Rodgers & Hammerstein's A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING

    Lubbock

Rodgers and Hammerstein's A Grand Night for Singing arrives in Lubbock with a bright, contemporary spin on classics from the famed songwriting team. Conceived by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and directed by Dr. José Holland-Garcia, the revue features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, musical arrangements by Fred Wells, and orchestrations by Michael Gibson and Jonathan Tunick. Beloved songs appear in inventive new forms, from "Shall We Dance?" reimagined as a playful comic duet and a love-struck twist on "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" to an Andrews Sisters style "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair," a swing-infused "Honeybun" in the spirit of the Modernaires, and a jazz-tinged "Kansas City." The production traces its roots to the 1994 Broadway season, where it drew enthusiastic praise and received two Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical. Presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
