World Birding Center Birding Tour

This two-hour birding tour welcomes all ages and experience levels. Participants search the park for as many species as possible, with a focus on about 30 Valley Specialties. More than 365 species have been recorded here, including many seen only in the Rio Grande Valley, so the outing suits both newcomers and seasoned birders. The route often features the renowned birding deck overlooking wetlands, a vantage point with a single-day record of 115 species, as well as the Tropical Area, where Green Jays, Great Kiskadees, and Clay-colored Thrushes are regulars and rarities like Elegant Trogon, Rose-throated Becard, White-throated Thrush, and Crimson-collared Grosbeak have appeared. If conditions are very warm and humid, and group size and weather allow, a quiet electric tram may be used to tour the park. Participation is included with park admission, which is $5 for adults and free for children. Family-friendly and open to all skill levels. No pets. Meet on the deck just outside the Visitor Center Park Store. Free loaner binoculars are available.

Light the World: A Solstice Yoga Celebration

Honor the light of the season through a warm, community-focused yoga practice that recognizes the summer solstice and the International Day of Yoga. The class centers on a mindful sequence of 108 Surya Namaskar at an easygoing pace with optional pauses, accessible variations, breath awareness, and moments for reflection. Participants may complete all 108 or move at a personal rhythm, with attention on intention, connection, and the transformative energy of the solstice. The tradition of 108 sun salutations symbolizes renewal, release, gratitude, and fresh beginnings, offering a meaningful way to welcome the new season. Final relaxation includes Reiki and soothing sound bowls. After practice, there is space to connect with others over mimosas and hors d'oeuvres. All proceeds support charity. Open to all levels. Arts & Prayers offers a calm, hands-on workshop that blends creative expression with faith. Participants will craft a Bible bookmark from brocade ribbon and learn the techniques for making a knotted rosary with glass pearl beads while exploring the history and traditions of prayer in the Catholic faith. Each person receives materials for one bookmark and a rosary project, a copy of An Introduction to Prayer by Bishop Robert Barron, and refreshments including tea, coffee, fresh fruit, and croissants. The rosary component is more advanced and calls for patience, dexterity, and fine motor skills, so completion times may vary. The cost is $35 per person. Butterfly/Dragonfly Tour

A ranger-led tour welcomes all ages and experience levels to explore the park and search for butterflies and dragonflies, including species unique to South Texas and, in some cases, found in the United States only there. More than 300 butterflies and 100 dragonflies occur in the Valley, and a knowledgeable ranger will help point them out. If it is too hot, a tram will be available to get around the park. Cameras and binoculars are optional, and loaner binoculars can be provided. The tour meets on the deck outside the Park Store. It is free with park entry, which is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Butterfly tours have been held every Friday for the nineteen years Estero has been in existence, welcoming locals and visitors from around the world.

National Trails Day MTB Ride - Harlingen Arroyo Trails

This ride has been rescheduled after recent rains left the trails too muddy. The route explores the Harlingen Arroyo Trails at Arroyo Park MTB Trails, a connected network of primitive off-road paths that connect with a paved hike and bike trail. Expect a no-drop group ride of about 10 miles with separate groups organized by rider ability, covering flowy singletrack along with technical climbs and descents, plus paved sections for variety. The trails are built and maintained by the City of Harlingen Parks and Recreation Department and the Valley Off-Road Bicycling Association, an IMBA local chapter.

Players are assigned different team colors at each table before the battles begin. The top finisher at every table earns a winner prize. 100 Year Anniversary 1K / 5K Run

Celebrate the Rio Grande Council’s 100th year with a community run at Harlon Block Sports Complex. Participants can choose a 1 mile option for $20 or a 5K for $35. The 1 mile is untimed and provides a custom finisher medal to registered participants who cross the finish line wearing the current year event bib. The 5K is chip timed, includes a custom finisher medal for bibbed finishers, and offers age group awards based on chip time. A free event T-shirt is included with registrations completed before the published cutoff. Packet pickup will be offered prior to the event, with the location to be announced. The event will be held rain or shine. Refunds are not issued for participants who skip packet pickup or choose not to attend, and any packets left unclaimed at pickup are considered abandoned.
