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network and guides participants in creating a tabby-style oyster shell planter rooted in Charleston history. Tabby is a traditional coastal building material dating to the 1700s, made from lime, sand, water, and crushed oyster shells, and it lends a distinctive texture seen on historic homes, garden walls, and walkways across the region. In a modern twist, the project uses concrete mixed with sand and real oyster shells to achieve that classic coastal look. Attendees will craft a planter suited for a porch, garden, or home, with all materials provided and no prior experience required. The finished piece measures about 8 inches tall by 8.5 inches wide. The workshop takes place outdoors beneath backyard lights at Luxe Bar & Bistro in Summerville. The cost is $75 per person. Bringing a friend can make the process easier and even more enjoyable. Everyone leaves with a handcrafted planter that reflects the charm and character of the Lowcountry.

TNR Community Cat Clinic at Dorchester Paws

Dorchester Paws hosts a Trap-Neuter-Return clinic for community cats on a first come, first served basis. Check-in is required and late arrivals are not accepted, and visitors are asked not to block the gate. The clinic can accommodate up to 30 cats, with a limit of two cats per vehicle. Only cats from Dorchester County are eligible, and each cat must arrive in a humane trap or it will not be accepted. The cost is $30 per cat and includes vaccines, ear tip, microchip, and spay or neuter surgery. Cats return home the same day, and the only documentation provided will be the microchip information. After recovery, cats must be released back to the exact location where they were found the following day, and an instruction sheet will be provided. Personal pets are not eligible for this clinic, as services are reserved for unowned cats; those needing help with owned animals should use the Community Support resources. Traps are available to rent from the Pet Support Department for $30 for seven days, refunded upon return. Questions can be directed to petsupport@dorchesterpaws.org. Dorchester Paws and Animal Control do not trap or pick up cats.
