World Birding Center Birding Tour

This two-hour guided birding tour welcomes all ages and experience levels and aims to find as many species as possible, with special attention to the 30 birds known as Valley Specialties. More than 365 species have been documented in the park, many unique to the Rio Grande Valley, making it a meaningful outing for beginners and long-time birders alike. Highlights include time on the well-known birding deck overlooking the wetlands, where up to 115 species have been tallied in a single day, and a visit to the Tropical Area, home to Green Jays, Great Kiskadees, and Clay-colored Thrushes. The area has also attracted rarities such as Elegant Trogon, Rose-throated Becard, White-throated Thrush, and Crimson-collared Grosbeak. If the weather is very warm and humid, and if group size and conditions allow, the tour may travel by quiet electric tram throughout the park. The tour is included with park admission, which is $5 for adults and free for children. Family friendly and open to all skill levels. No pets. Meet on the deck just outside the Visitor Center Park Store. Complimentary loaner binoculars are available.

Learning to Breathe (Teens 12+)

Learning to Breathe is a weekly class for teens 12 and older, held in the Teen Room. This six week series takes place on Thursdays, with sessions led by Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas.

Butterfly/Dragonfly Tour

A ranger leads an exploration of the park to spot butterflies and dragonflies, welcoming participants of all ages and experience levels, whether local or visiting from far away. The Valley hosts more than 300 species of butterflies and about 100 species of dragonflies, including some seen in the United States only in South Texas. Bring a camera or binoculars if you wish, or borrow binoculars on site. If the weather is too hot, a tram helps the group move around. The group meets on the deck outside the Park Store. This program has been offered here for nineteen years. Included with park entry, which is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.

One Piece Card Game Store Tournament Event - Saturdays

The instructor completed advanced training through Ulan Nutritional Systems in Nutrition Response Testing and is a Certified Reflexologist, having finished a 200-hour program at the International Institute of Reflexology in 2013. Their approach integrates these modalities to provide holistic options informed by a long-standing emphasis on nutrition and environmental health. The Brownsville Raid Alley-Cat Race

Back in action to honor The Brownsville Raid, also known as the Brownsville Affair of 1906, this alley cat style race sends participants across town to visit historic sites, collect an artifact as evidence, and return to Texas Branding Iron Burgers Bikes & Beer for a shot at the podium and a finisher's medal. Race solo or pair up as a team of two. Choose the quickest path on road, gravel, or trail, plan your route between locations, and bring back what you have gathered to compete. The commemoration recalls the 1906 incident in Brownsville, when African American soldiers of the 25th Infantry Regiment were falsely accused, marking one of the largest injustices in U.S. military history. At The Lucky Barrel Bar & Grill, a community fundraiser brings together cars, trucks, and motorcycles for a judged showcase in support of the Big Heroes Organization. Hosted by Rebecca Car Queen, the event features competitive judging with awards that include King of Show honors for the top three entries, Best of Show recognition for fifteen standouts, a prize for the most engaged crew or club, and a people’s choice award. Awards and categories may be adjusted at the host’s discretion, and there are no fixed classes. Facilitators trained by the Alzheimer’s Association guide a welcoming support group at Valley Regional Medical Center for people living with dementia and the care partners who support them. Participants can connect with others who understand their experiences, exchange practical ideas for handling everyday challenges, talk through concerns and coping strategies, share feelings and needs, and learn about community resources that can help. RGV Out of the Darkness Walk

At Vestal Park, the RGV Out of the Darkness Walk focuses on suicide prevention and supports programs that make a difference. Funds from this walk fuel research, advocacy initiatives, and education in schools, workplaces, and communities throughout Texas. In the United States, suicide ranks 11th among causes of death, and building understanding is an essential step toward prevention. Registration is free and simple, and participation helps extend hope to people affected by suicide.

Lunadas del Valle: September at Búho

Lunadas del Valle offers an evening of poetry, storytelling, music, and art at Búho Bookstore in downtown Brownsville. The program is curated by Michael Jones, who is also the featured artist, with readings that include Juan M. Perez. Hosting the night is emcee Daniel García Ordaz, also known as The Poet Mariachi, and music will be announced. Featured readers are scheduled for 7 to 12 minutes each. As time allows, an open mic will follow with up to 5 minutes per participant. This free gathering is presented by the Seven To Eight Poetry Project. Inspired by the long-standing Mexican tradition of lunadas held under a full moon, this edition adapts to Rio Grande Valley heat by taking place indoors and, when suitable, outdoors. Guests are encouraged to consider donating new or gently used books to Brownsville’s only independent bookstore, though donations are optional.
