VA Burial Benefits Informational Event

An informational briefing at Saltgrass Steak House highlights VA burial benefits. Veterans and their spouses can learn what is available at national or state veterans cemeteries and the steps to receive all eligible benefits. Lunch will be provided at no cost. Attendees may also receive a complimentary Veterans Planning Guide that includes the forms needed to help secure burial benefits for honorably discharged veterans. Seating is limited.

Elementary Book Club- The Unicorn Rescue Society

A monthly book club for children ages 6 to 8 invites young readers to discuss the selected book and take part in a brief activity. The Conroe chapter of Houston LEAD hosts a weekly business networking and referral meeting for growth-minded professionals. Alongside a diagnosis and a pair of dubiously acquired handcuffs, their adult children grapple with how to support their parents while also setting limits. The Midnight Library Discussion

A small choice can redirect a life. This free, guided conversation focuses on The Midnight Library and its exploration of regret, second chances, and the quiet courage it takes to keep going. In a warm and supportive setting, participants reflect on the pull of what if, the connection between regret, identity, and purpose, and how to make peace with the life they are living. The discussion is facilitated by Happy Camper Counselor, Sherrie, and is intended to be safe, compassionate, and judgment free. Finishing the book is not required, and those who are simply curious are welcome. Content note: the book includes themes of depression, suicidal thoughts, and emotional distress, so attendees are encouraged to care for themselves and participate only if it feels supportive. Learn to Skate Lessons

Build your skating skills at Rainbow Roller Rink in Conroe with lessons open to all ages, from kids to adults. Sessions are organized by experience level, with a beginner group for newcomers and an advanced group for more practiced skaters. If it is your first visit, start in the beginner session, and coaches will move skaters to the advanced group when skills are ready. Lessons are $10 and include skates. City of Conroe KidzFest

A free, single-day festival that sparks imagination and encourages exploration, featuring a variety of interactive villages for kids. Read to the Dogs

Children build confidence and fluency by reading aloud to specially trained therapy dogs at the R.F. Meador Branch Library. Offered in partnership with Pets with a Mission, this program rewards readers who share ten books with a dog with a free book. It is designed for kids who can read independently or with a little help. Children who are not yet reading can still enjoy books in the library with their caregivers. Registration is required and opens one week before the program. Please register only the child who will be reading, not parents or non-readers. When arriving, check in at the Children’s Desk to join the line. Reading sessions are one-on-one with a dog and last up to ten minutes. Readers may cover as many books as they like, then rejoin the line for another ten-minute turn if desired. Children waiting for their first turn are moved to the front of the line. Books from the library or from home are both welcome. To keep the environment calm for both kids and dogs, parents and siblings of readers are asked to wait in the designated area or outside the room. Those who create distractions may be asked to leave. Conroe-Community Breast Ultrasound Screening

Access a convenient breast ultrasound screening in the event meeting room at Positively Unfiltered Body Salon. Provided by HerScan, this community service helps you add ultrasound to your regular breast health plan. Ultrasound can substantially improve detection, raising the chance of finding breast cancer from about 48 percent to as high as 97 percent, especially for those with dense breast tissue. It can also identify cancers that might not appear on a mammogram or be found during a physical exam. The visit is designed to be fast and comfortable. There is no radiation, it is safe for individuals with implants, and every exam is interpreted by a radiologist. No prescription is required. The screening includes imaging of both breasts and the underarm area, plus the radiologist’s reading, for $295, a service value that can be as high as $1,100. Appointments are available through HerScan at community health events like this one.

Clays for Kids - Clay Shoot Tournament

This friendly, challenging clay shooting tournament honors Aidan McSpadden and raises support for B.I.G. Love Cancer Care. Community members are welcome to support The American Legion Post and Unit 618 as flags are placed along the I-45 feeder roads at the 1097 bridge in Willis. The group will begin at the H-E-B gas station, complete the H-E-B side first, then move to the Kroger side. More volunteers mean a quicker finish, and every bit of help is appreciated. In recognition of Memorial Day, the flags will remain on display for one month.

Trash and debris containment will be in place during the event, a cleanup crew will head out early the next morning, and Marine Law Enforcement will be involved to help keep things safe. Boaters are encouraged to plan a sober captain ahead of time. A helpful launch option is Scott’s Ridge Public Boat Ramp, which is close to the cove and can reduce long navigation at night. Before launching, check that navigation and anchor lights work, the horn functions, there are enough life vests for everyone on board, and a throwable is within reach. At Montgomery County Fairgrounds, the seventh annual Crawfish Critic Cook-Off pairs with the SCCA SUPERBOIL Crawfish World Championship for a spirited celebration of Cajun flavors, live music, and friendly competition. Meador Teen: Book Club

This month, the teen book club features City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, a national bestseller with over four million copies sold. Set in a city built as a final refuge for humanity, the story follows Lina and Doon as the great lamps that keep their world bright begin to fail. After uncovering a fragment of an old instruction, they race to piece together its meaning, hoping to protect their city and persuade others to take a risky path forward. If they cannot solve the puzzle in time, the lights will go out and darkness will take over. Jurassic Quest - Conroe, TX

Jurassic Quest brings its massive traveling dinosaur experience to Conroe at the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center. Explore towering, true-to-scale dinosaurs, take a ride on both walking and stationary dinos, and get an up-close look at a full-size T. rex skull alongside notable fossils such as authentic T. rex teeth and a Triceratops horn. The exhibit showcases standouts like a Spinosaurus stretching roughly 60 feet, an approximately 80-foot Apatosaurus, and a full-scale T. rex. Interactive highlights include a baby dinosaur show and a raptor training presentation, plus chances to meet baby dinos like Tyson the T. rex, Cammie the Camarasaurus, and Trixie the Triceratops with their trainers. VFW4709 and American Legion 411 are teaming up for a community celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, designed to capture the feel of small town holiday fun for all ages. Plans include live music from Side Hustle, free hot dogs and soft drinks provided by the Conroe Knights of Columbus, a visit from the Conroe Fire Department with a fire truck and a cooling tent, a tomahawk throw for kids with a hoverboard grand prize, a cornhole tournament for adults, a silent auction with door prizes, Fry Daddy’s food truck, the K-star remote prize truck, and more. Details are still being finalized, and organizers are welcoming donations or prize items to support the silent auction and overall festivities.
