Harlingen Public LibraryWorld Birding Center Birding Tour
This two-hour guided birding tour welcomes all ages and experience levels and aims to find as many species as possible, with special attention to the 30 birds known as Valley Specialties. More than 365 species have been documented in the park, many unique to the Rio Grande Valley, making it a meaningful outing for beginners and long-time birders alike. Highlights include time on the well-known birding deck overlooking the wetlands, where up to 115 species have been tallied in a single day, and a visit to the Tropical Area, home to Green Jays, Great Kiskadees, and Clay-colored Thrushes. The area has also attracted rarities such as Elegant Trogon, Rose-throated Becard, White-throated Thrush, and Crimson-collared Grosbeak. If the weather is very warm and humid, and if group size and conditions allow, the tour may travel by quiet electric tram throughout the park. The tour is included with park admission, which is $5 for adults and free for children. Family friendly and open to all skill levels. No pets. Meet on the deck just outside the Visitor Center Park Store. Complimentary loaner binoculars are available.
